Psalm 97

* The Prophet exhorteth all to reioyce for the comming of the kingdome of Chriſt, 7 Dreadful to the rebels & idolaters, 8 And ioyful to the iuſt, whome he exhorteth to innocencie, 12 To reioycing and thankesgiuing.
1.THe Lord reigneth: let the earth reioyce: let the multitude of the yles be glad.
2.Cloudes and darkenes are round about him: righteouſnes and iudgement are the fundation of his throne.
3.There ſhal go a fyer before him, and burne vp his enemies round about.
4.His lightnĩgs gaue light vnto ye worlde: the earth ſawe it and was afraid.
5.The mountaines melted like waxe at the preſence of the Lord, at the preſence of the Lord of the whole earth.
6.The heauens declare his righteouſnes, and all the people ſe his glorie.
7.Confounded be all they that ſerue grauen images, & that glorie in idoles: worſhip him all ye gods.
8.Zión heard of it, and was glad: and the daughters of Iudáh reioyced, becauſe of thy iudgements, ô Lord.
9.For thou, Lord, art moſte high aboue all the earth: thou art muche exalted aboue all gods.
10.Ye that loue the Lord, hate euil: he preſerueth the ſoules of his Saints: he wil deliuer them from the hand of the wicked.
11.Light is ſowen for the righteous, and ioye for the vpright in heart.
12.Reioyce ye righteous in the Lord, and giue thankes for his holie remẽbrance.

For the Goſpel ſhal not be onely preached in Iudea, but through all ye iles & countreis

He is thus deſcribed to kepe his enemies in feare, which commõly contemne Gods power

This feare bringeth not the wicked to true obediẽce, but maketh thẽ to runne awaie from God

He ſignifieth yt Gods iudgements are in a readines to deſtroy the idolaters.

The Iewes ſhal haue occaſiõ to reioyce yt the Gentiles are made partakers wt them of Gods fauour
10:h.
He requireth two things of his childrẽ: the one yt thei deteſt vice, the other yt thei put their truſt in God for their deliuerance,
11:i.
Thogh Gods deliuerance appeare not ſuddenly, yet it is ſowen and laied vp in ſtore for them yt be mindful of his benefites and onely truſt in his defence.
