2 Kings 11

1 Athaliáh putteth to death all the Kings ſonnes, except Ioaſh the ſonne of Ohoz áh. 4 Ioaſh is appoined King. 15 Iehoiadá cauſeth Athaliáh to be ſlaine. 17 He maketh a couenant betwene God and the people. 18 Baal and his prieſts are deſtroyed.
1.THen * Athaliáh ye mother of Ahaziáh, whẽ ſhe ſaw that her ſonne was dead, ſhe aroſe, & deſtroyed all the a Kings ſede.
2.But Iehoſhéba ye daughter of King Iorám, and ſiſter to Ahaziáh b toke Ioáſh the ſonne of Ahaziáh, & ſtale him from among the Kings ſonnes that ſhould be ſlaine, bothe him and his nource, keping them in the bed * chãber, and they hid him from Athaliáh, ſo that he was not ſlaine.
3.And he was with her hid in the houſe of the Lord ſix yere: and Athaliáh did reigne ouer the land.
4.* And the ſeuẽth yere d Iehoiadá ſent & toke the captaines ouer hundreths, with e other captaines and them of the garde, and cauſed them to come vnto him into the houſe of the Lord, & made a couenãt with thẽ, & toke an oth of them in the houſe of the Lord, & ſhewed thẽ the Kings ſonne.
5.And he cõmanded thẽ, ſaying, This is it that ye muſt do, The third parte of f you, that cometh on the Sabbath, ſhal g warde towarde the Kings houſe.
6.And another third parte in ye gate of " Sur: and another third parte in the gate behinde them of the garde: & ye ſhal kepe watche " in the houſe of Maſſáh.
7.And two partes of you, that is, all that h go out on the Sabbath day, ſhal kepe ye watche of the houſe of the Lord about the King.
8.And ye ſhal compaſſe the King round about, euerie man with his weapon in his hand, and whoſoeuer commeth within the ranges, let him be ſlaine: be you with the King, as he goeth out and in.
9.¶And the captaines of the hundreths did according to all that Iehoiadá the Prieſt cõmanded, & they toke euerie man his mẽ that entred in to their charge on the i Sabbath with them that went out of it on the Sabbath, and came to Iehoiadá the Prieſt.
10.k And the Prieſt gaue to the captaines of hundreths the ſpeares and the ſhields that were King Dauids, and were in the houſe of the Lord.
11.And the garde ſtode, euerie mã with his weapon in his hand, from the right ſide of the houſe to the left ſide, about the altar & about the houſe, round about the King.
12.Then he broght out l the Kings ſonne, and put the crowne vpõ him and gaue him m the Teſtimonie, & they made him King: alſo they annointed him, and clapt their hands, and ſaid, God ſaue the King.
13.¶And when Athaliáh heard the noyſe of the running of the people, ſhe came in to the people in the houſe of the Lord.
14.And when ſhe loked, beholde, the King ſtode by a n piller, as the maner was, and the princes and the trũpeters by the King, and all the people of the land reioyced, & blue with trumpets. Then Athaliáh rent her clothes, and cryed, Treaſon, treaſon.
15.But Iehoiadá the Prieſt commanded the captaines of the hũdreths that had the rule of the hoſte, and ſaid vnto them, Haue her forthe " of the ranges, & he that o followeth her, let him dye by the ſworde: for the Prieſt had ſaid, let her not be ſlayne in the houſe of the Lord.
16.Then they layed hãds on her, & ſhe went by the way, by the wc the horſes go to the houſe of ye King, and there was ſhe ſlaine:
17.And Iehoiadá made a couenant betwene the Lord and p the King, and the people, that they ſhoulde be the Lords people: likewiſe betwene the q King and ye people.
18.Then all the people of the land wẽt into the houſe of Báal, and deſtroyed it with his altars, & his images brake they downe couragiouſly, and ſlewe Mattán the prieſt of Báal before the r altars: & the [ſ]Prieſt ſet a garde ouer the houſe of the Lord.
19.Then he toke the captaines of hũdreths, and the other captaines, and the garde, and all the people of the land: and they broght the King from the houſe of the Lord, and came by ye way of the gate of ye garde to ye Kings houſe: & he ſate him downe on the throne of the Kings.
20.20 And all the people of the land reioyced, and the citie was in quiet. e for they had ſlaine Athaliáh with the ſworde beſide the Kings houſe.
21.21 Seuen yere olde was Iehoáſh when he began to reigne.
