.* Wherefore the people contended with Moſés, and ſaid, Giue vs water that we may drinke. And Moſés ſaid vnto them, Why contend ye with me? wherefore do ye b tempt the Lord?
.So the people thirſted there for water, & the people murmured againſt Moſés, and ſaid, Wherefore haſt thou thus broght vs out of Egypt to kil vs and our children & our cattel with thirſt?
.And Moſés cryed to the Lord, ſaying, What ſhal I do to this people? for they be almoſt ready to c ſtone me.
.And ye Lord anſwered to Moſés, Go before the people, and take with thee of the Elders of Iſraél: and thy rod, wherewith thou * ſmoteſt the riuer, take in thine hād, and go:
.* Beholde, I wil ſtād there before thee vpon the rocke in Horéb, & thou ſhalt ſmite on the rocke & water ſhal come out of it, that the people may drinke. And Moſés did ſo in the ſight of the Elders of Iſraél.
.And he called the name of the place, * Maſſáh and " Meribáh, becauſe of the contention of the children of Iſraél, and becauſe they had tempted the Lord, ſaying, Is the Lord among vs, or no?
.* Then came e Amalék and foght with Iſraél in Rephidím.
.And Moſés ſaid to Ioſhúa, Chuſe vs out men, and go fight w̃ Amalék: tomorowe I wil ſtand on the top of the f hil with the rod of God in mine hand.
.So Ioſhúa did as Moſés bade hī, & foght with Amalék: & Moſés, Aarón, and Hur, went vp to the top of the hil.
.And when Moſés held vp his hand, Iſraél preuailed: but when he let his hand g downe, Amalék preuailed.
.Now Moſés hāds were heauy: therefore they toke a ſtone and put it vnder him, & he ſate vpon it: and Aarón & Hur ſtaied vp his hands, the one on the one ſide, and the other on the other ſide: ſo his hands were ſteady vntil the going downe of the ſunne.
.And Ioſhúa diſcomfited Amalék and his people with the edge of the ſworde.
.¶ And ye Lord ſaid to Moſés, Write this for a remembrance h in the boke, and " rehearſe it to Ioſhúa: for * I wil vtterly put out the remembrance of Amalék from vnder heauen.
.(And Moſés buylte an altar and called the name of it, i Iehouáh-niſsi)
.Alſo he ſaid, " The Lord hathe ſworne, that he wil haue warre with Amalék from generacion to generacion.
