Genesis 15

1 The Lord is Abrams defence and rewarde. 6 He is iuſtified by faith. 13 The ſeruitude and deliuerance out of Egypt is declared. 18 The land of Canáan is promiſed the fourth time.
1." AFter theſe things, ye worde of ye Lord came vnto Abrám in a * viſiõ, ſaying, Feare not, Abrám, I am thy buckler, and thine exceeding * great rewarde.
2.And Abrám ſaid, a O Lord God, what wilt thou giue me, ſeing I go childeles, and the ſtuarde of mine houſe is this Eliézer of Damaſcus?
3.Againe Abrám ſaid, Beholde, to me thou haſt giuen no ſede: wherfore lo, a ſeruant of mine houſe ſhalbe mine heire.
4.Then beholde, the worde of ye Lord came vnto him, ſaying, He ſhal not be thine heire, but one that ſhal come out of thine owne bowelles, he ſhalbe thine heire.
5.Moreouer he broght him forthe and ſaid, * Loke vp now vnto heauen, & tel the ſtarres, if thou be able to nombre them: and he ſaid vnto him, So ſhal thy ſede be.
6.And Abrám * beleued the Lord, and he counted that to him for righteouſnes.
7.Againe he ſaid vnto him, I am the Lord, that broght thee out of * Vr of the Caldees, to giue thee this land to inherit it.
8.And he ſaid, O Lord God, b whereby ſhal I knowe that I ſhal inherit it?
9.Then he ſaid vnto him, Take me an heyfer of thre yeres olde, and a ſhe goate of thre yeres olde, and a ramme of thre yeres olde, a turtel doue alſo and a pigeon.
10.So he toke all theſe vnto him, & c diuided them in the middes, and laied euerie pece one againſt an other: but the birdes diuided he not.
11.Then foules fel on the carkaſes, and Abrám droue them awaie.
12.And when the ſunne went downe, there fel an heauie ſlepe vpon Abrám: & lo, " a verie feareful darcknes fel vpon him.
13.Then he ſaid to Abrám, * Knowe this of a ſuretie, that thy ſede ſhal be a ſtranger in a land, that is not theirs, d foure hundreth yeres, and ſhal ſerue them: and thei ſhal entreate them euil.
14.Notwithſtanding the nacion, whome thei ſhal ſerue, wil I iudge: and afterward ſhal thei come out with great ſubſtance.
15.But ye ſhalt go vnto thy fathers in peace, and ſhalt be buryed in a good age.
16.And in the " fourthe generació thei ſhal come hether againe : for the e wickednes of the Amorites is not yet ful.
17.Alſo when the ſunne went downe, there was a darckenes: & beholde, a ſmoking fornace, and a firebrāde, which went betwene thoſe peces.
18.* In that ſame day the Lord made a co-uenant with Abrám, ſaying, Vnto thy ſede haue I giuen this land, * from the riuer of Egypt vnto the great riuer, the riuer " Eu-phiates.
19.The Kenites, & the Kenizites, & yͤ Kad-monites,
20.And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, & the Rephaíms,
21.The Amorites alſo, & the Canaanites & the Girgaſhites, and the Iebuſites.
