Ieremiáh is caſt into priſon becauſe he prophecied that the citie ſhulde be takẽ of the King of Babylon. 7 He ſheweth, that the people ſhulde come againe to their owne poſſeſsion. 38 The people of God are his ſeruants, and he is their Lord.

1.THe worde that came vnto Ieremiáh from the Lord, in the ^atenth yere of Zedekiáh King of Iudáh, which was the eightenth yere of Nebuchad-nezzár.

2.For then the King of Babels hoſte beſieged Ieruſalém: and Ieremiáh the Prophet was ſhut vp in the court of the priſon, w^c was in the King of Iudáhs houſe.

3.For Zedekiáh King of Iudáh had ſhut him vp, ſaying, Wherefore doeſt thou prophecie, & ſay, Thus ſaith the Lord, ^*Beholde, I wil giue this citie into the hands of the King of Babél, and he ſhal take it?

4.And Zedekiáh the King of Iudáh ſhal not eſcape out of the hand of y^e Caldeans, but ſhal ſurely be deliuered into the hãds of the King of Babél, and ſhal ſpeake with him mouthe to mouthe, and his eyes ſhal beholde his face,

5.And he ſhal lead Zedekiáh to Babél, and there ſhal he be, vntil ^bI viſite him, ſaith the Lord: thogh ye fight with the Caldeans, ye ſhal not proſper.

6.¶ And Ieremiáh ſaid, The worde of the Lord came vnto me, ſaying,

7.^cBeholde, Hanameél, the ſonne of Shallúm thine vncle, ſhal come vnto thee and ſaie, Bye vnto thee my field, that is in Anathóth: for the ^"title by kinred apperteineth vnto thee ^dto bye it.

8.So Hanameél, mine vncles ſonne, came to me in the court of the priſon, according to the worde of the Lord, and ſaid vnto me, Bye my ^efield, I praie thee, that is in Anathóth, which is in the countrei of Beniamín: for the right of the poſſeſſion is thine, and the purchaſe belongeth vnto thee: bye it for thee. Then I knewe that this was the worde of the Lord.

9.And I boght the field of Hanameél, mine vncles ſonne, that was in Anathóth and weighed him y^e ſiluer, euen ſeuen ^fſhekels, and ten pieces of ſiluer.

10.And I writ it in the boke and ſigned it, & toke witneſſes, and weighed him the ſiluer in the balances.

11.So I toke the boke of the poſſeſſion, being ſealed ^gaccording to the Law, and cuſtome, with the boke that was open,

12.And I gaue the boke of the poſſeſsion vnto Barúch the ſonne of Neriáh, the ſonne of Maaſeiáh, in the ſight of Hanameél mine vncles ſonne, and in y^e preſence of the witneſſes, writen in the boke of the poſſeſsion, before all the Iewes that ſate in the court of the priſon.

13.And I charged Barúch before them, ſaying,

14.Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes, the God of Iſraél, Take the writings, euen this boke of the poſſeſsion, bothe that is ſealed, and this boke that is open, and put them in an earthen ^hveſſel, that thei maie continue a long time.

15.For the Lord of hoſtes, the God of Iſraél ſaith thus, Houſes and fields, and vineyardes ſhalbe poſſeſſed againe in this land.

16.¶ Now when I had deliuered the boke of the poſſeſsion vnto Barúch, the ſonne of Neriáh, I prayed vnto the Lord, ſaying,

17.Ah Lord God, beholde, thou haſt made the heauẽ and the earth by thy great power, and by thy ſtretched out arme, and there is nothing ^"hard vnto thee.

18.^*Thou ſheweſt mercie vnto thouſands, and recompenſeſt the iniquitie of the fathers into y^e boſome of their ⁱchildrẽ after them: ô God the great and mightie, whoſe Name is the Lord of hoſtes,

19.Great in counſel, and mightie in worke, (for thine eyes are opẽ vpon all the waies of the ſonnes of men, to giue to euerie one according to his waies, and according to the frute of his workes)

20.Which haſt ſet ſignes and wonders in the land of Egypt vnto this ^kday, & in Iſraél, and among all men, and haſt made thee a Name, as appeareth this daie,

21.And haſt broght thy people Iſraél out of the lãd of Egypt with ſignes, and with wonders, and with a ſtrong hand, with a ſtretched out arme, and with great terror,

22.And haſt giuen them this land, which thou dideſt ſweare to their fathers to giue them, euen a land, that floweth with milke and honie,

23.And they came in, and poſſeſſed it, but they obeyed not thy voyce, nether walked in thy Law: all that thou commandedſt them to do, they haue not done: therefore thou haſt cauſed this whole plague to come vpon them.

24.Beholde, the ^lmounts, they are come into the citie to take it, and the citie is giuen into the hand of the Caldeans, that fight againſt it by meanes of the ſworde, and of the famine, and of the peſtilence, and what thou haſt ſpoken, is come to paſſe, and beholde, thou ſeeſt it.

25.And thou haſt ſaid vnto me, ô Lord God, Bye vnto thee the field for ſiluer, and take witneſſes: for the citie ſhalbe giuen into the hand of the Caldeans.

26.¶ Thẽ came the worde of the Lord vnto Ieremiáh, ſaying,

27.Beholde, I am the Lord God of all ^mfleſh: is there anie thing to hard for me?

28.Therefore thus ſaith the Lord, Beholde, I wil giue this citie into the hand of the Caldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchad-nezzár, King of Babél, and he ſhal take it.

29.And the Caldeans ſhal come and fight againſt this citie, and ſet fyre on this citie and burne it, with the houſes, vpon whoſe roofes they haue offred incenſe vnto Báal, and powred drinke offrings vnto other gods, to prouoke me vnto angre.

30.For the children of Iſraél, and the children of Iudáh haue ſurely done euil before me from their ⁿyouth: for the children of Iſraél haue ſurely prouoked me to angre with the workes of their hands, ſaith the Lord.

31.Therefore this citie hathe bene vnto me as a prouocation of mine angre, and of my wrath, from the daye, that they buylt it, euen vnto this daye, that I ſhulde remoue it out of my ſight,

32.Becauſe of all the euil of the children of Iſraél, and of the children of Iudáh, which they haue done to prouoke me to angre, euen they, their Kings, their princes, their Prieſts, and their Prophetes, and the mẽ of Iudáh, and the inhabitãts of Ieruſalém.

33.And they haue turned vnto me the backe & not the face: thogh I taught them, ^*riſing vp early, and inſtructing them, yet they were not obediẽt to receiue doctrine,

34.But they ſet their abominations in the houſe (whereupon my Name was called) to defile it,

35.And they buylt the hye ^pplaces of Báal, which are in the valley of ^*Ben-hinnóm, to cauſe their ſonnes, and their daughters to ^*paſſe through the fyre vnto Moléch, w^c I commãded them not, nether came it into my minde, that they ſhulde do ſuche abomination, to cauſe Iudáh to ſinne.

36.And now ^*therefore, thus hathe the Lord God of Iſraél ſpoken, concerning this citie, whereof ye ſay, It ſhalbe deliuered into the hand of the King of Babél by the ſworde, and by the famine, and by the peſtilence,

37.^*Beholde, I wil gather thẽ out of all countreis, wherein I haue ſcattred them in mine angre, & in my wrath, and in great indignation, and I wil bring them againe vnto this place, and I wil cauſe them to dwell ſafely.

38.And they ſhal be ^*my people, and I wil be their God.

39.And I wil giue thẽ ^tone heart & one way y^t thei may feare me for euer for the welth of them, & of their children after them.

40.And I wil make an ^*euerlaſting couenãt w^t thẽ, that I wil neuer turne away frõ thẽ to do thẽ good, but I wil put my feare in their hearts, y^t thei ſhal not departe frõ me.

41.Yea, I wil delite in thẽ to do thẽ good, & I wil plant them in this land aſſuredly with my whole heart, & with all my ſoule.

42.For thus ſaith the Lord, Like as I haue broght all this great plague vpon this people, ſo wil I bring vpon them all the good that I haue promiſed them.

43.And the fields ſhal be poſſeſſed in this land, whereof ye ſay, It is deſolate without man or beaſt, and ſhalbe giuen into the hand of the Caldeans.

44.Mẽ ſhal bye ^xfields for ſiluer, and make writings, and ſeale them, and take witneſſes in the land of Beniamín, and round about Ieruſalém, & in the cities of Iudáh, and in the cities of the mountaines, and in the cities of the plaine, and in the cities of the South: for I wil cauſe their captiuitie to returne, ſaith the Lord.
