Joshua 2

Ioſhua ſendeth mẽ to ſpie Ierichó, whome Rahab hideth. 11 She confeſſeth the God of Iſraél. 12 She requireth a ſigne for her deliuerance. 21 The ſpies returne to Ioſhua with comfortable tidings.
.THen Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun ſent out of a Shittím two men to ſpie ſecretly, ſaying, Go, viewe the land, and alſo Ierichó: and thei went, and * came into an "harlots houſe, named Raháb, and lodged there.
.Then reporte was made to the King of Ierichó, ſaying, Beholde, there came men hether to night, of the children of Iſraél, to ſpie out the countrey.
.And the King of Ierichó ſent vnto Raháb, ſaying, b Bring forthe the mẽ that are come to thee, and ware entred into thine houſe: for thei be come to ſearche out all the land.
.(But the woman had taken the two men and hid them) Therefore ſaid ſhe thus, There came men vnto me, but I wiſt not whence thei were.
.And whẽ thei ſhut the gate in the darcke, the men went out, whether the men went I wote not: followe ye after thẽ quickly, for ye ſhal ouertake them.
.(But ſhe had broght thẽ vp to the c roofe of the houſe, & hyd them with the ſtalkes of flaxe, which ſhe had ſpread abroade vpon the roofe)
.And certeine men purſued after them, the way to Iordén, vnto the fourdes, and aſſone as thei which purſued after them, were gone out, thei ſhut the gate.
.¶ And before thei were a ſlepe, ſhe came vp vnto them vpon the roofe,
.And ſaid vnto the men, I knowe that the Lord hathe giuen you the land, and that the d feare of you is fallen vpon vs, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint becauſe of you.
.For we haue heard, how the Lord * dried vp the water of the read Sea before you, when you came out of Egypt, and what you did vnto the two Kings of the Amorites, that were on the other ſide Iordén, vnto * Sihón and to Og, whome ye vtterly deſtroyed:
.And when we hearde it, our heartes "did faint, and there remained no more "courage in anie becauſe of you: for e the Lord your God, he is the God in heauen aboue, and in earth beneth.
.Now therefore, I pray you, ſweare vnto me by the Lord, that as I haue ſhewed you mercie, ye wil alſo ſhewe mercie vnto my fathers houſe, and giue me a true token,
.And that ye wil ſaue aliue my father and my mother, and my brethren, and my ſiſters, and all that thei haue: & that ye wil deliuer our " ſoules from death.
.And the men anſwered her, f Our life for you to dye, if ye vtter not this our buſines: and when the Lord hathe giuen vs the land, we wil deale mercifully and truely with thee.
.Then ſhe let them downe by a corde through the windowe : for her houſe was vpon the towne wall, and ſhe dwelt vpon the wall.
.And ſhe ſaid vnto them, Go you into the g mountaine, leſt the purſuers mete with you, & hyde your ſelues there thre daies, vntil the purſuers be returned : thé afterward may ye go your way.
.And the men ſaid vnto her, h We wil be blameles of this thine othe, which thou haſt made vs ſweare.
.Beholde, when we come into the land, thou ſhalt binde this corde of red threde in the windowe, whereby thou letteſt vs downe, and thou ſhalt bring thy father & thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy fathers houſholde home to thee.
.And whoſoeuer then doeth go out at the dores of thine houſe into the ſtreat, i his blood ſhal be vpon his head, and we wil be gylteles : but whoſoeuer ſhal be with thee in the houſe, his blood ſhalbe on our head, if anie hand touche him:
.And if thou vtter this our k matter, we wil be quit of thine othe, which thou haſt made vs ſweare.
.And ſhe anſwered, Accordĩg vnto your wordes ſo be it : then ſhe ſent them away, and they departed, and ſhe bounde the * red corde in the windowe.
.¶And they departed, and came into the mountaine, & there abode thre daies, vntil the purſuers were returned : & the purſuers ſoght them throughout all the way, but founde them not.
.So the two men returned, and deſcended from the mountaine, & paſſed ouer, and came to Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun, & tolde him all things that came vnto them.
.Alſo they ſaid vnto Ioſhúa, Surely the Lord hathe deliuered into our hands all the land: for euẽ all the inhabitants of the countrey faint becauſe of vs.
