Jeremiah 48

The worde of the Lord againſt the Moabites, 26 Becauſe of their pride and crueltie.
.COncerning Moáb, thus ſaith ye Lord of hoſtes, the God of Iſraél, Wo vnto Nebó: for it is waſted: Kiriatháim is confounded & taken: Miſgáb is confounded and afraied.
.Moáb ſhal boaſt no more of Heſhbón: for thei haue deuiſed euil againſt it. Come, and let vs deſtroye it, that it be no more a nacion: alſo thou ſhalt be deſtroyed, ô Madmén, and the ſworde ſhal purſue thee.
.A voice of crying ſhalbe from Horonáim with deſolacion & great deſtruction.
.Moáb is deſtroyed: her litle ones haue cauſed their crye to be heard.
.For at the going vp of Luhíth, the mourner ſhal go vp with weping: for in ye going downe of Horonáim, the enemies haue heard a crye of deſtruction,
.Flee and ſaue your liues, and be like vnto the heath in the wildernes.
.For becauſe thou haſt truſted in thy workes and in thy treaſures, thou ſhalt alſo be taken, and Chemóſh ſhal go forthe into captiuitie with his Prieſts and his princes together.
.And ye deſtroier ſhal come vpon all cities, & no citie ſhal eſcape: the valley alſo ſhal periſh and the plaine ſhalbe deſtroied as the Lord hathe ſpoken.
.Giue wings vnto Moáb, that it may flee and get away: for the cities thereof ſhalbe deſolate, without any to dwell therein.
.Curſed be he that doeth the worke of ye Lord negligently, and curſed be he that kepeth backe his ſworde from blood.
.Moáb hathe bene at reſt from his youth, and he hathe ſetled on his lees, & hathe not bene powred from veſſel to veſſel, neither hathe he gone into captiuitie: therefore his taſte remained in him and his ſent is not changed.
.¶ Therefore beholde, ye daies come, ſaith the Lord, that I wil ſend vnto him ſuche as ſhal cary him away, and ſhal emptie his veſſels, and breake their bottels.
.And Moáb ſhal be aſhamed of Chemóſh as the houſe of Iſraél was aſhamed of Beth-él their confidence.
.How thinke you thus, We are mightie & ſtrong men of warre?
.Moáb is deſtroyed, and his cities burnt vp, & his choſen yong mē are gone downe to ſlaughter, ſaith the King, whoſe name is, The Lord of hoſtes.
.The deſtruction of Moáb is readie to come, and his plague haſteth faſt.
.All ye yt are about him, mourne for him, & all ye that knowe his name, ſay, How is the ſtrong ſtaffe broken, & the beautiful rod!
.Thou daughter that doeſt inhabite Dibón, come downe from thy glorie, & ſit in thirſt: for the deſtroyer of Moáb ſhal come vp vpon thee, and he ſhal deſtroy thy ſtrong holdes.
.Thou that dwelleſt in Aroér, ſtãd by the way, and beholde: aſke him that fleeth and that eſcapeth, & ſay, What is done?
.Moáb is confounded: for it is deſtroyed: howle, and crye, tel ye it in Arnón, that Moáb is made waſte,
.And iudgement is come vpon the plaine countrey, vpon Holón & vpon Iahazáh, and vpon Mepháath,
.And vpon Dibón, and vpon Nebó, and vpon the houſe of Diblatháim,
.And vpon Kiriatháim, and vpon Bethgamúl, and vpon Beth-meón,
.And vpon Kerioth, and vpon Bozráh, & vpon all the cities of the land of Moáb farre or nere.
.The horne of Moáb is cut of, and his arme is broken, ſaith the Lord.
.Make ye him drunken: for he magnified him ſelf againſt the Lord: Moáb ſhal wallow in his vomite, and he alſo ſhalbe in deriſion.
.For dideſt not yu deride Iſraél, as thogh he had bene founde among theues? for when thou ſpeakeſt of him, thou art moued .
.O ye that dwell in Moáb, leaue the cities, and dwell in the rockes, and be like the doue, that maketh her neſte in the ſides of the holes mouth.
.We haue heard the pride of Moáb (he is exceading proude) his ſtoutnes, and his arrogancie, and his pride, and the hautenes of his heart.
.I knowe his wrath, ſaith the Lord, but it ſhal not be ſo: & his diſſimulacions, for thei do not right.
.Therefore wil I howle for Moáb, and I wil crye out for all Moáb: mine heart ſhal mourne for the men of Kir-héres.
.O vine of Sibmáh, I wil wepe for thee, as I wept for Iazér: thy plantes are gone ouer the ſea, thei are come to the ſea of Iazér: the deſtroyer is fallen vpon thy ſommer frutes, and vpon thy vintage,
.And ioye, and gladnes is taken from the plentiful field & from the land of Moáb: and I haue cauſed wine to faile from the wine preſſe: none ſhal tread with ſhowtĩg: their ſhowting ſhalbe no ſhowting.
.Frõ the crye of Heſhbón vnto Elaléh & vnto Iaház haue thei made their noyſe from Zóar vnto Horonáim, the heiffer of thre yere olde ſhal go lowing: for the waters alſo of Nimrím ſhalbe waſted.
.Moreouer, I wil cauſe to ceaſe in Moáb, ſaith the Lord, him that offred in the high places, and him that burneth incenſe to his gods.
.Therefore mine heart ſhal ſoũd for Moáb like a ſhaume & mine heart ſhal ſoũde like a ſhaume for the men of Kir-héres, becauſe the riches that he hathe gottẽ, is periſhed.
.For euery head ſhalbe balde, and euery beard plucked: vpon all the handes ſhalbe cuttings, and vpon the loynes ſackeclothe.
.And mourning ſhalbe vpon all the houſe toppes of Moáb and in all the ſtretes thereof: for I haue brokẽ Moab like a veſſel wherein is no pleaſure, ſaith the Lord.
.Thei ſhal howle, ſaying, How is he deſtroied? how hathe Moáb turned the backe with ſhame? ſo ſhal Moab be a deriſion, & a feare to all them about him.
.For thus ſaith the Lord, Beholde, he ſhal flee as an egle, & ſhal ſpread his wings ouer Moáb.
.The cities are taken and the ſtrong holdes are wonne, & the mightie mens hearts in Moáb at that day ſhalbe as the heart of a woman in trauail.
.And Moáb ſhalbe deſtroyed from being a people, becauſe he hathe ſet vp him ſelf againſt the Lord.
.Feare, and pit and ſnare ſhalbe vpõ thee, ô inhabitant of Moáb, ſaith the Lord.
.He that eſcapeth from the feare, ſhal fall in the pit, & he that getteth vp out of the pit, ſhalbe takẽ in the ſnare: for I wil bring vpon it, euen vpon Moáb, the yere of their viſitation, ſaith the Lord.
.They that fled, ſtode vnder ye ſhadowe of Heſhbón, becauſe of the force: for a fyre came out of Heſhbón, & a flame frõ Sihón, and deuoured the corner of Moáb, and the top of the ſeditious children.
.Wo be vnto thee, ô Moáb: the people of Chemóſh periſheth: for thy ſonnes are taken captiues, and thy daughters led into captiuitie.
.Yet wil I bring againe the captiuitie of Moáb in the later daies, ſaith the Lord. Thus farre of the iudgement of Moáb.
