Fiue Kings of Midiān & Balaám are slaine 18 One-ly the maides are reserued aliue 27 The praye is equal-ly deuided 49 A present giuen of Israél.
1.ANd the Lord spake vnto Moſés, saying,
2.* Reuenge the children of Israél of the Midianites, & afterward shalt thou be gathered vnto thy people.
3.And Moſes spak: to the people, saying, a Harnes some of you vnto warre, and let them go againſt Midián, to execute the vengeance of the Lord againſt Midián.
4.A thouſad of euerie tribe through out all the tribes of Israél, shal ye send to the warre.
5.So there were taken out of the thouſands of Israél, twelue thouſand prepared vnto warre, of euerie tribe a thouſand.
6.And Moſés sent them to the warre, euen a thouſand of euerie tribe, and sent b them with Phinehas the sonne of Eleazár the Prieſt to the warre with the holy inſtrumēts: * that is, the trumpets to blowe were in his hand.
7.And they warred againſt Midián, as the Lord had commanded Moſés, & slue all the males.
8.They slue alſo yͤ Kings of Midián amõg them that were slaine. * Euí and Rékem, & Zur, & Hur & Réba fiue kīgs of Midián, an d thei slue Balaám c the ſonne of Beór with the ſworde:
9.But the children of Israél toke the womē of Midian priſoners, and their childr.n & ſpoyled all their cattel, & all their flockes, and all their goods.
10.And they burnt all their cities, wherein they dwelt, and all their " villages with fire.
11.And they toke all the ſpoyle & all the praye bothe of men & beaſtes.
12.And they broght the d captiues and that which they had tak.n, and the ſpoyle vnto Mosés and to Eleazár the Prieſt, and vnto the Congregacion of the children of Israél, into the cāpe in the plaine of Moab, which was by Iordén toward Ierichó.
13.¶Then Mosés and Eleazá. the Prieſt, & all the princes of the Congregacion went out of the campe to mete them.
14.And Mosés was angry with the captaines of the hoste, with the captaines ouer thouſands, & captaines ouer hundreds, which came from the warre and battel.
15.And Mosés ſaid vnto them, What? haue ye ſaued all the e women?
16.Beholde, * theſe cauſed the children of Iſraél through the counſel of Balaá, to commit a treſpas againſt the Lord, f as cōceining Peór, and there came a plague a-mong the Congregacion of the Lord.
17.Now therefore, * slay all the males a-mong the g children, & kil all the women that haue knowen man by carnal copula-tion.
18.But all the women children that haue not knowen carnal copulation, kepe aliue for your ſelues.
19.And ye ſhal remaine without the hoſte ſeuē dayes, all that haue killed any perſo-ne, * and all that haue touched anie dead, & purifie bothe your ſelues & your priſo-ners the third day and the ſeuenth.
20.Alſo ye ſhal purifie euerie garment and all that is made of skins & all worke of goates heere, & all things made of wood.
21.¶ And Eleazár the Prieſt ſaid vnto the men of warre, which went to the battel, This is the ordinance * of the lawe which the Lord commanded Moſés,
22.As for golde, and ſiluer, braſſe, yron, tynne, and lead:
23.Euen all that may abyde the fire, ye ſhal make it go through the fire, and it ſhalbe cleane: yet, it ſhalbe h purified with * the water of purificacion: and all that ſuffreth not the fire, ye ſhal cauſe to paſſe by the i water.
24.Ye ſhal waſh alſo your clothes the ſeuenth day, and ye ſhalbe cleane: and afterward ye ſhal come into the Hoſte.
25.¶ And the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
26.Take the ſumme of the praie that was taken, bothe of perſones and of cattel, thou and Eleazár the Prieſt, & the chief fathers of the Congregacion.
27.And deuide the praie || betwene the ſoldiers that went to the warre, and all the Congregacion.
28.And yͧ ſhalt take a tribute vnto the Lord of the k men of warre, which went out to battel: one perſone of fiue hundreth, bothe of the perſones, and of the beues, & of the aſſes, and of the ſhepe.
29.Ye ſhal take it of their halfe and giue it vnto Eleazár yͧ Prieſt, as an heaue offring of the Lord.
30.But of the halfe of the children of Iſraél thou ſhalt take l one, taken out of fiftie, bothe of the perſones, of the beues, of the aſſes, and of the ſhepe, euen of all the cattel: and thou ſhalt giue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord.
31.And Moſés and Eleazár the Prieſt did as the Lord had commanded Moſés.
32.And yͧ bootye, to wit, the reſt of the praie which the men of warre had ſpoiled, was ſix hundreth ſeuentie and fiue thouſand ſhepe,
33.And ſeuentie and two thouſand beues,
34.And thre ſcore and one thouſand aſſes,
35.And two and thirtie thouſand perſones, in all of women that had * lyen by no man.
36.And the halfe, to wit, the parte of them that went out to warre touching the nomber of ſhepe, was thre hundreth ſeuen and thirtie thouſand, and fiue hundreth.
37.And the m Lords tribute of the ſhepe was ſix hundreth and ſeuentie and fiue.
38.And the beues were ſix and thirtie thouſand, whereof the Lords tribute was ſeuentie and two.
39.And the aſſes were thirtie thouſand and fiue hundreth, whereof the Lords tribute was three ſcore and one:
40.And n of perſones ſixtene thouſand, whereof yͧ Lords tribute was two & thirtie perſones.
41.And Moſes gaue yͧ tribute of the Lords offring vnto Eleazár the Prieſt, as yͧ Lord had commanded Moſés.
42.And of the o halfe of the children of Iſraél, which Moſés deuided from the men of warre,
43.(For the halfe that perteined vnto the Congregacion) was thre hundreth thirtie and ſeuen thouſand ſhepe and fiue hundreth,
44.And ſix and thirtie thouſand beues,
45.And thirtie thouſand aſſes, and fiue hundreth,
46.And ſixtene thouſand perſones.
47.Moſés, I ſay, toke of the halfe that perteined vnto the p children of Iſraél, one taken out of fiftie, bothe of the perſones & of the cattel, and gaue them vnto the Leuites, which haue the charge of the Tabernacle of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moſés.
48.¶ Then the captaines which were ouer thouſands of the hoſte, the captaines ouer the thouſands, and the captaines ouer the hundreds came vnto Moſés:
49.And ſaid to Moſés, Thy ſeruants haue taken the ſumme of the men of warre which are vnder " our autoritie, and there lacketh not one man of vs.
50.¶ We haue therefore broght a preſent q vnto the Lord, what euerie man founde of iewels of golde, bracelets, and cheines, rings, eare rings, and ornaments of the legs, to make an atonement for our ſoules before the Lord.
51.And Moſés and Eleazár the Prieſt toke the golde of them, and all wroght iewels.
52.And all the golde of yͧ offring that thei offred vp to the Lord, (of the captaines ouer thouſands and hundreds) was ſixtene thouſand ſeuen hundreth & fiftie ſhekels,
53.(For the men of warre had ſpoiled, euerie man for him r ſelf)
54.And Moſés and Eleazár the Prieſt toke the golde of the captaines ouer the thouſands, and ouer the hundreds, and broght it into the Tabernacle of the Cõgregacion, for a s memorial of the children of Iſraél before the Lord.
