Genesis 34

for his ſonne. 22 The Shechemites are circumciſed at the requeſt of Iaakobs ſonnes, and the perſuaſion of Hamor 25 The whoredome is reuenged. 28 Iaakob reproueth his ſonnes.
1.a THen Dináh the daughter of Leáh, which ſhe bare vnto Iaakób, wét out to ſe the daughters of that countrey.
2.Whome when Shechém the ſonne of Hamór the Hiuite lord of that coūtrie ſawe, he toke her, and lay ŵ her, & " defiled her.
3.So his heart claue vnto Dináh ẏ daughter of Iaakób: and he loued the maide, & ſpake " kındely vnto the maide.
4.Thé ſaid Shechém to his father Hamór, ſaying, b Get me this maide to wife.
5.(Now Iaakób heard that he had defiled Dináh his daughter, and his ſonnes were with his cattel in ẏ field: therefore Iaakób helde his peace, vntil they were come)
6.¶ Then Hamór the father of Shechém went out vnto Iaakób to commune with him.
7.And when the ſonnes of Iaakób were come out of the field and heard it, it grieued the men, & they were very angrie, becauſe he had wroght " vilennie in Iſraél, in that he had lié with Iaakobs daughter: which thing oght not to be done " .
8.And Hamór cómuned with them, ſaying, The ſoule of my ſonne Shechém longeth for your daughter: giue her him to wife, I pray you.
9.So make " affinitie ŵ vs: giue your daughters vnto vs, and take our daughters vnto you,
10.And ye ſhal dwel with vs, and the land ſhal be before you: dwel, and do your buſines in it, and haue your poſſeſſions therein.
11.Shechém alſo ſaid vnto her father and vnto her brethren, " Let me finde fauour in your eies, and I wil giue whatſoeuer ye ſhal appoint me.
12." Aske of me abundantly bothe dowrie and giftes, & I wil giue as ye appoint me, ſo that ye giue me the maide to wife.
13.Thé the ſonnes of Iaakób anſwered Shechém and Hamór his father, talking among them ſelues deceitfully, becauſe he had defiled Dináh their ſiſter,
14.And they ſaid vnto them, c We can not do this thing, to giue our ſiſter to an vncircumciſed man: for that were a d reproche vnto vs.
15.But in this wil we conſent vnto you, if ye wil be as we are, that euerie mā childe among you be e circumciſed:
16.Then wil we giue our daughters to you, and we wil take your daughters to vs, and wil dwel with you, and be one people.
17.But if ye wil not hearken vnto vs to be circumciſed, then wil we take our daughter & departe.
18.Now their wordes pleaſed Hamór, and Shechém Hamors ſonne.
19.And the yong man deferde not to do the thig becauſe he loued Iaakobs daughter: he was alſo the moſte ſet by of all his fathers houſe.
20.¶ Then Hamór and Shechém his ſonne went vnto the f gate of their citie, & communed with the men of their citie, ſaying,
21.Theſe men are g peaceable with vs: & they may dwel in the land, and do their affaires therein (for beholde, the land hathe roume ynough for them) let vs take their daughters to wiues, and giue them our daughters.
22.Onely herein wil ẏ men conſent vnto vs for to dwel with vs, and to be one people, if all the men childrē among vs be circūciſed as they are circumciſed.
23.Shal not h their flockes and their ſubſtāce and all their cattel be ours? onely let vs conſent herein vnto thē, and they wil dwel with vs.
24.And vnto Hamór, & Shechém his ſonne hearkened all that went out of the gate of his citie: and all the men children were circumciſed, euen all that went out of the gate of his citie.
25.And on the third day (when they were ſore) two of the ſonnes of Iaakób, i * Si-meón and Leuí, Dinahs brethren toke ether of them his ſworde & went into the citie boldely, and flewe euerie male.
26.Thei flewe alſo Hamór and Shechém his ſonne with the k edge " of the ſworde, & toke Dináh out of Shechems houſe, and went their way.
27.Againe the other ſonnes of Iaakób came vpon the dead, and ſpoiled the citie, becauſe they had defiled their ſiſter.
28.Thei toke their ſhepe, and their beues, and their aſſes, and whatſoeuer was in the citie, and in the fields.
29.Alſo they caried away captiue and ſpoiled all their goods, and all their children and their wiues, and all that was in the houfes.
30.Then Iaakób ſaid to Simeón and Leuí, Ye haue troubled me, & made me " ſtinke among the inhabitants of the land, aſwel the Canaanites, as the Perizzites, and I being fewe in nombre, they ſhal gather them ſelues together againſt me, and ſlay me, and ſo ſhal I, and my houſe be deſtroyed.
31.And they anſwered, Shulde he abuſe our ſiſter as a whore?
