1 Ieremiah is ſmitten and caſt into priſon for preaching of the worde of God. 3 He prophecieth the captiuitie of Babylon. 7 He complaineth that he is a mocking ſtocke for the worde of God. 9 He is compelled by the ſpirit to preache the worde.

1.WHen Paſhúr, the ſonne of Immér, the Prieſt, which was appointed gouernour in y^e Houſe of the Lord, heard that Ieremiáh prophecied theſe things,

2.Then Paſhúr ſmote Ieremiáh the Prophet, and put him in the ^aſtockes that were in the hie gate of Beniamín which was by the Houſe of the Lord.

3.And on the morning, Paſhúr broght Ieremiáh out of the ſtockes. Then ſaid Ieremiáh vnto him, The Lord hathe not called thy name Paſhúr, but ^"Magór-miſſabíb.

4.For thus ſaith the Lord, Beholde, I wil make thee to be a terrour to thy ſelf, & to all thy friends, and thei ſhal fall by the ſworde of their enemies, & thine eyes ſhal beholde it, and I wil giue all Iudáh into the hand of the King of Babél, and he ſhal carie them captiue into Babél, and ſhal ſlaie them with the ſworde.

5.Moreouer I wil deliuer all the ſubſtance of this citie, and all the labours thereof & all the precious things thereof, and all y^e treaſures of the Kings of Iudáh wil I giue into the hand of their enemies, which ſhal ſpoyle them, and take them awaie and carie them to Babél.

6.And thou Paſhúr, & all that dwell in thine houſe, ſhal go into captiuitie, and thou ſhalt come to Babél, and there thou ſhalt dye, and ſhalt be buryed there, thou & all thy ^bfriends, to whome thou haſt prophecied lies.

7.O Lord, thou haſt deceiued me, and I am ^cdeceiued: thou art ſtronger then I, and haſt ^dpreuailed: I am in deriſion daiely: euerie one mocketh me.

8.For ſince I ſpake, I cryed out of wrong, and proclaimed ^edeſolation: therefore the worde of the Lord was made a reproche vnto me, and in deriſion daiely.

9.Then I ſaid, I wil not make mencion of him, nor ſpeake any more in his Name. But his worde was in mine heart as a burning fyre ſhut vp in my bones, and I was wearie with forbeareing, & I colde not ^fſtay.

10.For I had heard the railing of many, & feare on euerie ſide. Declare, ſaid thei, & we wil declare it: all my familiars watched for mine halting, ^gſaying, It may be that he is deceiued: ſo we ſhal preuaile againſt him, and we ſhal execute our vengeance vpon him.

11.But the Lord is with me like a mightie gyant: therefore my perſecuters ſhal be ouerthrowen, and ſhal not preuaile, & ſhal be greatly confounded: for they haue done vnwifely, and their euerlaſting ſhame ſhal neuer be forgotten.

12.^*But, ô Lord of hoſtes, that tryeſt the righteous, & ſeeſt the reines & the heart, let me ſe thy vengeance on them: for vnto thee haue I opened my cauſe.

13.Sing vnto the Lord, praiſe ye the Lord: for he hathe deliuered the ſoule of the poore from the hand of the wicked.

14.¶ ^*Curſed ^hbe the day wherein I was borne: & let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be bleſſed.

15.Curſed be the man, that ſhewed my father, ſaying, A man childe is borne vnto thee, and comforted him.

16.And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hathe ouerturned and repented not: & let him heare the crye in the morning, and the ſhowting at noone tide,

17.Becauſe he hathe not ſlayne me, euen fro the wombe, or that my mother might haue bene my graue, or her wombe a perpe tual ^kconception.

18.How is it, that I came forthe of the wombe, to ſe labour and ſorowe, that my daies ſhulde be conſumed with ſhame?
