2 Ioſeph accuſeth his brethren. 5 He dreameth and is hated of his brethren. 28 They ſel him to the Iſhmaelites. 34 Iaakób bewaileth Ioſeph.
1.IAakób now dwelt in the land, wherein his father was a ſtranger, in the lãd of Canáan.
2.Theſe are the a generacions of Iaakób, when Ioſeph was ſeuententh yere olde: he kept ſhepe with his brethrẽ, & the childe was with the ſonnes of Bilháh, and with the ſonnes of Zilpáh, his fathers wiues. And Ioſeph broght vnto their father their euil " b ſaying.
3.Now Iſraél loued Ioſeph more then all his ſonnes, becauſe he begate him in his olde age, and he made him a coat of manie colours. olde age, and he made him a coate of ma- ny " colours.
4.So when his brethren ſawe that their fa- ther loued him more then all his brethre, then thei hated him, and colde not ſpeake peaceably vnto him.
5.¶ And Ioſéph c dreamed a dreame, and tolde his brethren, who hated him ſo muche the more.
6.For he ſaid vnto thē, Heare, I pray you, this dreame which I haue dreamed.
7.Beholde now, we were binding ſheues in ye middes of the field: & lo, my ſhefe aroſe and alſo ſtode vpright, & beholde, your ſheues compaſſed rounde about, and did reuerence to my ſhefe.
8.Then his brethren ſaid to him, What, ſhalt thou reigne ouer vs, and rule vs? or ſhalt thou haue altogether dominió ouer vs? And thei d hated him ſo muche the more, for his dreames, & for his wordes.
9.¶ Againe he dreamed an other dreame, & tolde it his brethren, & ſaid, Beholde, I haue had one dreame more, and beholde, the ſunne and the moone and eleuen ſtar- res did reuerence to me.
10.Then he tolde it vnto his father & to his brethren, and his father e rebuked him, & ſaid vnto him, What is this dreame, which thou haſt dreamed? ſhal I, & thy mother, and thy brethren come in dede and fall on the grounde before thee?
11.And his brethren enuied him, but his fa- ther " f noted the ſaying.
12.¶ Then his brethren went to kepe their fathers ſhepe in Shechém.
13.And Iſraél ſaid vnto Ioſéph, Do not thy brethren kepe in Shechém? come & I wil ſend thee to them.
14.And he anſwered him, I am here. Then he ſaid vnto him, Go now, ſe whether it be wel with thy brethren, and how the floc- kes proſper, and bring me worde againe. ſo he ſent him from the vale of Hebrón, and he came to Shechém.
15.¶ Then a man founde him: for lo, he was wandring in the field, and the man aſked him, ſaying, What ſekeſt thou?
16.And he anſwered, I ſeke my brethren: tel me, I pray thee, where they kepe ſhepe.
17.And the man ſaid, Thei are departed hence: for I heard them ſay, Let vs go vn- to Dothán. Then went Ioſéph after his brethren, and found them in Dothán.
18.And when thei ſaw him a far of, euen before he came at them, thei g conſpired againſt him for to ſlaie him.
19.For thei ſaid one to an other, Beholde, this " dreamer commeth.
20.Come now therefore, & let vs ſlaie him, and caſt him into ſome pit, & we wil ſay, A wicked beaſt hathe deuoured him: thē we ſhal ſe, what wil come of his dreames.
21.* But whe Reubén heard that, he deliue- red him out of their hands, & ſaid, " Let vs not kil him.
22.Alſo Reubén ſaid vnto them, Shed not blood, but caſt him into this pit that is in the wildernes, & lay no hand vpon him. Thus he ſaid, that he might deliuer him out of their hand, and reſtore him to his fa- ther againe.
23.¶ Now when Ioſéph was come vnto his brethré, thei ſtript Ioſéph out of his coat, his particoloured coate yt was vpon him.
24.And thei toke him, & caſt h hī into a pit, & the pit was empty, without water in it.
25.Then thei ſat them downe to eat bread: and thei lift vp their eies and loked, and beholde, there came a company of Iſhme- elites from Gileád, and their camels ladé with ſpicerie, and roſen, and myrrhe, and were going to carie it downe into Egypt.
26.Thē Iudáh ſaid vnto his brethrē, What auaileth it, if we ſlaie our brother, thogh we kepe his blood ſecret?
27.Come and let vs ſel him to the Iſhmee- lites, and let not our hands be vpon him: for he is our brother, & our fleſh: and his brethren obeied.
28.Thē the * Midianites marchāt men paſ- ſed by, and thei drewe forthe, and lift Io- ſéph out of the pit, and ſolde Ioſéph vnto the i Iſhmeelites for twentie pieces of ſil- uer: who broght Ioſéph into Egypt.
29.¶ Afterward Reubén returned to ye pit, and beholde, Ioſéph was not in the pit: thē he rent his clothes,
30.And returned to his brethrē, & ſaid, The childe is not yōder, & I, whether ſhal I go?
31.And thei toke Ioſephs coate, and killed a kid of the goates, and depped the coate in the blood.
32.So thei ſent that particoloured coate, k and thei broght it vnto their father, & ſaid, This haue we foūde: ſe now, whether it be thy ſonnes coate, or no.
33.Then he knew it and ſaid, It is my ſon- nes coat: a wicked beaſt hathe * deuoured him: Ioſéph is ſurely torne in pieces.
34.And Iaakób rēt his clothes, & put ſack- cloth about his loynes, & ſorowed for his ſonne a long ſeaſon.
35.Then all his ſonnes & all his daughters roſe vp to cõforte him, but he wolde not be comforted, but ſaid, "Surely I wil go downe into ye graue vnto my ſone mour- ning: ſo his father wept for him.
36.And the Midianites ſolde him into E- gypt vnto Potiphár l an Eunuche of Pha- raohs, and his " chief ſtuarde.
