Psalms 76

1 This Psalme setteth forth the power of God and care for the defence of his people in Jerusalém, in the destruction of the armie of Saneheríb: 11 And exhorteth the faithful to be thankful for the same.
¶ To him that excelleth on Neginóth. A Psalme or song committed to Asáph.
1.aGod is knowen in Judáh: his Name is great in Israél.
2.For in bShalém is his Tabernacle, and his dwelling in Zión.
3.There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield and the sword and the battle. Sélah.
4.Thou art more bright & puissant, then cthe mountains of prey.
5.The stout hearted are spoiled: they have slept their sleep, and all the men of strength have not dfound their hands.
6.At thy rebuke, ô God of Jaakób, both the chariot and horse are cast a sleep.
7.Thou, even thou art to be feared: and who shal stand in thy esight, when thou art angrie!
8.Thou didest cause thy judgement to be heard from heaven: therefore the earth feared and was stil,
9.When thou, ô God, arose to judgement, to fhelp all the meek of the earth. Sélah.
10.Surely the grage of man shal turn to thy praise: the remnant of the rage shalt thou restrain.
11.Vow and perform unto the Lord your God, all ye that be hround about him: let them bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
12.He shal icut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the Kings of the earth.

He declares that God’s power is evidently seen in preserving his people and destroying his enemies.

He compares the kingdoms full of extortion and rapine to the mountains that are full of ravening beasts.

God has taken their spirits and strength from them, as though their hands were cut off.

God with a look is able to destroy all the power and activity of the enemies, were they never so many or mighty.

To revenge the wrongs done to your Church.
10-g.
For the end shall show that the enemy was able to bring nothing to pass also you shall bridle their rage, that they shall not compass their purpose.
11-h.
To wit, the Levites that dwell about the Tabernacle, or the people, among whom he does dwell.
12-i.
The Ebrewe word signifies, to vintage, or gather grapes: meaning that he shall make the counsels and enterprises of wicked tyrants foolish and vain.
