Jeremiah 43

Iohanán caryeth the remnant of the people into Egypt contrarie to the minde of Ieremiáh. 8 Ieremiáh prophecieth the deſtruction of Egypt.
1.NOw whẽ Ieremiáh had made an end of ſpeaking vnto the whole people all the wordes of the Lord their God, for the which ye Lord their God had ſent him to them, euen all theſe wordes,
2.Then ſpake Azariáh the ſonne of Hoſhaiáh, and Iohanán the ſonne of Karéah, and all the proude men, ſaying vnto Ieremiáh, Thou ſpeakeſt falſly: the Lord our God hathe not ſent thee to ſay, Go not into Egypt to dwell there,
3.But Barúch the ſonne of Neriáh prouoketh thee againſt vs, for to deliuer vs into the hand of the Caldeans, that they might ſlaye vs, and carie vs away captiues into Babél.
4.So Iohanán the ſonne of Karéah, and all the capitaines of the hoſte, and all the people obeyed not the voyce of the Lord, to dwell in the land of Iudáh.
5.But Iohanán the ſonne of Karéah, and all the capitaines of the hoſte toke all ye remnant of Iudáh, that were returned from all nacions, whether thei had bene driuẽ, to dwell in the land of Iudáh:
6.Euen men and women, and children, and the Kings daughters, and euerie perſone, that Nebuzar-adán the chief ſteward had left with Gedaliáh the ſonne of Ahikám, the ſonne of Shaphán, and Ieremiáh ye Prophet, & Barúch the ſonne of Neriáh.
7.So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voyce of the Lord: thus came they to Tahpanhes.
8.¶ Then came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiáh in Tahpanhes, ſaying,
9.Take great ſtones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the bricke kil, which is at the entrie of Pharaohs houſe in Tahpanhes in the ſight of the men of Iudáh,
10.And ſay vnto them, Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Beholde, I wil ſend and bring Nebuchad-nezzár the King of Babél my ſeruant, and wil ſet his throne vpõ theſe ſtones yt I haue hid, and he ſhal ſpreade his pauillion ouer thẽ.
11.And when he ſhal come, he ſhal ſmite the land of Egypt: ſuche as are appointed for death, to death, & ſuch as are for captiuitie, to captiuitie, and ſuche as are for the ſworde, to the ſworde.
12.And I wil kindle a fyre in the houſes of the gods of Egypt, and he ſhal burne them and carye them awaie captiues, and he ſhal araye him ſelf with the land of Egypt, as a ſhepherd putteth on his garment, and ſhal departe from thence in peace.
13.He ſhal breake alſo the images of Beth-ſhémeſh, that is in the land of Egypt, and the houſes of the gods of the Egyptians ſhal he burne with fyre.
