Ezekiel 16

The Prophet declareth the benefites of God toward Ieruſalém 15 Their vnkindnes. 46 He iuſtifieth the wickednes of other people in compariſon of the ſinnes of Ieruſalém. 49 The cauſe of the abominacions, into which the Sodomites fel. 60 Mercie is promiſed to the repentant.
1.AGaine, the worde of the Lord came vnto me, ſaying,
2.Sonne of man, cauſe Ieruſalém to knowe her abominacions,
3.And ſay, Thus ſaith the Lord God vnto Ieruſalém, Thine habitacion & thy kinred is of the land of Canáan: thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite.
4.And in thy natiuitie whē thou waſt borne, thy nauel was not cut: thou waſt not waſhed in water to ſoften thee: thou waſt not ſalted with ſalt, nor ſwadeled in cloutes.
5.None eye pitied thee to do any of theſe vnto thee, for to haue compaſsion vpon thee, but thou waſt caſt out in the opē field to the contempt of thy perſone in the day that thou waſt borne.
6.And when I paſſed by thee, I ſawe thee polluted in thine owne blood, and I ſaid vnto thee, when thou waſt in thy blood, Thou ſhalt liue: euen when yu waſt in thy blood, I ſaid vnto thee, Thou ſhalt liue.
7.I haue cauſed thee to multiplie, as ye bud of the field, and thou haſt increaſed, and waxen great, and thou haſt gotten excellent ornamēts: thy breſts are facioned, thine heere is growen, where as thou waſt naked and bare.
8.Now when I paſſed by thee, and loked vpon thee, beholde, thy time was as the time of loue, & I ſpred my ſkirtes ouer thee, and couered thy filthines: yea, I ſware vnto thee, and entred into a couenant with thee, ſaith the Lord God, and thou becameſt mine.
9.Then waſhed I thee with water: yea, I waſhed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oyle.
10.I clothed thee alſo with broydred worke, and ſhod thee with badgers ſkinne: and I girded thee about with fine linen, & I couered thee with ſilke.
11.I decked thee alſo with ornaments, and I put braſſelets vpon thine hands, & a chaine on thy necke.
12.And I put a frontelet vpon thy face, and earings in thine eares, & a beautiful crowne vpon thine head.
13.Thus waſt thou dect with golde and ſiluer, and thy raiment was of fine linen, and ſilke, & broydered worke: thou dideſt eat fine floure, and hony and oyle, & thou waſt very beautiful, and thou dideſt growe vp into a kingdome.
14.And thy name was ſpred among the heathen for thy beautie: for it was perfite through my beautie which I had ſet vpon thee, ſaith the Lord God.

3:a.
Thou boaſteſt to be of ye ſede of Abrahám, but thou art degenerate and followeſt the abominacions of the wicked Canaanites, as children do the maners of their fathers.
4:b.
When I firſt broght thee out of Egypt, & plāted thee in this land to be my Church
6:c.
Being thus in thy filthines and forſaken of all mē, I toke thee & gaue thee life: whereby is ment that before God waſh his Church, & giue life, there is nothing, but filthines and death
8:d.
Theſe wordes, as blood, pollucion, nakednes & filthines are oft times repeted, to beate downe their pride, and to cauſe them to conſider what thei were before God receiued them to mercie, fauoured them & couered their ſhame
8:e.
That thou ſhuldeſt be a chaſte wife vnto me, and that I ſhulde mainteine thee & endue thee wt all graces
9:f.
I waſhed away thy ſinnes
9:g.
I ſanctified thee with mine holy Spirit.
12:h.
Hereby he ſheweth how he fauoured his Church, enriched yt & gaue it power and dominion to reigne
14:i.
He declareth wherein the dignitie of Ieruſalém ſtode: to wit, in that that the Lord gaue them of his beautie and excellencie.
