Genesis 32

God cõforteth Iaakób by his Angels. 9.10 He praieth vnto God confeſſing his vnworthines. 13 He ſendeth preſentes vnto Eſau. 24 28 He wreſtled with the Angel who nameth him Iſrael.
.NOw Iaakób wẽt forthe on his iourney & the Angels of God met him.
.And when Iaakób ſawe them, he ſaid, a This is Gods hoſt, & called the name of the ſame place " Mahanaim.
.Then Iaakób ſent meſſengers before him to Eſau his brother, vnto the land of Seír into the countrey of Edóm:
.To whome he gaue commandemẽt, ſaying, Thus ſhal ye ſpeake to my b lord Eſau: Thy ſeruant Iaakób ſaith thus, I haue bene a ſtranger with Labán & taried vnto this time.
.I haue beues alſo & aſſes, ſhepe, & men ſeruantes, and women ſeruantes, and haue ſent to ſhewe my lord, that I may finde grace in thy ſight.
.¶ So the meſſengers came againe to Iaakób, ſaying, We came vnto thy brother Eſau, and he alſo commeth againſt thee and foure hundreth men with him.
.Then Iaakób was c greatly afraid, and was ſore troubled, & deuided the people that was with him, and the ſhepe, and the beues, and the camels into two cõpanies.
.For he ſaid, If Eſau come to the one companie and ſmite it, the other companie ſhal eſcape.
.¶ Moreouer Iaakób ſaid, O God of my father Abrahám, and God of my father Izhák: Lord, which ſaideſt vnto me, Returne vnto thy countrei & to thy kinred, and I wil do thee good,
.I am not " worthie of the leaſt of all the mercies & all the trueth, which thou haſt ſhewed vnto thy ſeruant: For wt my d ſtaffe came I ouer this Iordén, and now haue I gotten two bandes.
.I pray thee, Deliuer me from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Eſau: for I feare him, leſt he wil come and ſmite me, and the e mother vpon the children.
.For ÿ ſaideſt, I wil ſurely do thee good, and make thy ſede as the ſand of the ſea, which can not be nõbred for multitude.
.¶ And he taried there the ſame night, & toke of that which came to hand, a f preſente for Eſau his brother:
.Two hũdreth ſhe goates and twenty he goates, two hundreth ewes and twentie rammes:
.Thirty milche camels with their coltes, fourtie kine, & ten bullockes, twẽtie ſhe aſſes and ten foles.
.So he deliuered them into the hand of his ſeruãtes, euerie droue by them ſelues, & ſaid vnto his ſeruants, Paſſe before me, and put a ſpace betwene droue & droue.
.And he commanded the formeſt, ſaying, If Eſau my brother mete thee, and aſke thee, ſaying, Whoſe ſeruant art thou? & whither goeſt thou? and whoſe are theſe before thee?
.Then thou ſhalt ſay, they be thy ſeruant Iaakobs: it is a preſent ſent vnto my lord Eſau: and beholde, he him ſelfe alſo is behinde vs.
.So likewiſe commanded he the ſeconde & the third, & all that followed the droues, ſaying, After this maner, ye ſhal ſpeake vnto Eſau, when ye finde him.
.And ye ſhal ſay moreouer, Beholde, thy ſeruant Iaakób commeth after vs (for he thoght, I g wil appeaſe his wrath with the preſent that goeth before me, and afterward I wil ſe his face: it may be that he wil " " accept me)
.So went the preſent before him: but he taried that night with the companie.
.And he roſe vp the ſame night, and toke his two wiues, and his two maides, and his eleuẽ children, & went ouer the forde Iabbók.
.And he toke them, & ſent them ouer the riuer, & ſent ouer that he had.
.¶Whe Iaakób was left him ſelfe alone, there wreſtied a h man with him vnto the breaking of the day.
.And he ſawe that he colde not i preuaile againſt him: therefore he touched ye holow of his thigh, & the holow of Iaakobs thigh was loſed, as he wreſtled with him.
.And he ſaid, Let me go, for ye morning appeareth. Who anſwered, * I wil not let thee go except thou bleſſe me.
.Then ſaid he vnto him, What is thy name? And he ſaid, Iaakób.
.Then ſaid he, * Thy name ſhal be called Iaakób no more, but Iſraél: becauſe thou haſt had k power with God, thou ſhalt alſo preuaile with men.
.Then Iaakób demáded, ſaying, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he ſaid, Wherefore now doeſt thou aſke my name? And he bleſſed him there.
.And Iaakób called the name of the place, Peniél: for, ſaid he, I haue ſene God face to face, and my " life is preſerued.
.And the ſunne roſe to him as he paſſed Peniél, and he l halted vpon his thigh.
.Therefore the children of Iſraél eat not of the ſinew that ſhranke in the holow of the thigh, vnto this day: becauſe he touched the ſinew that ſhranke in the holow of Iaakobs thigh.
