1 Kings 22

2 Iehoſhaphát & Abáb fight againſt the King of Syria. 15 Michaiah ſheweth the King what ſhalbe the ſucceſſe of their enterpriſe. 24 Zedkiiáh the falſe prophet ſmiteth him. 34 Aháb is ſlaine. 40 Ahaziá his ſonne ſuccedeth. 41 The reigne of Iehoſhaphát, 51 and Iorám his ſonne.
1.* ANd they continued a thre yere without warre betwene Arám and Iſraél.
2.And in the third yere b did Iehoſhaphát the King of Iudáh come downe to the King of Iſraél.
3.(Then the King of Iſraél ſaid vnto his ſeruants, Knowe ye not that Ramóth Gileád c was ours? and we ſtaye, and take it not out of the hand of the King of Arám?)
4.And he ſaid vnto Iehoſhaphát, Wilt thou go with me to battel againſt Ramóth Gileád? And Iehoſhaphát ſaid vnto the King of Iſraél, d I am as thou art, my people as thy people, and mine horſes as thine horſes.
5.Then Iehoſhaphát ſaid vnto the King of Iſraél, Aſke counſel, e I pray thee, of the Lord to day.
6.Then the King of Iſraél gathered the f Prophetes vpon a foure hundreth men, and ſaid vnto them, Shal I go againſt Ramóth Gileád to battel, or ſhal I let it alone? And they ſaid, Go vp: for the Lord ſhal deliuer it into the hands of the King.
7.And Iehoſhaphát ſaid, Is there here neuer a Prophet of the g Lord more, that we might inquire of him?
8.And the King of Iſraél ſaid vnto Iehoſhaphát, There is yet one man (Michaiáh the ſonne of Imláh) by whome we may aſke counſel of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophecie good vnto me, but euil. And Iehoſhaphát ſaid, Let not the King ſay ſo.
9.Then the King of Iſraél called an Eunuch, & ſaid, Call quickely Michaiáh the ſonne of Imláh.
10.And the King of Iſraél & Iehoſhaphát the King of Iudáh ſate ether of them on his throne in their h apparel in the voyde place at the entring in of the gate of Samária, and all the Prophetes prophecied before them.
11.And Zidkiiáh the ſonne of Chenaanáh made him i hornes of yron, & ſaid, Thus ſayth the Lord, With theſe ſhalt thou puſh the Aramites, vntil thou haſt conſumed them.
12.And all the Prophetes prophecied ſo, ſaying, Go vp to Ramóth Gileád, & proſper: for the Lord ſhal deliuer it into the Kings hand.
13.And the meſſenger that was gone to call Michaiáh ſpake vnto him, ſaying, Beholde now, the wordes of the Prophetes declare good vnto the King with " one accorde: let thy worde therefore, I pray thee, be like the worde of one of them, & m ſpeake thou good.
14.And Michaiáh ſaid, As the Lord liueth, whatſoeuer the Lord ſayth vnto me, that wil I ſpeake.
15.So he came to the King, and the King ſaid vnto him, Michaiáh, ſhal we go againſt Ramóth Gileád to battel, or ſhal we leaue of? And he anſwered him, n Go vp, & proſper: and the Lord ſhal deliuer it into the hand of the King.
16.And the King ſaid vnto him, How oft ſhal I charge thee, that thou tel me nothing but that which is true in the Name of the Lord.
17.Then he ſaid, I ſawe all Iſraél ſcattred vpon the mountaines, as ſhepe that had no ſhepherd. And the Lord ſaid, o Theſe haue no maſter, let euery man returne vnto his houſe in peace.
18.(And the King of Iſraél ſaid vnto Iehoſhaphát, Did I not tel thee, that he wolde prophecie no good vnto me, but euil?)
19.Againe he ſaid, Heare thou therefore the worde of the Lord. I ſawe the Lord ſit on his throne, & all the p hoſte of heauen ſtode about him on his right hand and on his left hand.
20.And the Lord ſaid, Who ſhal entiſe Aháb that he may go and fall at Ramóth Gileád? And one ſaid on this maner, and another ſaid on that maner.
21.Then there came forthe a ſpirit, & q ſtode before the Lord, and ſaid, I wil entiſe him. And the Lord ſaid vnto him, Wherewith?
22.And he ſaid, I wil go out, and be a falſe ſpirit in the mouthe of all his prophetes. The he ſaid, Thou ſhalt entiſe him, & ſhalt alſo preuaile: go forthe, and do ſo.
23.Now therefore beholde, the Lord hath put a lying ſpirit in the mouthe of all theſe thy prophetes, and the Lord hathe appointed euil againſt thee.
24.Then Zidkiiáh the ſonne of Chenaanáh came nere & ſmote Michaiáh on the cheke, and ſaid, * When went the Spirit of the Lord from me, to ſpeake vnto thee?
25.And Michaiáh ſaid, Beholde, thou ſhalt ſe in that day, when thou ſhalt go from chamber to chamber to " hide thee.
26.And the King of Iſraél ſaid, Take Michaiáh, & cary him vnto Amón the gouernour of the citie, and vnto Ioáſh the Kings ſonne,
27.And ſay, thus ſayth the King, Put this man in the priſon houſe, & fede him with t bread of affliction, & with water of affliction, vntil I returne in peace.
28.And Michaiáh ſaid, If thou returne in peace, the Lord hathe not ſpoken by me: And he ſaid, u Hearken all ye people.
29.So the King of Iſraél & Iehoſhaphát the King Kig of Iudáh we̅t vp to Ramóth Gileád.
30.And the King of Iſraél ſaid to Iehoſha-phát, I wil change mine apparel, and wil entre into the battel, but put thou on thi-ne apparel. And the King of Iſraél chan-ged him ſelfe, and went into the battel.
31.And the King of Arám commanded his two & thirtie captaines ouer his charrets, ſaying, Fight nether with ſmal, nor great, ſaue onely againſt the King of Iſraél.
32.And when the captaines of the charets ſawe Iehoſhaphat, they ſaid, Surely it is ye King of Iſraél, & they turned to fight a-gainſt him: and Iehoſhaphat * cryed.
33.And when the captaines of the charets ſawe that he was not the King of Iſraél, they turned backe from him.
34.Then a certeine man drue a bowe " migh-tely and ſmote the King of Iſraél betwe-ne the ioyntes " of his brigádine. Where-fore he ſaid vnto his charet man, Turne thine ha̅d & cary me out of the hoſte: for I am " hurt.
35.And the battel encreaſed that day, and the y King ſtode ſtil in his charet againſt the Aramites, and dyed at euen : and the blood ran out of the wou̅de into the mid-des of the charet.
36.And there went a proclamatio̅ through out ye hoſte about the going downe of the ſunne, ſaying, Euery man to his citie, and euery man to his owne countrei.
37.So the King dyed, and was broght to Sa-maria, & they buryed ye King in Samaria.
38.And one waſhed the charet in the poole of Samaria & the doggs licked vp his blo-od(& " they waſhed his armoure) accordi̅g * vnto the worde of the Lord wc he ſpake.
39.Co̅cerning the reſt of the actes of Aháb & all that he did, & ye yuorie houſe, which he buylt, & all the cities that he buylt, are they not writen in the boke of the Chro-nicles of the Kings of Iſraél?
40.So Aháb ſlept with his fathers , & Aha-ziáh his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
41.* And Iehoſhaphat the ſonne of Aſá be-gan to reigne vpon Iudáh in the fourth yere of Aháb King of Iſraél.
42.Iehoſhaphat was fiue and thirtieyere ol-de, when he began to reigne , and reigned fiue and twentie yere in Ieruſalém. And his mothers name was Azubáh the daugh-ter of Shilhí.
43.And he walked in all the wayes of Aſá his father, and declined not therefrom, but did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord. Neuertheles a the hie places we-re not taken away: for the people offred ſtil and burnt incenſe in the hie places.
44.And Iehoſhaphat made peace with the King of Iſraél.
45.Concerning the reſt of the actes of Ie-hoſhaphat, and his worthie dedes that he did , and his battels which he foght , are they not writen in the boke of the Chro-nicles of the Kings of Iudáh?
46.And the Sodomites, which remained in the dayes of his father Aſá, he put cleane out of the land.
47.There was then no King in Edóm : the b deputie was King.
48.Iehoſhaphat made ſhippes of c Tharſhiſh to ſaile to d Ophír for golde, but they we̅t not, for the ſhippes were broken at Ezión Gáber.
49.Then ſaid Ahaziáh the ſonne of Aháb vnto Iehoſhaphat, Let my ſeruats go with thy ſeruats in ye ſhippes. But Iehoſhaphat wolde not.
50.And Iehoſhaphat did ſlepe with his fa-thers,& was buryed with his fathers in the citie of Dauid his father and Iehoram his ſonne reigned in his ſteade.
51.¶Ahaziah the ſonne of Ahab began to reigne ouer Iſraél in Samaria, the ſeuen-tenth yere of Iehoſhaphat King of Iudah, & reigned two yeres ouer Iſraél.
52.But he did euil in the ſight of the Lord, and walked in the way of his father, & in the way of his mother, and in the way of Ieroboám the ſonne of Nebát, which ma-de Iſraél to ſinne.
53.For he ſerued Báal and worſhipped him, & prouoked the Lord God of Iſraél vnto wrath, " according vnto all that his father had done.
