Samuel 2

The ſong of Hannáh 12 The ſonnes of Elí, wicked. 13 The newe cuſtome of the Prieſts 18 Samuél mini-ſtreth before the Lord 20 Elí bleſſeth Elkanáh and his wife 23 Elí reproueth his ſonnes 27 God ſendeth a Prophet to Elí. 31 Elí is menaced for not chaſtiſing his children.
.ANd Hannáh a praied, & ſaid, Mine heart reioyceth in the Lord, mine b horne is exalted in ye Lord: my mouth is c enlarged ouer mine enemies, becauſe I reioyce in thy ſaluacion.
.There is none holy as the Lord: yea, the-re is none beſides thee, & there is no God like our God.
.Speake d no more preſumpteouſly: let not arrogancie come out of your mouth: for the Lord is a God of knowledge, and by him enterpriſes are eſtabliſhed.
.The bowe & the mightie men are bro-ken, and the weake haue girde them ſel-ues with ſtrength.
.Thei that were ful, are hired forthe for e bread, & the hongrie are no more hired, ſo that the baren hathe borne " ſeuen: and ſhe that had many children, is feble.
.* The Lord killeth and maketh aliue: bringeth downe to the graue and rai-ſeth vp.
.The Lord maketh poore and maketh riche: bringeth lowe, and exalteth.
.* He reiſeth vp the poore out of the duſt, and lifteth vp the begger from the dong-hil, to ſet them among f princes, and to make them inherit the ſeat of glorie: for the pillers of the earth are the g Lords, and he hathe ſet the worlde vp-on them.
.He wil kepe the fete of his Sainctes, and the wicked ſhal kepe ſilence in darckenes: for in his owne might ſhal no man be ſtrong.
.The Lords aduerſaries ſhal be deſtroy-ed, and out of heauen ſhal he * thunder vpon them: the Lord ſhal iudge the ends of the worlde, and ſhal giue power vnto his h King, and exalte the horne of his Anointed.
.And Elkanáh went to Ramáh to his houſe, and the childe did miniſter vnto the Lord i before Elí the Prieſt.
.¶ Now the ſonnes of Elí were wicked men & k knewe not the Lord.
.For the Prieſts cuſtome toward the peo-ple was thus: when any mã offred ſacrifice, the Prieſts " boy came, while the fleſh was ſething and a fleſhoke with thre teth in his hand,
.And thruſt it into the kettle, or into the caldron, or into the pan, or into ye pot: l all that ye fleſhoke broght vp, the Prieſt toke fo: him ſelf: thus thei did vnto all the Iſ-raelites, that came thether to Shilóh.
.Yea, before they burnt the m fat, the Prieſts boy came and ſaid to the man that offred, Giue me fleſh to roſt for ye Prieſt: for he wil not haue ſodden fleſh of thee, but rawe.
.And if any man ſaid vnto him, Let them burne the fat according to the " cuſtome, then take as muche as thine heart n deſi-reth: then he wolde anſwer, No, but thou ſhalt giue it now: and if thou wilt not, I wil take it by force.
.Therefore the ſinne of the yong mẽ was very
.¶ Now Samuél being a yong childe miniſtred before the Lord, girded with a linnen * Ephód.
.And his mother made him a litle coate, and broght it to him from yere to yere, when ſhe came vp with her houſband, to offer the yerely ſacrifice.
.And Elí bleſſed Elkanáh and his wife, & ſaid, The Lord giue thee ſede of this woman, for "^ the peticion that ſhe asked of the Lord : and they departed vnto their place.
.And the Lord viſited Hannáh, ſo that ſhe conceiued, and bare thre ſonnes, and two daughters. And the childe Samuél grewe before the Lord.
.¶ So Elí was very olde, & heard all that his ſonnes did vnto all Iſraél, & how they laye with the women that p aſſembled at the doore of the Tabernacle of the Congregacion.
.And he ſaid vnto thē, Why do ye ſuche things? for of all this people I heare euil reportes of you.
.Do no more, my ſonnes: for it is no good reporte that I heare, which is, that ye make the Lords people to q treſpaſſe.
.If one man ſinne againſt an other, the iudge ſhal iudge it : but if a man ſinne againſt the Lord, who wil pleade for him? Notwithſtāding they obeied not the voyce of their father, becauſe yͤ Lord r wolde ſlaye them.
.¶ (Now the childe Samuél profited and grewe and was in fauour bothe with the Lord, and alſo with men)
.And there came a mā of God vnto Elí and ſaid vnto him, Thus ſaieth the Lord, Did not I plainely appeare vnto yͤ houſe of thy [ſ] father, when they were in Egypt in Pharohs houſe?
.And I choſe him out of all the tribes of Iſraél to be my Prieſt, to offer vpon mine altar, and to burne incence, and to weare an Ephód before me, and * I gaue vnto the houſe of thy father all the offrings made by fire of the children of Iſraél.
.Wherefore haue you t kiked againſt my ſacrifice and mine offring, which I cōmanded in my Tabernacle, and honoreſt thy children aboue me, to make your ſelues fat of the firſt frutes of all the offrings of Iſraél my people?
.Wherefore yͤ Lord God of Iſraél ſayth, I ſaid, yͤ thine houſe & the houſe of thy father ſhulde walke before me for euer: but nowe the Lord ſaith, u It ſhal not be ſo: for them that honour me I wil honour, and they that deſpiſe me, ſhal be deſpiſed.
.Beholde, the dayes come, that I wil cut of thine x arme, and the arme of thy fathers houſe, that there ſhal not be an olde man in thine houſe.
.And thou y ſhalt ſe thine enemie in the habitation of the Lord in all things wherewith God ſhal bleſſe Iſraél, and there ſhal not be an olde man in thine houſe for euer.
.Neuertheles, I wil not deſtroy euery one of thine frō mine altar, to make thine eyes to faile, & to make thine heart ſorowful: and all the multitude of thine houſe ſhal "^ dye when they be men.
.And this ſhalbe a ſigne vnto thee, that ſhal come vpon thy two ſonnes Hophní and Phinehás : in one day they ſhal dye bothe.
.And I wil ſterre me vp a z faithful Prieſt, that ſhal do according to mine heart and according to my minde: and I wil buylde him a ſure houſe, and he ſhal walke before mine Anoynted for euer.
.And all that are left in thine houſe, ſhal come and a bowe downe to him for a piece of ſiluer and a morfel of bread, and ſhal ſay, Appoint me, I pray thee, to one of the Prieſts offices, that I may eat a morſel of bread.
