Jeremiah 34

2 He threateneth that the citie, and the King Zedekiáh ſhalbe giuen into the hands of the King of Babylon. 11 He rebuketh their crueltie towarde their ſeruants.
1.THe worde wc came vnto Ieremiáh frõ the Lord(when Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél, and all his hoſte, & all the kingdomes of the earth, that were vnder the power of his hand, and all people fought againſt Ieruſalém, and againſt all the cities thereof) ſaying,
2.Thus ſaith the Lord God of Iſraél, Go, and ſpeake to Zedekiáh King of Iudáh, & tel him, Thus ſaith the Lord, Behold, I wil giue this citie into the hand of the King of Babél, and he ſhal burne it wt fyre,
3.And thou ſhalt not eſcape out of his hãd, but ſhalt ſurely be taken, and deliuered into his hand, and thine eies ſhal beholde the face of the King of Babél, and he ſhal ſpeake with thee mouthe to mouthe, and thou ſhalt go to Babél.
4.Yet heare the worde of the Lord, ô Zedekiáh, King of Iudáh: thus ſaith the Lord of thee, Thou ſhalt not dye by ye ſworde,
5.But thou ſhalt dye in peace: & according to the burning for thy fathers the former Kings which were before thee, ſo ſhal thei burne odours for thee, and thei ſhal lament thee, ſaying, Oh lord: for I haue pronounced the worde, ſaith the Lord.
6.Then Ieremiáh ye Prophet ſpake all theſe wordes vnto Zedekiáh King of Iudáh in Ieruſalém,
7.(When the King of Babels hoſte foght againſt Ieruſalém, and againſt all the cities of Iudáh, that were left, euen againſt Lachíſh, & againſt Azekáh: for theſe ſtrong cities remained of the cities of Iudáh)
8.This is the worde that came vnto Ieremiáh from the Lord, after that the King Zedekiáh had made a couenant with all ye people, which were at Ieruſalém, to proclaime libertie vnto them,
9.That euerie man ſhulde let his ſeruant go fre, & euerie man his handmaide, which was an Ebrue or an Ebrueſſe, & that none ſhulde ſerue him ſelue of them, to wit, of a Iewe his brother.
10.Now when all the princes, & all the people which had agreed to ye couenant, heard that euerie one ſhulde let his ſeruãt go fre, & and euerie one his handmaide, and that none ſhulde ſerue them ſelues of them any more, thei obeied and let them go.
11.But afterwarde thei repented and cauſed the ſeruants & the handmaids, whome thei had let go fre to returne & helde thē in ſubiection as ſeruants and handmaides.
12.Therefore the worde of the Lord came vnto Ieremiáh from the Lord, ſaying,
13.Thus ſaith ye Lord God of Iſraél, I made a couenant with your fathers, when I broght them out of the land of Egypt, out of the houſe of ſeruants, ſaying,
14.At the terme of ſeuen yeres let ye go, euerie mā his brother an Ebrewe which hathe bene ſolde vnto thee: & when he hathe ſerued thee ſix yeres, thou ſhalt let him go fre from thee: but your fathers obeied me not, nether inclined their eares.
15.And ye were now turned, and had done right in my ſight in proclaiming libertie, euerie man to his neighbour, and ye had made a couenant before me in the Houſe, whereupon my Name is called.
16.But ye repented, and polluted my Name: for ye haue cauſed euerie man his ſeruant, & euerie man his handmaide, whome ye had ſet at libertie at their pleaſure, to returne, and holde them in ſubiection to be vnto you as ſeruants and as handmaides.
17.Therefore thus ſaith the Lord, Ye haue not obeied me, in proclaiming fredome euerie man to his brother, and euerie man to his neighbour: beholde, I proclaime a libertie for you, ſaith ye Lord, to the ſworde, to the peſtilence, and to the famine, & I wil make you a terrour to all the kingdomes of the earth.
18.And I wil giue thoſe men that haue broken my couenant, and haue not kept the wordes of the couenant, which thei had made before me, when thei cut the calfe in twaine, and paſſed betwene the partes thereof.
19.The princes of Iudáh, and the princes of Ieruſalém, the Eunuches, and the Prieſtes, and all the people of the land, which paſſed betwene the partes of the calfe,
20.I wil euen giue them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hands of thē that ſeke their life: and their dead bodies ſhalbe for meat vnto the foules of the heauen, and to the beaſtes of the earth.
21.And Zedekiáh King of Iudáh, and his princes wil I giue into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of thē that ſeke their life, & into the hand of the King of Babels hoſte, wc are gone vp from you.
22.Beholde, I wil cōmande, ſaith the Lord, and cauſe them to returne to this citie, and thei ſhal fight againſt it, and take it, and burne it with fyre: and I wil make ye cities of Iudáh deſolate without an inhabitant.
