Psalm 50

1 Becauſe the Church is alwaie ful of hypocrites, 8 Which do imagine that God wilbe worſhiped with outward ceremonies onely, without the heart: and eſpecially the Iewes were of this opinion, becauſe of their figures and ceremonies of the Law, thinking that their ſacrifices were ſufficient. 21 Therefore the Prophet doeth reproue this groſſe errour, & pronounceth the Name of God to be blaſphemed, where holines is ſet in ceremonies. 23 For he declareth the worſhip of God to be ſpiritual, whereof are two principal partes, inuocation, & thankeſgiuing.
¶ A Pſalme of Aſáph.
1.The God of gods, euen ye Lord hathe ſpoken and called the earth frõ the riſing vp of ye ſunne vnto the going downe thereof.
2.Out of Zión, which is the perfection of beautie, hathe God ſhined.
3.Our God ſhal come and ſhal not kepe ſilence: a fyre ſhal deuoure before him, & a mightie tempeſt ſhal be moued rounde about him.
4.He ſhal call the heauen aboue, and the earth to iudge his people.
5.Gather my Saints together vnto me, thoſe that make a couenant with me with ſacrifice.
6.And the heauens ſhal declare his righteouſnes: for God is Iudge him ſelf. Sélah.
7.Heare, ô my people, & I wil ſpeake: heare, ô Iſraél, and I wil teſtifie vnto thee: for I am God, euen thy God.
8.I wil not reproue thee for thy ſacrifices, or thy burnt offrings, that haue not bene cōtinually before me.
9.I wil take no bullocke out of thine houſe, nor goates out of thy foldes.
10.For all the beaſts of the foreſt are mine, and the beaſts on a thouſand mountaines.
11.I knowe all the foules on the mountaines: & the wilde beaſts of the field are mine.
12.If I be hungrie, I wil not tel thee: for the worlde is mine, and all that therein is.
13.Wil I eate the fleſh of bulles? or drinke the blood of goates?
14.Offre vnto God praiſe, & paie thy vowes vnto the moſte High,
15.And call vpon me in the daie of trouble: ſo wil I deliuer thee, & thou ſhalt glorifie me.
16.But vnto the wicked ſaid God, What haſt thou to do to declare mine ordinances, that thou ſhuldeſt take my couenant in thy mouth,
17.Seing thou hateſt to be reformed, and haſt caſt my wordes behinde thee?
18.For whē thou ſeeſt a thefe, thou runneſt with him, and thou art partaker with the adulterers.
19.Thou giueſt thy mouth to euil, & with thy tongue thou forgeſt deceite.
20.Thou ſitteſt, and ſpeakeſt againſt thy brother, and ſclandereſt thy mothers ſonne.
21.Theſe things haſt thou done, & I helde my tongue: therefore thou thoughteſt that I was like thee: but I wil reproue thee, and ſet them in order before thee.
22.Oh conſider this, ye that forget God, leſt I teare you in pieces, & there be none that can deliuer you.
23.He that offreth praiſe, ſhal glorifie me: and to him, that diſpoſeth his waie aright, wil I ſhewe the ſaluacion of God.

Which ſhulde knowe that ſacrifices are ſeales of the couenant betwene God and his people, and not ſet religion therein

For I paſſe not for ſacrifices, except ye true vſe be there, which is to cōfirme your faith in my promiſes.
10:i.
Thogh he did delite in ſacrifice, yet had he no nede of mans helpe thereunto.
13:k.
Thogh mans life for the infirmitie thereof hathe nede of fode, yet God, whoſe life quickneth all the worlde, hathe no nede of ſuche meanes.

Shew thy ſelf mindful of Gods benefites by thankeſgiuing.
16:m.
Why doeſt thou faine to be of my people and talkeſt of my couenant, ſeing thou art but an hypocrite?

And to liue according to my worde
18:o.
He ſheweth what are the frutes of them that contemne Gods word.
20:p.
He noteth the cruelties of hypocrites, wc ſpare not in their talke or iudgemēts their owne mothers ſonne.

I wil write all thy wicked dedes in a role and make thee to read & acknoledge thē whether thou wilt or no

Vnder the wc is conteined faith and inuocation.

As God hathe appointed.
23:t.
That is, declare my ſelf to be his Sauiour.
