2 Kings 1

2 Ahaziáh by a fall falleth ſicke & cõſulteth with Baal-zebúb. 3 He is reproued by Eliiáh. 10 The captaines o-uer fiftie were ſent to Eliiáh, whereof two were burnt with fire frõ heauen by his prayer. 17 Ahaziáh dyeth, and Iehorám his brother ſuccedeth him.
1.THen Moáb rebelled a-gainſt Iſraél after the de-ath of Aháb:
2.And a Ahaziáh fel through the latteſſe win-dowe in his vpper chã-ber which was in Sama-ria: ſo he was ſicke: thẽ he ſent meſſengers, to whome he ſaid, Go, & enquire of b Ba-al-zebúb the god of Ekrón, if I ſhal reco-uer of this my diſeaſe.
3.Then the Angel of the Lord ſaid to Eliiáh the Tiſhbite, Ariſe, & go vp to mete the meſſengers of the King of Sa-maria, and ſaye vnto them, c Is it not be-cauſe there is no God in Iſraél, that ye go to inquire of Baal-zebúb the god of Ek-rón?
4.Wherefore thus ſayth the Lord, Thou ſhalt not come downe from the bed on which thou art gone vp, but ſhalt dye the death. So Eliiáh departed.
5.And the meſſengers returned vnto him, to whome he ſaid, Why are ye now retur-ned?
6.And they anſwered him, There came a man and met vs, and ſaid vnto vs, Go, and returne vnto the King which ſent you, and ſay vnto him, Thus ſayth the Lord, d Is it not becauſe there is no God in Iſraél, that thou ſendeſt to enquire of Baal-zebúb the god of Ekrón? Therefore thou ſhalt not come downe from the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but ſhalt dye the death.
7.And he ſaid vnto them, What maner of man was he which came and met you, and tolde you theſe wordes?
8.And they ſaid vnto hi, He was an e heerie man, and girded with a girdle of lether a-bout his loynes. Then ſaid he, It is Eliiáh the Tiſhbite.
9.Therefore the King ſent vnto him a cap-taine ouer fiftie with his fifty men, who went vp vnto him: for beholde, he ſate on the toppe f of a mountaine, & he ſaid vnto him, O man of God, the King hathe com-manded that thou come downe.
10.But Eliiáh anſwered, & ſaid to the cap-taine ouer the fiftie, If that I be a man of God, let g fyre come downe frõ the heauẽ, and deuoure thee and thy fyftie. So fyre came downe from the heauen and deuou-red him and his fiftie.
11.Againe alſo he ſent vnto him another captaine ouer fiftie, with his fifty. Who ſpake, and ſaid vnto him, h O man of God, thus the King commandeth, Come downe quickly.
12.But Eliiáh anſwered & ſaid vnto them, If i I be a man of God, let fyre come dow-ne from the heauen, and deuoure thee and thy fiftie. So fyre came downe from the heauen, and deuoured him and his fif-tie.
13.¶ Yet againe he ſent the third captaine ouer fifty wt his fifty. And the third captai-ne ouer fifty went vp & came, & fel on his knees before Eliiáh, & beſoght him, & ſaid vnto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my k life and the life of theſe thy fifty ſeruantes be l precious in thy ſight.
14.Beholde, there came fyre downe from the heauen and deuoured the two former captaines ouer fifty with their fifties: the-refore let my life now be precious in thy ſight.
15.And the Angel of the Lord ſaid vnto Eliiáh, Go downe wt him, be m not afrayd of his preſence. So he aroſe, and wẽt dow-ne with him vnto the King.
16.And he ſaid vnto him, Thus ſaith the Lord, Becauſe thou haſt ſent meſſengers to inquire of Baal-zebúb the God of Ek-rón, (was it not becauſe there was no God in Iſraél to inquire of his worde) therefore thou ſhalt not come downe of the bed, on which thou art gone vp, but ſhalt dye the death.
17.So he dyed according to the worde of ye Lord which Eliiáh had ſpoken. And n Ie-horám begã to reigne in his ſteade, in the ſeconde yere of Iehorám the ſonne of Ie-hoſhaphat King of Iudáh, becauſe he had no ſonne.
18.Concerning the reſt of the actes of Aha-ziáh, that he did, are thei not writen in the boke of the Chronicles of the Kings of Iſraél?
