Jeremiah 27

1 Ieremiáh at the commandement of the Lord ſendeth bondes to the King of Iudáh and to the other Kings that were nere, whereby thei are manifeſted to be ſubiectes vnto Nebuchad-nezzár 9 He warneth the people & the Kings & rulers that thei beleue not falſe Prophetes.
1.IN the beginning of the reigne of Iehoiakím ye ſonne of Ioſiáh King of Iu dáh came this worde vnto Ieremiáh from the Lord, ſaying,
2.Thus ſaith the Lord to me, Make thee bondes, and yokes, and put them vpon thy necke,
3.And ſend them to the King of Edóm, & to the King of Moáb, and to the King of the Ammonites, and to the King of Tyrus, and to the King of Zidón, by the hãd of the meſſengers which come to Ieruſalém vnto Zedekiáh the King of Iudáh,
4.And commande them to ſay vnto their maſters, Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Thus ſhal ye ſay vnto your maſters,
5.I haue made the earth, the man, and the beaſt that are vpõ the groũde, by my great power, & by my outſtretched arme, & haue giuen it vnto whome it pleaſed me.
6.But now I haue giuen all theſe lands into the hãd of Nebuchad-nezzár the King of Babél my ſeruant, and the beaſtes of the field haue I alſo giuẽ him to ſerue him.
7.And all nations ſhal ſerue him, and his ſonne, and his ſonnes ſonne vntil the verie time of his land come alſo: then manie nations and great Kings ſhal ſerue them ſelues of him.
8.And the nation & kingdome which wil not ſerue yͤ ſame Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél, and that wil not put their necke vnder the yoke of the King of Babél, the ſame nation wil I viſite, ſaith the Lord, with the ſworde, and with the famine, and with the peſtilence, vntil I haue wholy giuen them into his hands.
9.Therefore heare not your Prophetes nor your ſouthſayers, nor your dreamers, nor your inchanters, nor your ſorcerers, which ſaie vnto you thus, Ye ſhal not ſerue the King of Babél.
10.For thei prophecie a lie vnto you to cau ſe you to go farre from your land, and that I ſhulde caſt you out, and you ſhulde periſh.
11.But the nation that put their neckes vnder the yoke of the King of Babél, & ſerue him, thoſe wil I let remaine ſtil in their owne land, ſaith the Lord, and thei ſhal occupie it and dwell therein.
12.¶ I ſpake alſo to Zedekiáh King of Iudáh according to all theſe wordes, ſaying, Put your neckes vnder the yoke of the King of Babél, and ſerue him and his people, that ye may liue.
13.Why wil ye dye, thou, & thy people by the ſworde, by the famine, and by the peſti lẽce, as the Lord hathe ſpokẽ againſt yͤ nation, that wil not ſerue yͤ King of Babél?
14.Therefore heare not the wordes of the Prophetes, that ſpeake vnto you, ſaying, Ye ſhal not ſerue the King of Babél: for they prophecie a lie vnto you.
15.For I haue not ſent thẽ, ſaith the Lord, yet they prophecie a lie in my Name, that I might caſt you out, and that ye might pe riſh, bothe you, & the Prophetes that prophecie vnto you.
16.¶ Alſo I ſpake to yͤ Prieſtes, & to all this people, ſaying, Thus ſaith the Lord, Heare not the wordes of your Prophetes that prophecie vnto you, ſaying, Beholde, the veſſels of the Houſe of the Lord ſhal now ſhortely be broght againe from Babél, for they prophecie a lie vnto you.
17.Heare the not, but ſerue the King of Babél, that ye may liue: wherefore ſhulde this citie be deſolate?
18.But if they be Prophetes, and if the worde of the Lord be with thẽ, let them in treat the Lord of hoſtes, that the veſſels, which are left in the Houſe of the Lord, & in the houſe of the King of Iudáh, & at Ie ruſalém, go not to Babél.
19.For thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes, concerning the pillers, and concerning the ſea, and concerning the baſes, and concerning the reſidue of the veſſels that remaine in this citie,
20.Which Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél toke not, when he caryed away captiue Ieconiah the ſonne of Iehoiakim King of Iudáh from Ieruſalém to Babél, with all the nobles of Iudáh and Ieruſalém.
21.For thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes yͤ God of Iſraél, cõcerning the veſſels yͤ remaine in the Houſe of the Lord, & in yͤ houſe of the King of Iudáh, and at Ieruſalém,
22.They ſhalbe broght to Babel, and there thei ſhalbe vntil the day that I viſite thẽ, ſaith the Lord: then wil I bring them vp, and reſtore them vnto this place.

As touching the diſpoſitiõ of theſe prophecies, they that gathered them into a booke, did not altogether obſerue the order of times, but did ſet ſome afore, which ſhoulde be after, and contrarie wiſe: which if the reader marke wel, it ſhal auoide many doutes, & make the reading muche more eaſy.

By ſuche ſignes yͤ Prophetes vſed ſome times to confirme their prophecies, w̃ notwithſtãding they colde not do of them ſelues, but in aſmuche as they had a reuelacion for the ſame, Iſa 20,2. and therefore the falſe prophetes to get more credit did vſe alſo ſuche viſible ſignes, but they had no reuelacion, 1.King 22,11.
