Numbers 20

Miriám dyeth 2 The people murmure. 8 They haue water out of the rocke. 14 Edom denyeth the Iſraelites paſſage. 25. 28 The death of Aarón, in whoſe rowme Eleazar ſuccedeth.
.THen the children of Iſraél came with the whole Congregacion to the deſert of Zin in the firſt a moneth, and the people abode at Kadéſh: where b Miriám dyed, and was buried there.
.But there was no water for the Congregacion, and they c aſſembled them ſelues againſt Moſés and againſt Aarón.
.And the people chode with Moſés, and ſpake, ſaying, Wolde God we had periſhed, * when our brethren dyed before ye Lord.
.* Why haue ye thus broght the Congregacion of the Lord vnto this wildernes, ye both we, and our cattel ſhulde dye there?
.Wherefore now haue ye made vs to come vp frõ Egypt, to bring vs into this miſerable place, which is no place of ſede, nor figs, nor vines, nor pomgranates? nether is there anie water to drinke.
.Then Moſés and Aarón went from the aſſemblie vnto the dore of the Tabernacle of the Congregacion, and fel vpon their faces: and the glorie of the Lord appeared vnto them.
.¶ And ye Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
.Take the d rod, and gather thou and thy brother Aarón the Congregacion together, and ſpeake ye vnto the rocke before their eies, & it ſhal giue forthe his water, and thou ſhalt bring them water out of the rocke: ſo thou ſhalt giue the Congregacion, and their beaſtes drinke.
.Then Moſés toke the rod frõ before the Lord, as he had commanded him.
.And Moſés and Aarón gathered ye Cõgregacion together before the rocke, and Moſés ſayd vnto them, Heare now, ye rebels: e ſhal we bring you water out of this rocke?
.Then Moſés lift vp his hand, and with his rod he ſmote the rocke twiſe, and the water came out abundantly : ſo the Congregacion, and their beaſts dranke.
.¶ Agayne the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés & to Aarón, Becauſe ye beleued me not, to f ſanctifie me in the preſence of the children of Iſraél, therefore ye ſhal not bring this Congregacion into the land which I haue giuen them.
.This is the water " of Meribáh, becauſe the children of Iſraél ſtroue with ye Lord, and he h was ſanctified in them.
.¶ Then Moſes ſent meſſengers from Ka deſh vnto yͤ King of l Edóm, ſaying, Thus ſaith thy brother Iſraél, Thou knoweſt all the trauaile that we haue had,
.How our fathers went downe into E- gypt, and we dwelt in Egypt a long time, where the Egyptians handled vs euil & our fathers.
.But when we cryed vnto the Lord, he he- ard our voyce, and ſent an Angel, & hathe broght vs out of Egypt, & beholde, we are in yͤ citie Kadéſh, in thine vtmoſt border.
.I pray thee that we may paſſe through thy countrey: we wil not go through the fieldes nor the vineyardes, nether wil we drinke of the water of the welles: we wil go by the " kings way, and nether turne vnto the right hand nor to the left, vntil we be paſt thy borders.
.And Edóm anſwered him, " Thou ſhalt not paſſe by me, leſt I come out againſt thee with the ſworde.
.Then the children of Iſraél ſaid vnto him, We wil go vp by the hie way: & if I and my cattel drinke of thy water, I wil then paye for it: I wil onely (without anie harme) go through on my fete.
.He anſwered againe, Thou ſhalt not go through. The " Edóm came out againſt him with muche people, and with a migh- ty power.
.Thus Edóm denied to giue Iſraél paſſa- ge through his coútrie: wherefore Iſraél m turned away from him.
.¶ And when the children of Iſraél with all the Congregacion departed from * Kadeſh, they came vnto the mount Hor.
.And the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés and to Aarón in the mount Hor nere the coſte of the land of Edóm, ſaying,
.Aarón ſhalbe n gathered vnto his peo- ple: for he ſhal not entre into the land, wͤ I haue giuen vnto the children of Iſraél, becauſe ye * diſobeied my commandement at the water of Meribáh * .
.Take * Aarón and Eleazár his ſonne, & bring them vp into the mount Hor,
.And cauſe Aarón to put of his garmēts & put them vpon Eleazár his ſonne: for Aarón ſhal be gathered to his fathers, and ſhal dye there.
.And Moſés did as the Lord had commā- ded: & they went vp into the mount Hor, in the ſight of all the Congregacion.
.And Moſés put of Aarons clothes, and put them vpon Eleazár his ſonne: * ſo Aa- rón dyed there in the top of the moūt: and Moſés and Eleazár came downe from the mount.
.When all the Congregacion ſawe that Aarón was dead, all the houſe of Iſraél wept * for Aarón thirtie dayes.
