Genesis 48

Ioſeph with his two ſonnes viſiteth his ſicke father. 3. Iaakob rehearſeth Gods promes. 5 He receiueth Ioſephs ſonnes as his. 19 He preferreth the yonger. 21 He prophecieth their returne to Canaan.
.AFter theſe things, one ſaid to Ioſeph, Lo, thy father is ſicke: then he toke ŵ hī his a two ſonnes, Manaſſéh & Ephráim.
.Alſo one tolde Iaakób, & ſaid, Beholde, thy ſonne Ioſeph is come to thee, and Iſrael raél toke his ſtrength vnto him and ſate vpon the bed.
.Then Iaakób ſaid vnto Ioſeph, God al- * mightie appeared vnto me at * Luz in the land of Canáan, and bleſſed me.
.And he ſaid vnto me, Beholde, I wil ma-ke thee fruteful, and wil multiplie thee, & wil make a great * nõbre of people of thee, and wil giue this land vnto thy ſede after thee for an b euerlaſting poſſeſſion.
.And now thy two ſonnes, Manaſſéh & Ephráim, which are borne vnto thee in yt land of Egypt, before I came to thee into Egypt, ſhalbe mine, as Reubén and Simeón are mine.
.But thy lignage, which thou haſt begot-ten after them, ſhalbe thine: they ſhalbe called after the names of their brethrẽ in their inheritance.
.Now whẽ I came frõ Padán, Rahél * dyed vpon mine hád in the land of Canáan, by the way when there was but halfe a daies iourney of grounde to come to Ephráth: and I buryed her there in the way to Ephráth: the ſame is Beth-léhem.
.Then Iſraél behelde Ioſephs ſonnes and ſaid, Whoſe are theſe?
.And Ioſeph ſaid vnto his father, Thei are my ſones, which c God hathe giuẽ me he-re. then he ſaid, I pray thee, bring them to me, that I may bleſſe them:
.(For the eies of Iſraél were dim for age, ſo that he colde not wel ſe) Then he cauſed them to come to him, and he kiſſed them and embraced them.
.And Iſraél ſaid vnto Ioſeph, I had not thoght to haue ſene thy face: yet lo, God hathe ſhewed me alſo thy ſede.
.And Ioſeph toke thẽ away frõ his knees, and did reuerence * downe to the ground.
.Then toke Ioſeph them bothe, Ephráim in his right hand toward Iſraels left hãd, and Manaſſéh in his left hand toward Iſ-raels right hãd, ſo he broght thẽ vnto hĩ.
.But Iſraél ſtretched out his right hand, and laid it on d Ephráims head, which was the yonger, and his left hand vpon Ma-naſſehs head (directing his hands of pur-poſe) for Manaſſéh was the elder.
.* Alſo he bleſſed Ioſeph and ſaid, The God, before whome my fathers Abrahám and Izhák did walke, the God, which ha-the fed me all my life long vnto this day,
.The e Angel, which hathe deliuered me from all euil, bleſſe the children, and let my f name be named vpon them, and the name of my fathers Abrahám and Izhák, that they may growe as fiſh into a multi-tude in the middes of the earth.
.But whẽ Ioſeph ſawe that his father laid his right hãd vpõ the head of Ephráim, it g diſpleaſed him: and he ſtayed his fathers hand to remoue it from Ephraims head to Manaſſehs head.
.And Ioſeph ſaid vnto his father, Not ſo my father, for this is yt eldeſt. put thy right hand vpon his head.
.But his father refuſed, and ſaid, I knowe wel, my ſonne, I knowe wel: he ſhalbe alſo a people, & he ſhalbe great likewiſe: but his yonger brother ſhalbe greater thé he, and his ſede ſhalbe ful of nations.
.So he bleſſed them that day, and ſaid, In thee Iſraél ſhal bleſſe, and ſay, God make thee as h Ephráim and as Manaſſéh. & he ſet Ephráim before Manaſſéh.
.Then Iſraél ſaid vnto Ioſeph, Beholde, I dye, and God ſhalbe with you, & bring you againe vnto the land of i your fathers.
.Moreouer, I haue giuen vnto thee one porcion aboue thy brethrẽ, which k I gate out of the hand of the Amorite by my ſworde & by my bowe.
