Psalms 148

1 He provoketh all creatures to praise the Lord in heaven and earth and all places, 14 Specially his Church for the power that he hathe given to the same after that he had chosen them and joined them unto him.
¶ Praise ye the Lord.
1.Praise ye the Lord from the heaven: praise ye him in the high places.
2.Praise ye him, all ye ahis Angels: praise him, all his armie.
3.Praise ye him, bsunne and moone: praise ye him all bright starres.
4.Praise ye him, cheavens of heavens, and dwaters, that be above the heavens.
5.Let them praise the Name of the Lord: for he commanded, and they were created.
6.And he hathe established them for ever and ever: he hathe made an ordinance, which shal not passe.
7.Praise ye the Lord from the earth, ye edragons and all depths:
8.fFyre and haile, snowe and vapors, stormie winde, which execute his worde:
9.Mountains and all hilles, fruteful trees and all cedres:
10.Beastes and all cattel, creaping things and feathered foules:
11.gKings of the earth and all people, princes and all judges of the worlde:
12.Yong men and maidens, also olde men and children:
13.Let them praise the Name of the Lord: for his Name only is to be exalted, and his praise above the earth and the heavens.
14.For he hathe exalted the hhorne of his people, which is a praise for all his Saints, even for the ichildren of Israél, a people that is nere unto him. Praise ye the Lord.

Notes

2-a.
Because they are members of the same body, he sets them before our eyes, which are most willing hereunto, & by their prompt obedience teach us to do our duty.
3-b.
In that God’s glory shines in these insensible creatures, this their beauty is as a continual praising of God.
4-c.
Not that there are diverse heavens, but because of the spheres and of the situation of the fixed stars and planets, he comprehends by this word the whole heaven.
4-d.
That is, the rain, which is in the middle region of the air, which he here comprehends under the name of the heavens.
7-e.
Meaning, the great and monstrous fishs, as whales and such like.
8-f.
Which come not by chance or fortune, but by God’s appointed ordinance.
11-g.
For the greater gifts that any has received, and the more high that one is preferred, the more bound is he to praise God for the same, but neither high nor low condition or degree can be exempted from this duty.
14-h.
That is, the dignity, power and glory of his Church.
14-i.
By reason of his covenant made with Abraham.
