Ezekiel 18

2 He ſheweth that euerie man ſhal beare his owne ſynne. 21 To him that amendeth, is ſaluacion promiſed. 24 Death is prophecied to the righteous, which turneth backe from the right waye.
1.THe worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, ſaying,
2.What meane ye that ye ſpeake this prouerbe, concerning ye land of Iſraél, ſaying, The fathers haue eaten ſoure grapes, & the childrens teeth are ſet on edge?
3.As I liue, ſaith the Lord God, ye ſhal vſe this prouerbe no more in Iſraél.
4.Beholde, all ſoules are mine, bothe the ſoule of the father, and alſo the ſoule of the ſonne are mine: the ſoule that ſinneth, it ſhal dye.
5.But if a man be iuſt, and do that which is lawful, and right,
6.And hathe not eaten vpõ the mountaines, nether hathe lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the houſe of Iſraél, nether hathe defiled his neighbours wife, nether hathe lien with a menſtruous woman,
7.Nether hathe oppreſſed any, but hathe reſtored the pledge to his dettour: he that hathe ſpoiled none by violence, but hathe giuen his bread to the hungrie, and hathe couered the naked with a garment,
8.And hathe not giuen forthe vpon vſurie, nether hathe taken any increaſe, but hathe withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hathe executed true iudgement betwene man and man,
9.And hathe walked in my ſtatutes, and hathe kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iuſte, he ſhal ſurely liue, ſaith ye Lord God.
10.¶ If he beget a ſonne, that is a thiefe, or a ſheader of blood, if he do any one of theſe things,
11.Thogh he do not all theſe things, but ether hathe eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,
12.Or hathe oppreſſed the poore and nedy, or hathe ſpoiled by violence, or hathe not reſtored the pledge, or hathe lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hathe committed abomination,
13.Or hathe giuen forthe vpon vſurie, or hathe taken increaſe, ſhal he liue? he ſhal not liue: ſeing he hathe done all theſe abominacions, he ſhal dye the death, and his blood ſhalbe vpon him.
14.¶ But if he beget a ſonne, that ſeeth all his fathers ſinnes, which he hathe done, and feareth, nether doeth ſuche like,
15.That hathe not eaten vpon the mountaines, nether hathe lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the houſe of Iſraél, nor hathe defiled his neighbours wife,
16.Nether hathe oppreſſed anie, nor hathe withholden the pledge, nether hathe ſpoiled by violence, but hathe giuẽ his bread to the hungrie, and hathe couered the naked with a garment,
17.Nether hathe withdrawen his hand frõ the afflicted, nor receiued vſurie nor increaſe, but hathe executed my iudgements, & hathe walked in my ſtatutes, he ſhal not dye in the iniquitie of his father, but he ſhal ſurely liue.
18.His father, becauſe he cruelly oppreſſed and ſpoiled his brother by violence, and hathe not done good among his people, lo, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.
19.Yet ſaie ye, Wherefore ſhal not the ſonne beare the iniquitie of the father? becauſe the ſonne hathe executed iudgement & iuſtice, & hathe kept all my ſtatutes, and done them, he ſhal ſurely liue.
20.The ſame ſoule that ſinneth, ſhal dye: the ſonne ſhal not beare the iniquitie of the father, nether ſhal the father beare the iniquitie of the ſonne, but the righteouſnes of the righteous ſhalbe vpon him, and the wickednes of the wicked ſhalbe vpon him ſelf.
21.But if the wicked wil returne from all his ſinnes that he hathe committed, and kepe all my ſtatutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he ſhal ſurely liue, & ſhal not dye.
22.All his tranſgreſsions that he hathe committed, thei ſhal not be mencioned vnto him, but in his righteouſnes that he hathe done, he ſhal liue.
23.Haue I anie deſire that the wicked ſhulde dye, ſaith the Lord God? or ſhal he not liue, if he returne from his waies?
24.But if the righteous turne awaie from his righteouſnes, and commit iniquitie, & do according to all the abominaciõs, that the wicked man doeth, ſhal he liue? all his righteouſnes that he hathe done, ſhal not be mencioned: but in his tranſgreſsion that he hathe committed, and in his ſinne that he hathe ſinned, in them ſhal he dye.
25.Yet ye ſaie, The waie of the Lord is not equal: heare now, ô houſe of Iſraél. Is not my waie equal? or are not your waies vnequal?
26.For when a righteous man turneth awaie from his righteouſnes, and cõmitteth iniquitie, he ſhal euen dye for the ſame, he ſhal euen dye for his iniquitie, that he hathe done.
27.Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hathe committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he ſhal ſaue his ſoule aliue.
28.Becauſe he conſidereth, & turneth awaie from all his tranſgreſsions that he hathe committed, he ſhal ſurely liue & ſhal not dye.
29.Yet ſaith the houſe of Iſraél, The waie of the Lord is not equal. O houſe of Iſraél, are not my waies equal? or are not your waies vnequal?
30.Therefore I wil iudge you, ô houſe of Iſraél, euerie one according to his waies, ſaith the Lord God: returne therefore and cauſe others to turne awaie from all your tranſgreſsions: ſo iniquitie ſhal not be your deſtruction.
31.Caſt away from you all your tranſgreſsions, whereby ye haue tranſgreſſed & make you a new heart and a new ſpirit: for why wil ye dye, ô houſe of Iſraél?
32.For I deſire not the death of him that dyeth, ſaith the Lord God: cauſe therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.
