2 Kings 22

CHAP. XXII. 4 Ioſiáh repaireth the Temple. 8 Helkiáh findeth the boke of the Lawe, and cauſeth it to be preſented to Ioſiáh. 12 Who ſendeth to Huldáh the propheteſſe to inquire the Lords wil.
1.1 a Ioſiáh was * eight yere olde when he began to reigne, and he reigned one and thirtie yere in Ieruſalém. His mothers name alſo was Iedidáh the daughter of Adaiáh of Bozcáth.
2.2 And he did vprightly in the ſight of the Lord, & walked in all the wayes of Dauid his father, and bowed nether to the right hand, nor to the left.
3.3 ¶ And in the eightenth yere of King Ioſiáh, the King ſent Shaphán the ſonne of Azaliáh the ſonne of Meſhullám the chãceller to the houſe of the Lord, ſaying,
4.4 Go vp to Hilkiáh the hie Prieſt, that he may " ſumme the ſiluer which is broght into the houſe of the Lord, which the kepers of the b dore haue gathered of the people.
5.5 And let them c deliuer it into the hand of them that do the worke, and haue the ouerſight of the houſe of the Lord: let them giue it to them that worke in the houſe of the Lord, to repaire the decayed places of the houſe:
6.6 To wit, vnto the artificers and carpenters & maſons, and to bye tymber, and hewed ſtone
7.7 Howbeit let no rekening be made with them of the money, that is deliuered into their hand : for they deale d faithfully.
8.8 And Hilkiáh the hie Prieſt ſaid vnto Shaphán the chanceller, I haue founde the e boke of the Lawe in the houſe of the Lord: and Hilkiáh gaue the boke to Shaphán, and he red it.
9.9 So Shaphán the chanceller came to the King, and broght him worde againe, & ſaid, Thy ſeruāts haue " gathered the money, that was founde in the houſe, and haue deliuered it vnto the hands of them that do the worke, and haue the ouerſight of the houſe of the Lord.
10.10 Alſo Shaphán the chanceller ſhewed the King, ſaying, Hilkiáh the Prieſt hathe deliuered me a boke. And Shaphán red it before the King.
11.11 And when the King had heard the wordes of the boke of the Lawe, he rent his clothes.
12.12 Therefore the King commanded Hilkiáh the Prieſt, and Ahikám the ſonne of Shaphán, and Achbór the ſonne of Michaíah, and Shaphán the chanceller, and Aſahíah the Kings ſeruant, ſaying,
13.13 Go ye and f inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Iudáh, concerning the wordes of this boke that is founde: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled againſt vs, becauſe our fathers haue not obeyed the wordes of this boke, to do according vnto all that which is writen therein for vs.
14.14 ¶ So Hilkiáh the Prieſt and Ahikám, and Achbór and Shaphán, and Aſahíah went vnto Huldáh the Propheteſſe the wife of Shallúm, the ſonne of Tikuáh, the ſonne of Harhás keper of the ward-robe: (and ſhe dwelt in Ieruſalém in the " colledge) and they communed with her.
15.15 And ſhe anſwered them, Thus ſayth the Lord God of Iſraél, Tel the man that ſent you to me,
16.16 Thus ſayth the Lord, Beholde, I wil bring euil vpon this place, and on the inhabitants thereof, euen all the wordes of ye boke which ye King of Iudáh hathe red,
17.17 Becauſe they haue forſaken me, and haue burnt incenſe vnto other gods, to anger me with all the h workes of their hands: my wrath alſo ſhalbe kindled againſt this place, and ſhal not be quenched.
18.18 But to the King of Iudáh, who ſent you to inquire of the Lord, ſo ſhal ye ſay vnto him, Thus ſayth the Lord God of Iſraél, The wordes that thou haſt heard, ſhal come to paſſe.
19.19 But becauſe thine heart did i melt, and thou haſt humbled thy ſelfe before the Lord, when thou heardeſt what I ſpake againſt this place, and againſt the inhabitants of the ſame, to wit, that it ſhulde be deſtroyed and accurſed, and haſt rent thy clothes, and wept before me, I haue alſo heard it, ſayth the Lord.
20.20 Beholde therefore, I wil gather thee to thy fathers, and thou ſhalt be put in thy graue in k peace, and thine eyes ſhal not ſe all the euil, which I wil bring vpon this place. Thus they broght the King worde againe.
29.Kig of Iudáh wẽt vp to Ramóth Gileád.
30.And the King of Iſraél ſaid to Iehoſha-phát, I wil change mine apparel, and wil entre into the battel, but put thou on thi-ne apparel. And the King of Iſraél chan-ged him ſelfe, and went into the battel.
31.And the King of Arám commanded his two & thirtie capitaines ouer his charrets, ſaying, Fight nether with ſmal, nor great, ſaue onely againſt the King of Iſraél.
32.And when the capitaines of the charrets ſawe Iehoſhaphat, they ſaid, Surely it is ye King of Iſraél, & they turned to fight a-gainſt him: and Iehoſhaphat x cryed.
33.And when the capitaines of the charrets ſawe that he was not the King of Iſraél, they turned backe from him.
34.Then a certeine man drue a bowe " migh-tely and ſmote the King of Iſraél betwe-ne the ioyntes " of his brigãdine. Where-fore he ſaid vnto his charet man, Turne thine hãd & cary me out of the hoſte: for I am " hurt.
35.And the battel encreaſed that day, and the y King ſtode ſtil in his charet againſt the Aramites, and dyed at euen : and the blood ran out of the woũde into the mid-des of the charet.
36.And there went a proclamatiõ through out ye z hoſte about the going downe of the ſunne, ſaying, Euery man to his citie , and euery man to his owne countrei.
37.So the King dyed, and was broght to Sa-maria, & they buryed ye King in Samaria.
38.And one waſhed the charet in the poole of Samaria & the doggs licked vp his blo-od(& " they waſhed his armoure) accordĩg * vnto the worde of the Lord wc he ſpake.
39.Cõcerning the reſt of the actes of Aháb & all that he did, & ye yuorie houſe, which he buylt, & all the cities that he buylt, are they not writen in the boke of the Chro-nicles of the Kings of Iſraél?
40.So Aháb ſlept with his fathers , & Aha-ziáh his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
41.* And Iehoſhaphat the ſonne of Aſa be-gan to reigne vpon Iudáh in the fourth yere of Aháb King of Iſraél.
42.Iehoſhaphat was fiue and thirtieyere ol-de, when he began to reigne , and reigned fiue and twentie yere in Ieruſalém . And his mothers name was Azubáh the daugh-ter of Shilhí.
43.And he walked in all the wayes of Aſa his father, and declined not therefrom, but did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord. Neuertheles a the hie places we-re not taken away: for the people offred ſtil and burnt incenſe in the hie places.
44.And Iehoſhaphat made peace with the King of Iſraél.
45.Concerning the reſt of the actes of Ie-hoſhaphat, and his worthie dedes that he did , and his battels which he foght , are they not writen in the boke of the Chro-nicles of the Kings of Iudáh?
46.And the Sodomites, which remained in the dayes of his father Aſá,he put cleane out of the land.
47.There was then no King in Edóm : the b deputie was King.
48.Iehoſhaphat made ſhippes of c Tharſhiſh to ſaile to d Ophír for golde, but they wẽt not, for the ſhippes were broken at Eziõn Gáber.
49.Then ſaid Ahaziáh the ſonne of Aháb vnto Iehoſhaphat, Let my ſeruãts go with thy ſeruãts in ye ſhippes. But Iehoſhaphat wolde not.
50.And Iehoſhaphat did ſlepe with his fa-thers,& was buryed with his fathers in the citie of Dauid his father and Iehorám his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
51.¶ Ahaziáh the ſonne of Aháb began to reigne ouer Iſraél in Samaria, the ſeuen-tenth yere of Iehoſhaphat King of Iudáh, & reigned two yeres ouer Iſraél.
52.But he did euil in the ſight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, & in the way of his mother, and in the way of Ieroboam the ſonne of Nebat, which ma-de Iſraél to ſinne.
53.For he ſerued Báal and worſhipped him, & prouoked the Lord God of Iſraél vnto wrath, " according vnto all that his father had done.
