Psalms 66

1 He provoketh all men to praise the Lord and to consider his works. 6 He setteth forth the power of God to affray the rebels, 10 And sheweth how God hath delivered Israél from great bondage and afflictions. 13 He promiseth to give sacrifice, 16 And provoketh all men to hear what God hath done for him and to praise his Name.
To him that excelleth, A song, or Psalme.
1.Rejoyce in God, aall ye inhabitants of the earth.
2.Sing forth the glory of his Name: make his praise glorious.
3.Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shal thine enemies be bin subjection unto thee.
4.All the world shal worship thee, and sing unto thee, even sing of thy Name. Sélah.
5.cCome and behold the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward dthe sons of men.
6.He hath turned the Sea into dry land: they pass through the river on foot: there did we rejoyce in him.
7.He ruleth the world with his power: his eyes behold the nations: the rebellious shal not eexalt them selves. Sélah.
8.Praise our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard.
9.Which fholdeth our souls in life, & suffereth not our feet to slip.
10.For thou, ô God, hast proved us, thou hast tried us as silver is tried.
11.Thou hast brought us into the gsnare, and laied a strait chain upon our loins.
12.Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads: we went into fire & into water, but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
13.I will go into thine hHouse with burnt offerings, and wil pay thee my vows,
14.Which my lippes have promised, and my mouth hath spoken in mine affliction.
15.I wil offer unto thee the burnt offerings of fat rams with incense: I wil prepare bullocks and goats. Sélah.
16.iCome and hearken, all ye that fear God, and I wil tel you what he hath done to my soul.
17.I called unto him with my mouth, and he was exalted with my tongue.
18.kIf I regard wickedness in mine heart, the Lord wil not hear me.
19.But God hath heard me, & considered the voice of my prayer.
20.Praised be God, which hath not put back my prayer, nor his mercy from me.

Notes

1-a.
He prophecies that all nations shall come to the knowledge of God, who then was only known in Judea.
3-b.
As the faithful shall obey God willingly: so the infidels for fear shall dissemble themselves to be subject.
5-c.
He touches the slothful dullness of man, who is cold in the consideration of God’s works.
5-d.
His providence is wonderful in maintaining their estate.
7-e.
He proves that God will extend his grace also to the Gentiles, because he punishes among them such as will not obey his calling.
9-f.
He signifies some special benefit, that God had shown to his Church of the Jews in delivering them from some great danger: whereof or of the like he promises that the Gentiles shal be partakers.
11-g.
The condition of the Church is here described, which is to be led by God’s providence into troubles, to be subject under tyrants, and to enter into manifold dangers.
13-h.
The duty of the faithful is here described, which are never unmindful to render God praise for his benefits.
16-i.
It is not enough to have received God’s benefits and to be mindful thereof, but also we are bound to make others to profit thereby and praise God.
18-k.
If I delight in wickedness, God will not hear me: but if I confess it, he will receive me.
