Jeremiah 30

1 The returne of the people from Babylon. 16 He menaceth the enemies, 18 And comforteth the Church.
1.THe worde, that came to Ieremiáh frõ the Lord, ſaying,
2.Thus ſpeaketh the Lord God of Iſraél, ſaying, Write thee all the wordes, that I haue ſpoken vnto thee in a boke.
3.For lo, the daies come, ſaith the Lord, that I wil bring againe ye captiuitie of my people Iſraél and Iudáh, ſaith the Lord: for I wil reſtore them vnto the land, that I gaue to their fathers, & they ſhal poſſeſſe it.
4.Againe, theſe are the wordes yt the Lord ſpake concerning Iſraél, and concerning Iudáh.
5.For thus ſaith the Lord, We haue heard a terrible voyce, of feare & not of peace.
6.Demande now & beholde, if man trauail with childe? wherefore do I beholde euery man with his hands on his loines as a woman in trauail, & all faces are turned into a palenes?
7.Alas, for this day is great: none hathe bene like it: it is euen the time of Iaakobs trouble, yet ſhal he be deliuered from it.
8.For in that day, ſaith the Lord of hoſtes, I wil breake his yoke from of thy necke, and breake thy bondes, and ſtrangers ſhal no more ſerue them ſelues of him.
9.But they ſhal ſerue the Lord their God, & Dauid their King, whome I wil raiſe vp vnto them.
10.Therefore feare not, ô my ſeruãt Iaakób, ſaith the Lord, nether be afraied, ô Iſraél: for lo, I wil deliuer thee from a farre countrey, and thy ſede from the land of their captiuitie, & Iaakób ſhal turne againe, & ſhalbe in reſt and proſperitie & none ſhal make him a fraid.
11.For I am with thee, ſaith the Lord, to ſaue thee, thogh I vtterly deſtroy all the nacions where I haue ſcattered thee: yet wil I not vtterly deſtroy thee, but I wil correct thee by iudgement, and not hvtterly cut thee of.
12.For thus faith the Lord, Thy bruiſing is incurable, and thy wounde is dolorous.
13.There is none to iudge thy cauſe, or to lay a plaiſter: there are no medecines, nor helpe for thee.
14.All thy llouers haue forgotten thee: thei ſeke thee not: for I haue ſtriken thee with the wounde of an enemie, & with a ſharpe chaſtiſemēt for the multitude of thine iniquities, becauſe thy ſinnes were increaſed.
15.Why cryeſt thou for thine affliction? thy ſorowe is incurable, for the multitude of thine iniquities: becauſe thy ſinnes were increaſed, I haue done theſe thigs vnto thee.
16.Therefore all they that deuoure thee, ſhal be deuoured, and all thine enemies euery one ſhal go into captiuitie: and they that ſpoyle thee, ſhalbe ſpoyled, & all thei that robbe thee, wil I giue to be robbed.
17.For I wil reſtore helth vnto thee, & I wil heale thee of thy woundes, ſaith the Lord, becauſe they called thee, The caſt away, ſaying, This is Zión, whome no man ſeketh after.
18.Thus ſaith the Lord, Beholde, I wil brīg againe the captiuitie of Iaakobs tentes, and haue compaſsion on his dwelling places: and the citie ſhalbe buylded vpon her owne heape, and the palace ſhal remaine after the maner thereof.
19.And out of them ſhal procede thankefgiuing, and the voyce of them that are ioyous, and I wil multiplie them, and thei ſhal not be fewe: I wil alſo glorifie them, and they ſhal not be diminiſhed.
20.Their childré alſo ſhalbe as afore time, and their congregacion ſhalbe eſtabliſhed before me: & I wil viſite all that vexe thé.
21.And their noble ruler ſhalbe of them ſelues, and their gouernour ſhal procede from the middes of them, and I wil cauſe him to drawe nere, and approche vnto me: for who is this that directeth his heart to come vnto me, ſaith the Lord?
22.And ye ſhalbe my people, and I wil be your God.
23.Beholde, the tépeſt of the Lord goeth forthe with wrath: the whirlewinde y hangeth ouer, ſhal light vpon the head of the wicked.
24.The fierce wrath of the Lord ſhal not returne, vntil he haue done, and vntil he haue performed the intents of his heart: in the latter daies ye ſhal vnderſtand it.

Becauſe thei ſhulde be aſſured and the ir poſteritie confirmed in the hope of this deliuerance promiſed.
5:b.
He ſheweth that before ye this deliuerãce ſhal come, the Caldeans ſhulde be extremely afflicted by their enemies, and yt they ſhulde be in ſuche perplexitie & ſorow as a woman in her trauail, as Iſa. 13, 8.

Meaning, ye the time of their captiuitie ſhulde be grĩcuous

That is, Meſſiáh, wc ſhulde come of ye ſtocke of Dauid, according to the fleſh and ſhulde be the true paſtor, as Ezek. 34, 23 who is ſet forth and his kingdome that ſhulde be euerlaſting in the perſone of Dauid, Hoſ. 3,5.

Meaning, that no man is able to finde out a meane to deliuer them, but y it muſt be the worke of God

The Aſſyrians & Egyptians whoine thou dideſt enterteine with giftes, who left thee in thine affliction.
16:l.
Herein is commended Gods great mercie toward his, who doeth not deſtroye them for their ſinnes, but correct and chaſtiſe them, til he haue purged & pardoned them, & ſo burneth the roddes by the which he did puniſh them, Iſa 33,1.
18:m.
Meaning, y the citie and the Temple ſhulde be reſtored to their former ſtate.

He ſheweth how the people ſhal with praiſe and thákefgiuing acknowledge this benefite.

Meaning, Zerubbabél, who was the figure of Chriſt: in whome this was accompliſhed

Chriſt doeth willingly ſubmit him ſelf to the obedience of God his Father

Leſt the wicked hypocrites ſhulde flat ter the ſelues with theſe promiſes, the Prophet ſheweth what ſhalbe their portion

When this Meſsiáh and deliuerer is ſent.
