Numbers 21

Iſraél vanquiſheth King Arád 6 The firy ſerpen- tes are ſent for the rebellion of the people 24 33 Si- hon and Og are ouercome in battel.
.WHen King * Arád the Canaanite, which dwelt toward the South, heard tel that Iſraél came by the a waie of the ſpies, then foght he againſt Iſraél, and toke of them priſoners.
.So Iſraél vowed a vowe vnto the Lord, and ſaid, If thou wilt deliuer and giue this people into mine hand, then I wil vtterly deſtroye their cities.
.And the Lord heard the voyce of Iſraél, and deliuered them the Canaanites: & they vtterly deſtroyed them and their cities, & called the name of the place * Hormáh.
.¶ After, they departed from the mount Hor by the way of the red Sea, to b com- paſſe the land of Edóm: and the people were ſore grieued becauſe of the way.
.And the people ſpake againſt God and againſt Moſés, c ſaying, Wherefore haue ye broght vs out of Egypt, to dye in the wil- dernes? for here is nether bread nor water, and our ſoule * lotheth this light e bread.
.* Wherefore the Lord ſent d firy ſerpen- tes among the people which ſtóg the peo- ple: ſo that manie of the people of Iſraél dyed.
.Therefore the people came to Moſés and ſaid, We haue ſinned: for we haue ſpo- ken againſt the Lord, and againſt thee: praye to the Lord, that he take away the ſerpents from vs: and Moſés prayed for the people.
.And the Lord ſaid vnto Moſés, Make thee a firy ſerpent, and ſet it vp * for a ſigne, that as manie as are bitten, may loke vpon it, and liue.
.* So Moſés made a ſerpent of braſſe, and ſet it vp for a ſigne: and when a ſerpent had bitten a man, then he loked to the ſer- pent of braſſe, and * liued.
.* And the children of Iſraél departed thence, and pitched in Obóth.
.¶ And they departed from Obóth, and pitched * in Iie-abarím, in the wildernes, which is before Moáb on the Eaſtfide.
.¶ They remoued thence, and pitched vpon the riuer of Záred.
.¶ Thence they departed, and pitched on the other ſide of Arnón, which is in the wildernes, and commeth out of the coſtes of the Amorites: (for Arnón is the border of Moáb, betwene the Moabites and the Amorites)
.Wherefore it ſhalbe ſpoken in the boke of e the battels of the Lord, * what thing he did in the red Sea, and in the riuers of Arnón,
.And at the ſtreame of yͤ riuers that goeth downe to yͤ dwelling of Ar, and lieth vpó the
.¶And from thence they turned to Beér: the ſame is the well where the Lord ſaid vnto Moſés, Aſſemble the people, and I wil giue them water.
.f Then Iſraél ſang this ſong, Riſe vp well, ſing ye vnto it.
.g The princes digged this well, ye captaines of the people digged it, euen with the lawegiuer, with their ſtaues. And from the wildernes they came to Mattanáh,
.¶And from Mattanáh to Nahaliél, and from Nahaliél to Bamoth,
.¶And fró Bamóth in the valley, that is in the plaine of Moáb, to the top of Piſgáh that loketh toward Ieſhimón.
.¶Then Iſraél ſent meſſengers vnto Sihón, King of the Amorites, ſaying,
.* Let me go through thy land: we wil not turne aſide into the fields, nor into the vineyardes, nether drinke of the waters of ye welles: we wil go by the kings way, vntil we be paſt thy countrei.
.* But Sihón gaue Iſraél no licence to paſſe through his countrey, but Sihón aſſembled all his people, and went out againſt Iſraél into the wildernes: and he came to Iahóz, and foght againſt Iſraél.
.* But Iſraél ſmote him with the edge of the ſworde, and conquered his land, from Arnón vnto h Iabók, euen vnto the childré of Ammón: for the border of the children of Ammón was i ſtrong.
.And Iſraél toke all theſe cities, & dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites in Heſhbón and in all the " villages thereof.
.For k Heſhbón was the citie of Sihón the King of the Amorites, which had foght before time againſt the King of the Moabites, and had taken all his land out of his hand, euen vnto Arnón.
.Wherefore they that ſpake in prouerbes, ſay, Come to Heſhbón, let the citie of Sihón be buylt and repared:
.For l a fire is gone out of Heſhbón, and a flame from the citie of Sihón, and hathe conſumed Ar of the Moabites, and the lords of Bamóth in Arnón.
.Wo be to thee, Moáb: ô people of m Chemóſh, thou art vndone: he hathe ſuffred his ſonnes to be purſued: and his daughters to be in captiuitie to Sihón the King of the Amorites.
.Their " empire is loſt from Heſhbón vnto Dibón, and we haue deſtroyed them vnto Nóphah, which reacheth vnto Medebá.
.¶Thus Iſraél dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
.And Moſés ſent to ſearch out Iaazér, and they toke the townes belōging thereto, and roted out the Amorites that were there.
.* * And they turned and went vp toward Baſhán: & Og the King of Baſhán came out againſt them, he, and all his people, to fight at Edréi.
.Then the Lord ſaid vnto Moſés, Feare him not: for I haue deliuered him into thine hand & all his people, and his land: * and thou ſhalt do to him as thou dideſt vnto Sihón the King of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heſhbón.
.They ſmote him therefore, and his ſonnes, and all his people, vntil there was none left him: ſo they conquered his land.
