Exodus 13

The firſtborne are offred to God. 3 The memorial of their deliuerance. 8,14 An exhortacion to teache their children to remembre this deliuerance. 17 Why they are led by the wildernes. 19 The bones of Ioſeph. 21 The piller of the cloude and of the fire.
.ANd the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
.* Sanctifie vnto me all the firſtborne: that is, euerie one that firſt openeth the wombe among the children of Iſraél, as wel of man as of beaſt: for it is mine.
.¶Then Moſés ſaid vnto the people, * Remembe this day in the which ye came out of out of a Egypt, out of the " houſe of a bondage : for by a mightie hand the Lord broght you out from thence : therefore no leauened bread ſhalbe b eaten.
.This day come ye out in the moneth of c Abíb.
.¶ Now whē the Lord hathe broght thee into the land of the Canaanites, and Hittites, and Amorites, and Hiuites, and Iebuſites (which he ſware vnto thy fathers, that he wolde giue thee, a land flowing with milke and hony) thé thou ſhalt kepe this ſeruice in this moneth.
.Seuen daies ſhalt thou eat vnleauened bread, & the d ſeuenth day ſhalbe the feaſt of the Lord.
.Vnleauened bread ſhalbe eaten ſeuen daies, & there ſhal no leauened bread be ſene with thee, nor yet leauē be ſene with thee in all thy quarters.
.¶ And thou ſhalt ſhewe thy ſonne e in yͧ day, ſaying, This is done, becauſe of that which the Lord did vnto me, whē I came out of Egypt.
.And it ſhal be a ſigne vnto thee f vpon thine hand, & for a remébrance betwene thine eies, that the Lawe of the Lord may be in thy mouth: for by a ſtrong hand the Lord broght thee out of Egypt.
.Kepe therefore this ordinance in his ſeaſon appointed from yere to yere.
.¶ And when the Lord ſhal bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he ſware vnto thee and to thy fathers, & ſhal giue it thee,
.* Then yͧ ſhalt ſet a parte vnto the Lord all that firſt openeth the wombe: alſo euerie thing that firſt doeth opē the wombe, & commeth forthe of thy beaſt: the males ſhalbe the Lords.
.But euerie firſt fole of an g aſſe, yͧ ſhalt redeme with a lambe : and if thou redeme him not , then thou ſhalt breake his necke : likewiſe all the firſt borne of man among thy ſonnes ſhalt thou h buye out.
.¶ And when thy ſonne ſhal aſke thee " tomorowe, ſaying, What is this? thou ſhalt then ſay vnto him, With a mightie hand the Lord broght vs out of Egypt, out of the houſe of bondage.
.For when Pharaóh was hard hearted againſt our departing, the Lord thé ſlewe all the firſtborne in the lād of Egypt: frō the firſtborne of man euē to the firſtborne of beaſt: therefore I ſacrifice vnto yͤ Lord all the males that firſt open the wōbe, but all the firſtborne of my ſonnes I redeme.
.And it ſhalbe as a token vpon thine hand, & as " frontlets betwene thine eies, that the Lord broght vs out of Egypt by a mightie hand.
.¶ Now whē Pharaóh had let the people go, God caried thē not by the way of the Philiſtíms countrey, " thogh it were nerer: (for God ſaid, Leſt yͤ people repent whē thei ſe i warre, & turne againe to Egypt)
.But God made the people to go about by yͤ way of the wildernes of the red Sea: and the childrē of Iſraél went vp k armed out of the land of Egypt.
.(And Moſés toke the bones of Ioſéph with him: for he had made the childrē of Iſraél ſweare, ſaying, * God wil ſurely viſite you, and ye ſhal take my bones away hence with you)
.¶ So thei toke their iourney from Suc-cóth, and camped in Ethám in the edge of the wildernes.
.* And the Lord went before thē by day in a piller of a l cloude to leade them the way, & by night in a piller of fyre to giue them light, that thei might go bothe by day and by night.
.* He toke not away the piller of the clou-de by day, nor the piller of fyre by night from before the people.
