He reproueth the people for their idolatrie 15 Thei that ſet light by the threatning of the Lord, are chaſtened. 26 The deſtructio~ of Egypt and of the Iewes therein, is prophecied.

1.THe worde that came to Ieremiáh concerning all the Iewes, which dwell in the land of Egypt, and remained at Migdól and at ^aTahpanhes, and at Noph, and in the countrey of Pathrós, ſaying,

2.Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Ye haue ſene all the euil that I haue broght vpon Ieruſalém, and vpon all y~ cities of Iudáh: & beholde, this day thei are deſolate, & no man dwelleth therein,

3.Becauſe of their wickednes which thei haue committed, to prouoke me to angre in that thei went to burne incenſe, & to ſerue other gods, whome thei knewe not, nether thei nor you nor your fathers.

4.Howbeit I ſent vnto you all my ſeruants the Prophetes ^*riſing early, and ſending them, ſaying, Oh do not this abominable thing that I hate.

5.But thei wolde not heare nor incline their eare to turne from their wickednes, and to burne no more incẽſe vnto other gods.

6.Wherefore ^cmy wrath, and mine angre was powred forthe and was kindled in the cities of Iudáh, and in the ſtretes of Ieruſalém, and thei are deſolate, & waſted, as appeareth this daye.

7.Therefore now thus ſaith y~ Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Wherefore commit ye this great euil againſt your ſoules, to cut of from you man and woman, childe & ſuckeling out of Iudáh, and leaue you none to remaine?

8.In that ye prouoke me vnto wrath with the workes of your hands, burning incenſe vnto other gods in the land of Egypt whether ye be gone to dwell: y~ ye might bring deſtruction vnto your ſelues, and that ye might be a curſſe and a reproche among all nations of the earth.

9.Haue ye forgotten the wickednes of your fathers, and the wickednes of the ^dKings of Iudáh and the wickednes of their wiues and your owne wickednes and the wickednes of your wiues, which thei haue committed in the land of Iudáh and in y~ ſtretes of Ieruſalém?

10.Thei are not ^"humbled vnto this daie, nether haue thei feared nor walked in my Lawe nor in my ſtatutes, that I ſet before you and before your fathers.

11.Therefore thus ſaith y~ Lord of hoſtes y~ God of Iſraél, Beholde, I wil ſet my face againſt you ^*to euil & to deſtroy all Iudáh,

12.And I wil take the remnant of Iudáh, that ^ehaue ſet their faces to go into the land of Egypt there to dwell, and thei ſhal all be conſumed & fall in the land of Egypt: they ſhal euen be conſumed by the ſworde & by y~ famine: thei ſhal dye from the leaſt vnto the moſte, by the ſworde, & by the famine, & thei ſhalbe a deteſtation and an aſtoniſhment and a ^*curſſe and a reproche.

13.For I wil viſit them that dwell in the la~d of Egypt, as I haue viſited Ieruſalém, by y~ ſworde, by the famine, & by the peſtilence,

14.So that none of the remnant of Iudáh, which are gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, ſhal ^geſcape or remaine, that thei ſhuld returne into the la~d of Iudáh to the which thei ^"haue a deſire to returne to dwell there: for none ſhal returne, but ⁱſuche as ſhal eſcape.

15.Then all the men which knewe that their wiues had burnt incenſe vnto other gods and all the women that ſtode by, a great multitude, euen all the people that dwelt in the land of Egypt in Pathrós, anſwered Ieremiáh, ſaying,

16.The worde that thou haſt ſpoken vnto vs in the Name of the Lord, we wil ^hnot heare it of thee,

17.But we wil do whatſoeuer thing goeth out of our owne mouth, as to burne incenſe vnto ^*the Quene of heauẽ, & to powre out drinke offrings vnto her, as we haue done, bothe we and our fathers, our Kings and our princes in the citie of Iudáh, and in the ſtretes of Ieruſalém: for then ^"had we ^kplentie of vitailes and were wel and felt none euil.

18.But ſince we left of to burne incenſe to the Quene of heauen, and to powre out drinke offrings vnto her, we haue had ſcarcenes of all things, and haue bene conſumed by the ſworde and by the famine.

19.And when we burnt incenſe to the Quene of heauen & powred out drinke offrings vnto her, did we make her cakes to ^"make her glad, and powre out drinke offrings vnto her without ^lour houſbandes?

20.Then ſaid Ieremiáh vnto all the people, to the men, and to the women, and to all y~ people y~ had giuẽ him y~ anſwer, ſaying,

21.Did not y~ Lord remẽber the incẽſe, that ye burnt in y~ cities of Iudáh, & in the ſtretes of Ieruſalém, bothe you, & your fathers, your Kings, and your princes, and the people of y~ la~d, & ^"hathe he not cõſidered it?

22.So that the Lord colde no longer forbeare, becauſe of the wickednes of your inuencions, & becauſe of the abominations, which ye haue cōmitted: therefore is your land deſolate and an aſtoniſhment, & a curſſe & without inhabitant, as appeareth this daie.

23.Becauſe ye haue burnt incēſe and becauſe ye haue ſinned againſt the Lord, & haue not obeied the voice of the Lord, nor walked in his Law nor in his ſtatutes, nor in his teſtimonies, therefore this plague is come vpon you, as appeareth this day.

24.Moreouer Ieremiáh ſaid vnto all the people and to all the women, Heare the worde of the Lord, all Iudáh that are in the land of Egypt.

25.Thus ſpeaketh y^e Lord of hoſtes, y^e God of Iſraél, ſaying, Ye and your wiues haue bothe ſpoken with your mouthes, and fulfilled with your ^mhand, ſaying, We wil performe our vowes y^t we haue vowed to burne incenſe to y^e Queene of heauen, and to powre out drinke offrings to her: ye wil performe your vowes and do the things that ye haue vowed.

26.Therefore heare the worde of the Lord, all Iudáh that dwell in the land of Egypt. Beholde, I haue ſworne by my great Name, ſaith the Lord, that my Name ⁿſhal no more be called vpon by the mouth of any man of Iudáh, in all the land of Egypt, ſaying, The Lord God liueth.

27.Beholde, I wil watche ouer them for euil and not for good, and all men of Iudáh that are in the land of Egypt, ſhal be conſumed by the ſworde, and by the famine, vntil thei be vtterly deſtroyed.

28.Yet a ſmale nombre that eſcape the ſworde, ^oſhal returne out of the land of Egypt into the land of Iudáh: and all the remnant of Iudáh that are gone into the land of Egypt to dwell there, ſhal knowe whoſe wordes ſhal ſtand, mine or theirs.

29.And this ſhal be a ſigne vnto you, ſaith the Lord, when I viſite you in this place, that ye maie knowe that my wordes ſhal ſurely ſtand againſt you for euil.

30.Thus ſaith the Lord, Beholde, I wil ^pgiue Pharaóh Hophrá King of Egypt into the hand of his enemies, and into the hand of them that ſeke his life: as I gaue Zedekiáh King of Iudáh into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél his enemie, who alſo ſoght his life.
