Psalms 147

1 The Prophet praiseth the bountie, wisdom, power, justice and providence of God upon all his creatures, 2 But specially upon his Church, which he gathereth together after their dispersion, 19 Declaring his worde and judgements so unto them, as he hathe done to none other people.
1.Praise ye the Lord, for it is good to sing unto our God: for it is aa pleasant thing, and praise is comelie.
2.The Lord doeth buyld up bJerusalém, & gather together the dispersed of Israél.
3.He healeth those that are cbroken in heart, and bindeth up their sores.
4.He dcounteth the number of the starres, and calleth them all by their names.
5.Great is our Lord, and great is his power: his wisdom is infinite.
6.The Lord releveth the meke, and abaseth the wicked to the eground.
7.Sing unto the Lord with praise: sing upon the harpe unto our God,
8.Which fcovereth the heaven with cloudes & prepareth raine for the earth, and maketh the grasse to growe upon the mountains:
9.Which giveth to beastes their fode, and to the yong ravens that gcrye.
10.He hathe not pleasure in the hstrength of an horse, nether deliteth he in the legges of man.
11.But the Lord deliteth in them that feare him, and attend upon his mercie.
12.Praise the Lord, ô Jerusalém: praise thy God, ô Zión.
13.For he hathe made the barres of thy gates istrong, and hathe blessed thy children within thee.
14.He setteth peace in thy borders, and satisfieth thee with the ^flour of wheat.
15.He sendeth forthe his kcommandment upon earth, and his worde runneth verie lswiftly.
16.He giveth snow like wool, and scattereth the hoare frost like asshes.
17.He casteth forthe his yce like morsels: who can abide the colde thereof?
18.He sendeth his worde and melteth them: he causeth his winde to blowe, and the waters flowe.
19.He sheweth his mworde unto Jaakób, his statutes and his judgements unto Israél.
20.He hathe not dealt so with everie nacion, nether have they nknowen his judgements. Praise ye the Lord.

Notes

1-a.
He shows wherein we ought to exercise ourselves continually, and to take our pastime: to wit, in praising God.
2-b.
Because the Lord is the founder of the Church, it can not be destroyed, though the members thereof be dispersed, and seem, as it were, for a time to be cut off.
3-c.
With affliction or sorrow for sin.
4-d.
Though it seem to man incredible, that God should assemble his Church, being so dispersed, yet nothing can be too hard to him, that can number and name all the stars.
6-e.
For the more high that the wicked climb, the greater is their fall in the end.
8-f.
He shows by the examples of God’s mighty power, goodness and wisdom, that we can never want most just occasion to praise God.
9-g.
For their cry is as it were a confession of their need, which can not be relieved but by God only: then if God show himself mindful of the most contemptable fowls, can he suffer them to die with famine, whom he has assured of life everlasting?
10-h.
Though to use lawful means is both profitable and pleases God, yet to put our trust in them, is to defraud God of his honour.
13-i.
He does not only furnish his Church with all things necessary, but preserves also the same, and makes it strong against all outward force.
14-^.
Ebr., fat.
15-k.
His secret working in all creatures is as a commandment to keep them in order, and to give them move and force.
15-l.
For immediately and without resisting all things obey him.
19-m.
As before he called God’s secret working in all his creatures his word: so he means here, by his word, the doctrine of life everlasting, which he has left to his Church as a most precious treasure.
20-n.
The cause of this difference is God’s free mercy, which has elected his in his Son Christ Jesus to salvation: and his just judgement, whereby he has appointed the reprobate to eternal damnation.
