.Then the children of Gád, and the chil-
.The land of Ataróth, and Dibón, and Iazér, and Nimráh, and Heſhbon, and Elealéh, and Shebám, and Nebó, and Beón,
.Which countrey the Lord ſmote before the Congregacion of Iſraél, is a land mete for cattel, and thy ſeruants haue cattel:
.Wherefore, ſaid thei, If we haue founde grace in thy ſight, let this land be giuen vnto thy ſeruants for a poſſeſſion, & bring vs not ouer Iordén.
.¶ And Moſés ſaid vnto the children of Gad, and to the children of Reubén, Shal your brethren go to warre and ye tary here?
.Wherefore now " diſcourage ye ye heart of the children of Iſraél, to go ouer into the land, which the Lord hath giuen thẽ?
.Thus did your fathers when I ſent them from Kadéſh-barnéa to ſe the land.
.For * when they went vp euen vnto the " ryuer of Eſhcól, and ſawe the land: they diſcouraged the heart of the children of Iſraél, that thei wolde not go into the lād, which the Lord had giuen them.
.And the Lords wrath was kindled the ſame day, and he did ſweare, ſaying,
.* " None of the men that came out of Egypt * from twentie yere olde and aboue, ſhal ſe the land for the which I ſware vnto Abrahám, to Izhák, and to Iaakób, becauſe thei haue not " wholie folowed me:
.Except Caléb the ſonne of Iephunnéh the Keneſite, & Ioſhua the ſonne of Nun: for thei haue cõſtantly folowed the Lord.
.And the Lord was verie angry with Iſraél, and made them wander in the wildernes fortie yeres, vntil all the generacion that had done e euil in the ſight of the Lord were conſumed.
.And beholde, ye are riſen vp in your fathers ſteade as an encreaſe of ſinneful mẽ, ſtil to augment the fearce wrath of the Lord toward Iſraél.
.For if ye turne away frõ following him, he wil yet againe leaue the people in ye wildernes, and f ye ſhal deſtroye all this folke.
.And thei went nere to him and ſaid, We wil buylde ſhepe foldes here for õ ſhepe, and for our cattel, and cities for our children.
.But we our ſelues wil be ready armed to go before the children of Iſraél, vntil we haue broght them vnto their g place: but our children ſhal dwel in the defenced citiés, becauſe of the inhabitants of the land.
.We wil not returne vnto our houfes, vntil the children of Iſraél haue inherited, euerie man his inheritance.
.Nether wil we inherit with thé beyõde Iordén and on that ſide, becauſe our inheritance is fallen to vs on this ſide Iordén Eaſtward.
.* And Moſés ſaid vnto them, If ye wil do this thing, and go armed h before the Lord to warre:
.And wil go euerie one of you in harnes ouer Iordén before the Lord, vntil he hathe caſt out his i enemies from his ſight:
.And vntil the land be ſubdued before the Lord, then ye ſhal returne and be innocent toward the Lord, and toward Iſra-él: and this land ſhalbe your poſſeſſion k before the Lord.
.But if ye wil not do ſo, beholde, ye haue ſinned againſt the Lord, and be ſure, that your ſinne l wil finde you out.
.Builde you then cities for your children and foldes for your ſhepe, and do that ye haue ſpoken.
.Then the children of Gad & the children of Reubén ſpake vnto Moſés, ſayig, Thy ſeruants wil do as my lord commandeth:
.Our children, our wiues, our ſhepe, and all our cattel ſhal remaine there in the cities of Gileád,
.But * thy ſeruants wil go euerie one armed to warre before the Lord for to fight, as my lord ſayeth.
.So concerning them, Moſés m comman-ded Eleazár the Prieſt, & Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Iſraél:
.And Moſés ſaid vnto them, If the children of Gad, and the children of Reubén, wil go with you ouer Iordén, all armed to fight before the Lord, then when the land is ſubdued before you, ye ſhal giue thẽ the land of Gileád for a poſſeſſion:
.But if thei wil not go ouer with you armed, then thei ſhal haue their poſſeſſions among you in the land of Canáan.
.And the children of Gad, and the children of Reubén anſwered, ſaying, As the n Lord hathe ſaid vnto thy ſeruants, ſo wil we do.
.We wil go armed before the Lord into the land of Canáan: that the poſſeſſion of our inheritance may be to vs on this ſide Iordén.
.* So Moſés gaue vnto thé, euen to the childrẽ of Gad, & to the children of Reubén, & to half the tribe of Manaſſéh the ſonne of Ioſéph, ye kingdome of Sihón King of the o Amorites, and the kingdome of Og, King of Baſhán, the land with the cities thereof and coaſtes, euen the cities of the countrey round about.
