Psalms 49

The holie Gost calleth all men to the consideration of man’s life, 7 Shewing them not to be most blessed, that are most wealthie, & therefore not to be feared: but contrary wise he lifeth up our minds to consider how all things are ruled by God’s providence: 14 Who as he judgeth these worldly misers to everlasting torments, 15 So doeth he preserve his and wil reward them in the day of the resurrection, 2 Thess. 1.6.
To him that excelleth. A psalme committed to the sonnes of Kórah.
.Hear athis, all ye people: give ear, all ye that dwell in the world,
.Aswel low as high, both rich and poor.
.My mouth shal speak of wisdom, and the meditation of mine heart is of knowledge.
.I wil incline mine ear to a parable, and utter my grave matter upon the harp.
.Wherefore should I bfear in the evil days, when iniquity shal compass me about, as at mine heels?
.They trust in their cgoods, and boast them selves in the multitude of their riches.
.Yet a man can by no means redeem his brother: he can not give his ransom to God,
.(So dprecious is the redemption of their souls, eand the continuance for ever)
.That he may live still for ever, and not see the grave.
.For he seeth that wisemen fdie, and also that the ignorant and foolish perish, and leave their riches for gothers.
.Yet they think, their houses, and their habitations shal continue for ever, even from generation to generation, and ^call their lands by their names.
.But man shal not continue in honour: he is like the hbeasts that die.
.This their way uttereth their foolishness: yet their posterity idelite in their talk. Sélah.
.kLike sheep they lie in grave: ldeath devoureth them, and the righteous shal have domination over them in the mmorning: for their beauty shal consume, when they shal go from their house to grave.
.But God shal deliver my soul from the power of the grave: ^for he will receive me. Sélah.
.Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, and when the glory of his house is increased.
.*For he shal take nothing away when he dyeth, neither shal his pomp descend after him.
.For while he lived, ^he rejoiced him self: and mmen will praise thee, when thou makest much of thy self.
.^nHe shal enter into the generation of his fathers, oand they shal not live for ever.
.Man is in honour, and punderstandeth not: he is like to beasts that perish.
