Numbers 25

The people committeth fornicacion with the daughters of Moab. 9 Phinehás killeth Zimri & Cozbi 11 God maketh his couenant with Phinehás. 17 God commandeth to kil the Midianites.
1.Now whiles Iſraél abode in Shittím, the people began to cõmit whoredome with the a daughters of Moáb:
2.Which called ye people vnto the ſacrifice of their gods, & the people ate, & bowed downe to their gods.
3.And Iſraél b coupled him ſelf vnto Báal Peór: wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled againſt Iſraél:
4.And the Lord ſaid vnto Moſés, * Take all the heades of the people, & hang them vp before the Lord " againſt the ſunne, that the indignacion of the Lords wrath may be turned from Iſraél.
5.Then Moſés ſaid vnto the Iudges of Iſraél, Euerie one ſlay his d men that were ioyned vnto Báal Peór.
6.¶ And beholde, one of the children of Iſraél came and broght vnto his brethren a Midianitiſh woman in the ſight of Moſés, and in the ſight of all the Congregacion of the children of Iſraél, e who wept be-fore the dore of the Tabernacle of the Congregacion.
7.* And when Phinehás the ſonne of Eleazár the ſonne of Aarón the Prieſt ſawe it, he roſe vp from the middes of the Congregacion, and toke a " ſpeare in his hand,
8.And followed the man of Iſraél into the tent, & thruſt them bothe through: to wit, the man of Iſraél, and the womã, through her " belly: ſo the plague ceaſed from the children of Iſraél.
9.* And there dyed in that plague, foure & twentie thouſand.
10.Then ye Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
11.* Phinehás ye ſonne of Eleazár, the ſonne of Aarón the Prieſt, hathe turned mine anger anger away from the children of Iſraél, while he f was zelous for my ſake among them: therforc I haue not conſumed the children of Iſraél in my ielouſie.
12.Wherefore ſaye to him, Beholde, * I giue vnto him my couenant of peace,
13.And he ſhal haue it, and his ſede after him, euen the couenant of the Prieſts office for euer, becauſe he was zelous for his God, and hathe made an g atonement for the children of Iſraél.
14.And the name of the Iſraelite thus ſlayne, which was killed with the Midianitiſh woman, was Zimrí the ſonne of Salú, prince * of the familie of the Simeonites.
15.And the name of the Midianitiſh womá, that was ſlaine, was Cozbí the daughter of Zur, who was head ouer the people of his fathers houſe in Midián.
16.¶Againe the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
17.* Vexe the Midianites, and ſmite them:
18.For they trouble you with their h wiles, wherewith they haue beguiled you as concerning Peór, & as concerning their ſiſter Cozbí the daughter of a prince of Midián, which was ſlaine in the day of the plague becauſe of Peór.
