3 Iehoſhaphat and the people pray vnto the Lord. 22 The maruelous victorie that the Lord gaue him againſt his enemies. 30 His reigne and actes.

1.AFter this alſo came the children of Moáb and the children of Ammón, and with them of the ^aAmmonites againſt Iehoſhaphát to battel.

2.Thē there came that tolde Iehoſhaphát, ſaying, There cometh a great multitude againſt thee from beyonde the ^bSea, out of Arám: and beholde, they be in Hazzón Tamár, which is En-gédi.

3.And Iehoſhaphát feared, and ſet him ſelfe to ^cſeeke the Lord, and proclaimed a faſt throughout all Iudáh.

4.And Iudáh gathered thēſelues together to aſke counſel of the Lord: they came euē out of all the cities of Iudáh to inquire of the Lord.

5.And Iehoſhaphát ſtode in the Congregacion of Iudáh and Ieruſalém in the houſe of the Lord before the new court,

6.And ſaid, O Lord God of our fathers, art not thou God in heauen? and reigneſt not thou on all the kingdomes of the heathē? and in thine hand is power and might, & none is able to withſtand thee.

7.Dideſt not thou our God caſt out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Iſraél, and ^dgaueſt it to the ſede of Abrahám thy friend for euer?

8.And they dwelt therein, and haue buylt thee a Sanctuarie therein for thy Name, ſaying,

9.^*If euil come vpon vs, as the ^eſworde of iudgement, or peſtilence, or famine, we wil ſtand before this houſe and in thy preſence(for thy Name ^fis in this houſe)& wil crye vnto thee in our tribulacion, and thou wilt heare and helpe.

10.And now beholde, the children of ^*Ammón and Moáb, and moūt Séi, by whome thou woldeſt not let Iſraél go, when they came out of the land of Egypt: but they turned aſide from them, and deſtroyed them not:

11.Beholde, I ſay, thei rewarde vs, in cóming to caſt vs out of thine inheritance, which thou haſt cauſed vs to inherit.

12.O our God, wilt thou not iudge thē? for there is no ſtrēgth in vs to ſtand before this great multitude that cōmeth againſt vs, nether do we know what to do: but our eyes ^gare towarde thee.

13.And all Iudáh ſtode ^hbefore the Lord with their yong ones, their wiues, and their children.

14.And Iahaziél the ſonne of Zechariáh the ſonne of Benaiáh, the ſonne of Ieiél, the ſōne of Mattaniáh, a Leuite of the ſonnes of Aſáph was there, vpon whome came the ⁱSpirit of the Lord, in the middes of the Congregacion.

15.And he ſaid, Hearken ye, all Iudáh, & ye inhabitants of Ieruſalém, and thou, King Iehoſhaphát: thus ſaith the Lord vnto you, Feare you not, nether be afraied for this great multitude: for the ^kbattel is not yours, but Gods.

16.To morowe go ye downe againſt them: beholde, they come vp by the cleft of Ziz, and ye ſhal finde them at the end of the broke before the wildernes of Ieruél.

17.Ye ſhal not nede to fight in this battel. ^*ſtand ſtil, moue not, and beholde the ſaluacion of the Lord towarde you. O Iudáh, and Ieruſalém, feare ye not, nether be afraied: tomorowe go out againſt them, and the Lord wilbe with you.

18.¶ Then Iehoſhaphat ^lbowed downe with his face to the earth, and all Iudah & the inhabitants of Ieruſalém fell downe before the Lord, worſhiping the Lord.

19.And the Leuites of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Corhites ſtode vp to praiſe the Lord God of Iſraél with a loude voice on hie.

20.And when they aroſe early in the morning, they went forthe to the wildernes of Tekóa: & as they departed, Iehoſhaphat ſtode and ſaid, Heare ye me, ô Iudah, and ye inhabitants of Ieruſalém: put your truſt in the Lord your God, and ye ſhal be aſſured: beleue his ^mProphetes, and ye ſhal proſper.

21.And whẽ he had conſulted with the people, and appointed ſingers vnto the Lord, & them that ſhulde praiſe him that is in the beautiful Sãctuarie, in going forthe before the men of armes, & ſaying, ⁿPraiſe ye the Lord, for his mercie laſteth for euer,

22.And when they began to ſhoute, and to praiſe, the Lord laied ambuſhmẽts againſt the childrẽ of Ammón, Moáb, and ^omoũt Seír, which were come againſt Iudáh, and they ſlewe one another.

23.For the children of Ammón and Moáb roſe againſt the inhabitãts of mount Seír, to ſlea & to deſtroye them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitãts of Seír, euerie one helped to ^pdeſtroy another.

24.And when Iudáh came toward Mizpáh in the wildernes, they loked vnto the multitude: and beholde, the carkeiſes were fallen to the earth, and none eſcaped.

25.And when Iehoſhaphat and his people came to take away the ſpoyle of them, thei found amõg them in abundance bothe of ſubſtance & alſo of bodies ladẽ with precious iewels, which thei toke for thẽ ſelues, til they colde cary nomore: they were thre dayes in gathering of the ſpoile: for it was muche.

26.And in the fourte day thei ^qaſſembled them ſelues in the valley of Beracháh: for there thei bleſſed the Lord: therefore thei called the name of that place, The vallei of Beracháh vnto this day.

27.Thẽ euerie man of Iudáh & Ieruſalém returned with Iehoſhaphat their head, to go againe to Ieruſalém with ioye: for the Lord had made thẽ to reioyce ouer their enemies.

28.And they came to Ieruſalém with violes, and with harpes, and with trumpets, euen vnto the houſe of the Lord.

29.And the ^rfeare of God was vpon all the kingdomes of the earth, when they had heard that the Lord had foght againſt the enemies of Iſraél.

30.So y^e kingdome of Iehoſhaphat was quiet, & his God gaue him reſt on euery ſide.

31.¶ ^*And Iehoſhaphat reigned ouer Iudáh, and was fiue & thirtie yere olde, whẽ he began to reigne: and reigned fiue and twẽtie yere in Ieruſalém, and his mothers name was Azubáh the daughter of Shilhí.

32.And he walked in the ^swaye of Aſá his father, and departed not therefrom, doing that which was right in the ſight of the Lord.

33.Howbeit the hie places were ^tnot taken away: for the people had not yet prepared their hearts vnto the God of their fathers.

34.Concerning y^e reſt of the actes of Iehoſhaphat firſt and laſt, beholde, thei are writen in the boke of Iehú the ſonne of Hanáni, which ^*is mencioned in the boke of the Kings of Iſraél.

35.¶ Yet after this did Iehoſhaphat King of Iudáh ioyne him ſelfe with Ahaziáh King of Iſraél, who was giuen to do euil.

36.And he ioyned with him, to ^*make ſhippes to go to Tarſhiſh: and thei made the ſhippes in Eziõn Gabér.

37.Then Eliézer the ſonne of Dodauáh of Mareſháh prophecied agaĩſt Iehoſhaphat, ſaying, Becauſe thou haſt ^uioyned thy ſelf with Ahaziáh, the Lord hathe broken thy workes. and the ſhippes were broken, that thei were not able to go to Tarſhiſh.
