1 Aház an idolater is giuen into the hands of the Syriãs, and the King of Iſrael. 9 The Prophet reproueth the Iſraelites crueltie. 18 Iudáh is moleſted with enemies. 23 Aház increaſeth his idolatrie. 26 His death and ſucceſſour.

1.AHáz ^*was twentie yere olde when he began to reigne, and reigned ſixtene yere in Ieruſalém, and did not vprightly in the ſight of the Lord, like Dauid his ^"father.

2.But ^ahe walked in the wayes of y^e Kings of Iſraél and made euen molten images for ^bBaalím:

3.Moreouer he burnt incenſe in the valley of Ben-hinnóm, & ^"burnt his ſonnes with fyre, after the abominacions of the heathẽ whome the Lord had caſt out before the children of Iſraél.

4.He ſacrificed alſo and burnt incenſe in the hie places, and on hilles, and vnder euerie grene tre.

5.Wherefore the Lord his God deliuered him into the hand of the King of the Aramites, and they ſmote him, and toke of his, ^"manie priſoners, and broght them to Damaſcus: and he was alſo deliuered into the hand of the King of Iſraél, which ſmote him with a great ſlaughter.

6.For ^cPekáh the ſonne of Remaliáh, ſlewe in Iudáh ſix ſcore thouſand in one day, all ^"valiant men, becauſe they had forſaken the Lord God of their fathers.

7.And Zichrí a ^"mightie man of Ephráim ſlewe Maaſeiáh the Kings ſonne, and Azrikám the gouernour of the houſe, and Elkanáh the ſeconde after the King.

8.And the children of Iſraél toke priſoners of their brethren, ^dtwo hundreth thouſand of women, ſonnes and daughters, and caryed away muche ſpoile of them, and broght the ſpoile to Samaria.

9.¶ But there was a Prophet of the Lords, (whoſe name was Odéd) and he went out before the hoſte that came to Samaria, & ſaid vnto them, Beholde, ^ebecauſe the Lord God of your fathers is wroth with Iudáh, he hathe deliuered them into your hand, and ye haue ſlaine them in a rage, that reacheth vp to heauen.

10.And now ye purpoſe to kepe vnder the children of Iudáh and Ieruſalém, as ſeruants and handmaides vnto you: but are not you ſuche, that ^fſinnes are with you before the Lord your God?

11.Now therefore heare me, and deliuer the capitaines againe, which ye haue takẽ priſoners of your brethren: for y^e fearce wrath of the Lord is toward you.

12.Wherefore certeine of the chief of the children of ^gEphráim, Azariáh the ſonne of Iehohanán, Berechiáh the ſonne of Meſhillemóth, and Iehizkiáh the ſonne of Shallúm, and Amaſá the ſonne of Hadlái, ſtode vp againſt them that came from the warre,

13.And ſaid vnto thẽ, Bring not in the captiues hether: for this ſhalbe ^ha ſinne vpon vs againſt the Lord: ye entẽd to adde more to our ſinnes and to our treſpaſſe, thogh our treſpaſſe be great, & the fearce wrath of God is againſt Iſraél.

14.So the armie left the captiues and the ſpoile before the princes and all the Congregacion.

15.And the mẽ that were ⁱnamed by name, roſe vp and toke the priſoners, and with the ſpoile clothed all that were naked among them, and arayed them, and ſhod them, and gaue them meat and gaue them drinke, and ^kanointed them, and caryed all that were feble of them vpon aſſes, & broght them to Ierichó the citie of Palmetrees to their ^lbrethren: ſo they returned to Samaria.

16.¶ At that time did King Aház ſend vnto the ^mKings of Aſſhúr, to helpe him.

17.(For the Edomites came moreouer, and ſlewe of Iudáh, & caryed away captiues.

18.The Philiſtims alſo inuaded the cities in the lowe countrey, and towarde the South of Iudáh, and toke Bethſhémeſh and Aialón, and Gederóth and Shochó, with the villages thereof, & Timnáh, with her villages, and Gimzo, with her villages, and they dwelt there.

19.For the Lord had humbled Iudáh, becauſe of Aház King of ⁿIſraél: for he had broght vengeance vpon Iudáh and had grieuouſly tranſgreſſed againſt the Lord)

20.And Tigláth Pilneéſer King of Aſſhúr came vnto him who troubled him and did not ſtrengthen him.

21.For Aház ^"toke a porcion ^*out of the houſe of the Lord and out of the Kings houſe and of the princes, and gaue vnto y^e King of Aſſhúr: yet it helped him not.

22.And in the time of his tribulacion did he yet treſpaſſe more againſt the Lord, (this is King Aház)

23.For he ſacrificed vnto the gods of Damaſcus, which ^oplagued him, & he ſaid, Becauſe the gods of the Kings of Arám helped them, I wil ſacrifice vnto them, & they wil ^phelpe me: yet they were his ruine, and of all ^"Iſraél.

24.And Aház gathered the veſſels of the houſe of God, and brake the veſſels of the houſe of God, and ſhut vp the dores of the houſe of the Lord, and made him altars in euerie corner of Ieruſalém.

25.And in euerie citie of Iudáh he made hie places, to burne incenſe vnto other gods, and prouoked to angre the Lord God of his fathers.

26.Concerning the reſt of his actes, and all his wayes firſt and laſt, beholde, they are writen in the boke of the Kings of Iudáh, and Iſraél.

27.And Aház ſlept with his fathers, & they buryed him in the citie ^"of Ieruſalém, but broght him not vnto the ^qſepulchres of the Kings of Iſraél: and Hezekiáh his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
