Jeremiah 50

The prophecie of the deſtruction of Babylon, and the deliuerance of Iſrael, which was in captiuitie.
1.THe worde that the Lord ſpake, concerning Babél, & cõcerning the land of the Caldeans by the miniſterie of Ieremiáh the Prophet.
2.Declare among the nations, and publiſh it, and ſet vp a ſtandart, proclaime it & cõceile it not: ſay, Babél is taken, Bel is confoũded, Merodách is broken downe: her idoles are confoũded, and their images are burſt in pieces.
3.For out of the North there cometh vp a nation againſt her, which ſhal make her land waſte, and none ſhal dwell therein: they ſhal flee, and departe, bothe man and beaſt.
4.In thoſe dayes, and at that time, ſaith the Lord, the children of Iſraél ſhal ecome, they, and the children of Iudáh together, going, and weping ſhal they go, and ſeke the Lord their God.
5.They ſhal aſke the waye to Zión, with their faces thetherward, ſaying, Come, and let vs cleaue to the Lord in a perpetual couenant that ſhal not be forgotten.
6.My people hathe bene as loſt ſhepe: their ſhepherdes haue cauſed them to go aſtray, and haue turned them away to the mountaines: they haue gone from moũtaine to hil, & forgottẽ their reſting place.
7.All that found them, haue deuoured thẽ, and their enemies ſaid, We offend not becauſe they haue ſinned againſt the Lord, the habitation of iuſtice, euen the Lord the hope of their fathers.
8.Flee from the middes of Babél, and departe out of the land of the Caldeans, and be ye as the he goates before the flocke.
9.For lo, I wil raiſe, and cauſe to come vp againſt Babél a multitude of mightie nations from the North countrey, and thei ſhal ſet them ſelues in aray againſt her, whereby ſhe ſhalbe taken: their arrowes ſhalbe as of a ſtrong man, which is expert for none ſhal returne in vaine.
10.And Caldea ſhalbe a ſpoile: all that ſpoile her, ſhalbe ſatiſfied, ſaith the Lord.
11.Becauſe ye were glad and reioyced in deſtroying mine heritage, & becauſe ye are growen fat, as the calues in the graſſe, & neyed like ſtrong horſes,
12.Therefore your mothers ſhalbe ſore confounded, and ſhe that bare you, ſhalbe aſhamed: beholde, the vttermoſt of the nations ſhalbe a deſert, a drye land, & a wildernes.
13.Becauſe of the wrath of the Lord it ſhal not be inhabited, but ſhalbe wholy deſolate: euerie one that goeth by Babél, ſhal be aſtoniſhed, & hiſſe at all her plagues.
14.Put your ſelues in araye againſt Babél round about: all ye that bend the bowe, ſhoote at her, ſpare no arrowes: for ſhe hathe ſinned againſt the Lord.
15.Crye againſt her round about: ſhe hathe giuen her hand: her foundacions are fallē, & her walles are deſtroyed: for it is ye vengeance of the Lord: take vengeance vpon her: as ſhe hathe done, do vnto her.
16.Deſtroye the ſower from Babél, and him that handleth the ſieth in the time of harueſt: becauſe of the ſworde of the oppreſſour they ſhal turne euerie one to his people, and they ſhal flee euerie one to his owne land.
17.Iſraél is like ſcattered ſhepe: the lyons haue diſperſed them: firſt the King of Aſſhúr hathe deuoured him, & laſt this Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél hathe broke his bones.
18.Therefore thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Beholde, I wil viſite the King of Babél, and his land, as I haue viſited the King of Aſſhúr.
19.And I wil bring Iſraél againe to his habitation: he ſhal fede on Carmél and Baſhán, and his ſoule ſhalbe ſatiſfied vpon the mount Ephráim and Gileád.
20.In thoſe dayes, and at that time, ſaith the Lord, the iniquitie of Iſraél ſhalbe ſoght for, and there ſhal be none: and the ſinnes of Iudáh, & they ſhal not be found: for I wil be merciful vnto them, whome I reſerue.
21.Go vp againſt the land of the rebelles, euen againſt it, and againſt the inhabitants of Pekód: deſtroye, and lay it waſte after them, ſaith the Lord, and do according to all that I haue commanded thee.
22.A crye of battel is in the land, & of great deſtruction.
23.How is the hãmer of the whole worlde deſtroyed, and broken! how is Babél become deſolate among the nations!
24.I haue ſnared thee, and thou art taken, ô Babél, and thou waſt not aware: thou art founde, and alſo caught, becauſe thou haſt ſtriuen againſt the Lord.
25.The Lord hathe opened his treaſure, and hathe broght forthe the weapons of his wrath: for this is the worke of the Lord God of hoſtes in ye land of the Caldeans.
26.Come againſt her frõ the vtmoſt border: open her ſtore houſes: tread on her as on ſheaues, and deſtroie her vtterly: let nothing of her be left.
27.Deſtroie all her bullockes: let them go downe to the ſlaughter. Wo vnto them, for their day is come, and the time of their viſitation.
28.The voice of them that flee, and eſcape out of the land of Babél to declare in Zión ye vengeance of the Lord our God, and the vengeance of his Temple.
29.Call vp the archers againſt Babél: all ye that bend ye bowe, beſiege it rounde about: let none thereof eſcape: recompence her according to her worke, and according to all that ſhe hathe done, do vnto her: for ſhe hathe bene proude againſt the Lord, euen againſt the holy one of Iſraél.
30.Therefore ſhal her yong men fall in the ſtretes, and all her men of warre ſhalbe deſtroied in that day, ſaith the Lord.
31.Beholde, I come vnto thee, ô proude man, ſaith the Lord God of hoſtes: for thy day is come, euẽ the time that I wil viſite thee.
32.And the proude ſhal ſtomble and fall, & none ſhal raiſe him vp: and I wil kindle a fyre in his cities, and it ſhal deuoure all rounde about him.
33.Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes, The children of Iſraél, and the children of Iudáh were oppreſſed together: and all that toke them captiues, helde them, and wolde not let them go.
34.But their ſtrong redemer, whoſe Name is the Lord of hoſtes, he ſhal mainteine their cauſe, that he may giue reſt to the land, & diſquiet the inhabitants of Babél.
35.A ſworde is vpon the Caldeans, ſaith the Lord, and vpon the inhabitants of Babél, and vpon her princes, and vpon her wiſe men.
36.A ſworde is vpon the ſotheſayers, and thei ſhal dote: a ſworde is vpon her ſtrong men, and thei ſhal be afraied.
37.A ſworde is vpon their horſes and vpon their charets, and vpon all the multitude that are in the middes of her, and thei ſhal be like women: a ſworde is vpon her treaſures, and thei ſhal be ſpoiled.
38.A drought is vpon her waters, and thei ſhal be dryed vp: for it is the lãd of grauẽ images, and thei dote vpon their idoles.
39.Therefore ye Ziims with the Iims ſhal dwell there, & the oſtriches ſhal dwell therein: for it ſhal be no more inhabited, nether ſhal it be inhabited from generacion vnto generacion.
40.As God deſtroied Sodóm and Gomoráh with the places thereof nere about, ſaith the Lord: ſo ſhal no man dwell there, nether ſhal ÿ ſonne of mã remaine therein.
41.Beholde, a people ſhal come from the North, and a great natiõ, & manie Kings ſhal be raiſed vp from the coaſtes of the earth.
42.Thei ſhal holde ye bowe & the buckeler: they are cruel & vnmerciful: their voyce ſhal roare like the ſea, and they ſhal ride vpon horſes, & be put in aray like men to ye battel againſt thee, ô daughter of Babél.
43.The King of Babél hathe heard the report of them, and his hands waxed feble: ſorowe came vpon him, euen ſorowe as of a woman in trauail.
44.Beholde, he ſhal come vp like a lyon fró the ſwelling of Iordén vnto the ſtrõg habitation: for I wil make Iſraél to reſt, & I wil make them to haſte away from her: and who is a choſen man that I may appoint againſt her? for who is like me, & who wil appoint me the time? and who is the ſhepherd that wil ſtãnd before me?
45.Therefore heare the coũſel of the Lord that he hathe deuiſed againſt Babél, and his purpoſe yt he hathe conceiued againſt the land of the Caldeans: ſurely the leaſt of the flocke ſhal drawe them out: ſurely he ſhal make their habitatió deſolate wt thẽ.
46.At the noyſe of the winning of Babél the earth is moued, and the crye is heard among the nations.
