Numbers 35

2 Unto the Leuites are giuen cities and suburbes. 11 The cities of refuge 16 The lawe of murther. 30 For one mans witnes shal no man be condemned.
1.ANd the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés in ye plaine of Moáb by Iordén, toward Ierichó, ſaying,
2.* Commande the children of Iſraél, that they giue vnto the a Leuites of the inheritance of their poſſeſſion, b cities to dwel in: ye ſhal giue alſo vnto the Leuites the ſuburbes of the cities round about them.
3.So they ſhal haue the cities to dwel in, & their ſuburbes ſhalbe for their cattel, and for their ſubſtance, & for all their beaſtes.
4.And the ſuburbes of the cities, which ye ſhal giue vnto the Leuites, from the wall of the citie outwarde, ſhalbe a thouſand cubites round about.
5.And ye ſhal meaſure without the citie of the Eaſtſide, c two thouſand cubites: and of the Southſide, two thouſand cubites: & of the Weſtſide, two thouſand cubites: & of the Northſide, two thouſand cubites: & the citie ſhalbe in the middes. this ſhalbe the meaſure of the ſuburbes of their cities.
6.And of the cities which ye ſhal giue vnto the Leuites, * there ſhalbe ſix cities for refuge, which ye ſhal appoint, that he which killeth, may flee thither: & to them ye ſhal adde two and fourty cities mo.
7.All the cities which ye ſhal giue to ye Leuites, ſhalbe eight and fourtie cities: them ſhal ye giue with their ſuburbes.
8.And concerning the cities which ye ſhal giue, of the poſſeſſion of the children of Iſraél: of many ye ſhal take mo, and of fewe ye ſhal take leſſe: euerie one ſhal giue of his cities vnto the Leuites, according to his inheritance, which he inheriteth.
9.¶And the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés, ſaying,
10.Speake vnto the children of Iſraél, and ſay vnto them, * When ye be come ouer Iordén into the land of Canáan,
11.Ye ſhal appoint you cities, to be cities of refuge for you, that the ſlayer, which ſlayeth anie perſone vnwares, may flee thither.
12.And theſe cities ſhalbe for you a refuge from the d auenger, that he which killeth, dye not, vntil he ſtand before the Cõgregacion in iudgement.
13.And of the cities which ye ſhal giue, ſix cities ſhal ye haue for refuge.
14.Ye ſhal appoint three e on this ſide Iordén, and ye ſhal appoint three cities in the land of Canáan which ſhalbe cities of refuge.
15.Theſe ſix cities ſhalbe a refuge for the children of Iſraél, and for the ſtranger, and for him that dwelleth among "you, that euerie one which killeth anie perſone vnwares, may flee thither.
16.* And if one f ſmite an other with an inſtrument of yron that he dye, he is a murtherer, & the murtherer ſhal dye ye death.
17.Alſo if he ſmite him by caſting a g ſtone, wherewith he may be ſlaine, and he dye, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer ſhal dye the death.
18.Or if he ſmite him with an hãd weapon of wood, wherewith he may be ſlaine, if he dye, he is a murtherer, and the murtherer ſhal dye the death.
19.The reuenger of the blood him ſelfe ſhal ſlay the murtherer: when he meteth him, he ſhal ſlay him.
20.But if he thruſt him * of hate, or hurle at him by laying of wait, that he dye,
21.Or ſmite him through enemitie with his hand, that he dye, he that ſmote him ſhal dye the death:for he is a murtherer:the reuenger of the blood ſhal ſlay the murtherer when he meteth him.
22.But if he puſhed him * vnaduiſedly, and * not of hatred, or caſt vpon him anie * thing, without laying of wait,
23.Or anie ſtone(whereby he might be ſlaine) and ſawe him not, or cauſed it to fall vpon him, and he dye, & was not his enemie, neither ſought him anie harme,
24.Then the Congregacion ſhal iudge betwene the ſlayer & the h auenger of blood according to theſe lawes.
25.And the Congregacion ſhal deliuer the flayer out of the hand of the auenger of blood, and the Congregacion ſhal reſtore him vnto the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he ſhal abide there vnto the death of the i hie Prieſt, which is anointed with the holy oyle.
26.But if the ſlayer come without the borders of the citie of his refuge, whither he was fled,
27.And the reuenger of blood finde him without the borders of the citie of his re fuge, and the reuenger of blood ſlay the k murtherer, he ſhal be giltles,
28.Becauſe he ſhulde haue remained in the citie of his refuge, vntil the death of the hye Prieſt: and after the death of the hie Prieſt: the ſlayer ſhal returne vnto ye land of his poſſeſsion.
29.So theſe things ſhalbe a l lawe of iudgement vnto you, throughout your generacions in all your dwellings.
30.Whoſoeuer killeth anie perſone, the iudge ſhal ſlay the murtherer, through * witneſſes: but * one witnes ſhal not teſtifie againſt a perſone to cauſe him to die.
31.Moreouer ye ſhal take no recompenſe for the life of ye murtherer, which is m worthie to die: but he ſhal be put to death.
32.Alſo ye ſhal take no recompenſe for him that is fled to the citie of his refuge, that he ſhuld come againe, and dwel in the land, before the death of the hie Prieſt.
33.So ye ſhal not pollute the land wherein ye ſhal dwel: for blood defileth the land: and the land can not be n clenſed of the blood that is ſhed therein, but by ye blood of him that ſhed it.
34.Defile not therefore the land which ye ſhal inhabite, for I dwel in the middes thereof: for I the Lord dwel among the children of Iſraél.
