Deuteronomy 8

2 God humbleth the Iſraelites to trie what they haue in their heart. 5 God chaſticeth them as his childrẽ 14 The heart oght not to be proude for Gods benefites 19 The forgetfulnes of Gods benefites cauſeth deſtruction.
1.Ye ſhal kepe all the commandements wc I commande thee this day, a for to do them: that ye may liue, & be multiplied, and go in, and poſſeſſe the land which the Lord ſware vnto your fathers.
2.And thou ſhalt remember all the way which ye Lord thy God led thee this fourty yere in the wildernes, for to humble thee and to b proue thee, to knowe what was in thine heart, whether thou woldeſt kepe his commandements or no.
3.Therefore he humbled thee, and made thee hungry, & fed thee with M A N which thou kneweſt not, nether did thy fathers knowe it, that he might teache thee that man liueth not by c bread onely, but by euerie worde that procedeth out of the mouth of the Lord, doeth a man liue.
4.Thy rayment waxed not olde vpon thee, nether did thy fote d ſwel theſe fourtie yeres.
5.Knowe therefore in thine heart, that as a man nourtereth his ſonne, ſo the Lord thy God nourtereth thee.
6.e Therefore ſhalt thou kepe the commandements of the Lord thy God, that thou maieſt walke in his wayes, and feare him.
7.For the Lord thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a lād in the which are riuers of water and fountaines, & " depthes that ſpring out of valeis and mountaines:
8.A land of wheat and barley, and of vineyardes, and figtrees, & pomgranates: a lād of oyle oliue and honey:
9.A lād wherein thou ſhalt eat bread without ſcarcetie, nether ſhalt thou lacke anie thing therein: a lād f whoſe stones are yrō, & out of whoſe mountains thou ſhalt digge braſſe.
10.And when thou haſt eaten and filled thy ſelf, thou ſhalt g bleſſe the Lord thy God for the good land, which he hath giuen thee.
11.Beware that thou forget not the Lord thy God, not keping his commandemēts, and his lawes, and his ordinances, which I commande thee this day:
12.Leſt when thou haſt eaten and filled thy ſelfe, & haſt buylt goodly houſes & dwelt therein,
13.And thy beaſtes, and thy ſhepe are increaſed, and thy ſiluer and golde is multiplied, & all that thou haſt is encreaſed,
14.Then thine heart h be lifted vp and thou forget the Lord thy God, which broght thee out of the land of Egypt, from the houſe of bondage,
15.Who was thy guide in the great and terrible wildernes (wherein were firy ſerpēts, and ſcorpions, and drought, where was no water, * who broght forthe water for thee, out of the rocke of flinte:
16.Who fed thee in ye wildernes with * MAN, which thy fathers knewe not, ) to humble thee, and to proue thee, that he might do thee good at thy latter end.
17.Beware leſt thou ſay in thine heart, My power, and the ſtrength of mine owne hād hathe prepared me this abundance.
18.But remember the Lord thy God: for it is he which i giueth thee power to get ſubſtance to eſtabliſh his couenāt which he ſware vnto thy fathers, as appeareth this day.
19.And if thou forget the Lord thy God, and walke after other gods, & ſerue them, and worſhip them, I " teſtifie vnto you this day that ye ſhal ſurely periſh.
20.As the naciós which the Lord deſtroyeth before you, ſo ye ſhal periſh, becauſe ye wolde not be obedient vnto the voyce of the Lord your God.
