Deuteronomy 29

2 The people are exhorted to obſerue the cōmandements. 10 The whole people from the beſt to the loweſt are cōprehēded under Gods couenāt 19 The puniſhmēt of him that flattereth him ſelfe in his wickednes. 24 The cauſe of Gods wrath againſt his people.
1.THefe are the a wordes of the couenant which the Lord cōmanded Moſés to make with the children of Iſraél in the lād of Moáb beſide the couenāt which he had made with them in b Horéb.
2.¶And Moſés called all Iſraél, & ſaid vnto them, Ye haue ſene all that the Lord did before your eies in the land of Egypt vnto Pharaóh and vnto all his ſeruants, & vnto all his land,
3.The c great tentacions which thine eies haue ſene, thoſe great miracles and wonders:
4.Yet the Lord hathe not d giuen you an heart to perceiue, and eies to ſe, and eares to heare, vnto this day.
5.And I haue led you fourtie yere in the wildernes: your clothes are not waxed olde vpon you, nether is thy ſhooe waxed olde vpon thy fote.
6.Ye haue eaten no e bread, nether dronke wine, nor ſtrong drinke, that ye might knowe, how that I am ye Lord your God.
7.After ye came vnto this place, and Sihón King of Heſhbon, and Óg King of Baſhán came out againſt vs vnto battel, and we ſlewe them,
8.And toke their land, and gaue it for an inheritance vnto the Reubenites, and to ye Gadites, & to the half tribe of Manaſſéh.
9.* Kepe therefore the wordes of this couenāt & do them, that ye may proſper in all that ye ſhal do.
10.Ye ſtand this day euerie one of you before the Lord your f God: your heades of your tribes, your Elders and your officers, euen all the men of Iſraél:
11.Your children, your wiues, & thy ſtranger that is in thy campe frō the hewer of thy wood, vnto the drawer of thy water,
12.That thou ſhuldeſt g paſſe into the couenant of the Lord thy God, and into his othe which the Lord thy God maketh with thee this day,
13.For to eſtabliſh thee this day a people vnto him ſelf, & that he may be vnto thee a God, as he hathe ſaid vnto thee, and as he hathe ſworne vnto thy fathers, Abrahám, Izhák, and Iaakób.
14.Nether make I this couenant, and this othe with you onely,
15.But aswel with him that ſtandeth here with vs this day before ye Lord our God, as with him h that is not here with vs this day.
16.For ye knowe, how we haue dwelt in the
17.And ye haue ſene their abominacions & their idoles (wood, and ſtone, ſiluer & golde) which were among them,
18.That there ſhulde not be amōg you mā nor woman, nor familie, nor tribe, which ſhulde turne his heart away this day from the Lord our God, to go & ſerue the gods of theſe naciōs, & that there ſhulde not be amōg you i anie roote that bringeth fourth gall and wormewood,
19.So that when he heareth the wordes of this curſe, he bleſſe him ſelfe in his heart, ſaying, I ſhal haue peace, althogh I walke according to the ſtubbernes of mine owne heart, thus adding k dronkennes to thirſt.
20.The Lord wil not be merciful vnto him, but then the wrath of the Lord and his ielouſie ſhal ſmoke againſt that man, and euerie curſe that is written in this boke, ſhal light vpon him, and the Lord ſhal put out his name from vnder heauen,
21.And the Lord ſhal ſeparate him vnto euil out of all the tribes of Iſraél, according vnto all the curſes of the couenant, that is written in the boke of this Lawe.
22.So that the l generacion to come, euen your children, that ſhal riſe vp after you, and the ſtranger that ſhal come from a far land, ſhal ſay, when they ſhal ſe the plagues of this land, and the diſeaſes thereof, wherewith the Lord ſhal ſmite it:
23.(For all that lād ſhal burne with brimſtone and ſalt: it ſhal not be ſowen, nor bring fourth, nor anie graſſe ſhal growe therein, like as in the ouerthrowing of * Sodom, & Gomoráh, Admáh, & Zeboím, which the Lord ouerthrewe in his wrath and in his angre)
24.Then ſhal all nacions ſay, * Wherefore hathe the Lord done thus vnto this land? how feareful is this great wrath?
25.And they ſhal anſwer, Becauſe they haue forſaken the couenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which he had made with them, when he broght them out of the lād of Egypt,
26.And went and ſerued other gods & worſhipped them: euen gods which they knewe not, & " which had giuen them nothing,
27.Therefore the wrath of the Lord waxed hote againſt this land, to bring vpon it euerie curſe that is written in this boke.
28.And the Lord hathe rooted them out of their land in angre, and in wrath, and in great indignacion, and hathe caſt them into another land, as appeareth this day.
29.The m ſecret things belong to the Lord our God, but ye things reueiled belong vnto vs, and to our children for euer, that we may do all the wordes of this Lawe.
