2 Samuel 13

CHAP. XIII.
14.Amnón Dauids ſonne defileth his ſiſter Tamár.
19.Tamár is comforted by her brother Abſalóm.
29.Abſalóm therefore killeth Amnón.
1.1 NOw after this ſo it was, that Abſalóm the ſonne of Dauid hauing a faire ſiſter, whoſe name was a Tamár, Amnón the ſonne of Dauid loued her.
2.2 And Amnón was ſo ſore vexed, that he fel ſicke for his ſiſter Tamár: for ſhe was a b virgin, & it ſemed harde to Amnón to do any thing to her.
3.3 But Amnón had a friend called Ionadáb, the ſonne of Shimeáh Dauids brother: and Ionadáb was a very ſubtile man.
4.4 Who ſaid vnto him, Why art thou the Kings ſonne ſo leane frõ day to day? wilt thou not tel me? Then Amnón anſwered him, I loue Tamár my brother Abſalós ſiſter.
5.5 And Ionadáb ſaid vnto him, c Lye downe on thy bed, and make thy ſelfe ſicke: and when thy father ſhal come to ſe thee, ſay vnto him, I pray thee, let my ſiſter Tamár come, and giue me meat, and let her dreſſe meat in my ſight, that I may ſe it, and eat it of her hand.
6.6 ¶ So Amnón laye downe, & made him ſelfe ſicke: and when the King came to ſe him, Amnón ſaid vnto the King, I pray thee, let Tamár my ſiſter come, & make me a couple of d cakes in my ſight, that I may receiue meat at her hand.
7.7 Then Dauid ſent home to Tamár, ſaying, Go now to thy brother Amnós houſe, and dreſſe him meat.
8.8 ¶ So Tamár went to her brother Amnons houſe, and he laye downe: and ſhe toke " floure, and knead it, and made cakes in his ſight, and did bake the cakes.
9.9 And ſhe toke a panne, & e powred them out before him, but he wolde not eat. Thẽ Amnón ſaid, Cauſe ye euery man to go out from f me: ſo euery man went out frõ him.
10.10 Then Amnón ſaid vnto Tamár, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamár toke the cakes which ſhe had made, and broght them into the chamber to Amnón her brother.
11.11 And when ſhe had fet them before him to eat, he toke her, and ſaid vnto her, Come, lye with me, my ſiſter.
12.12 But ſhe anſwered him, Naye, my brother, do not force me: for no ſuche thing * oght to be done in Iſraél: commit not this folie.
13.13 And I, " whether ſhal I cauſe my ſhame to go? and thou ſhalt be as one g of the fooles in Iſraél: now therefore, I pray thee, ſpeake to the King, for he wil not denye me vnto thee.
14.14 Howbeit he wolde not hearke vnto her voyce, but being ſtronger then ſhe, forced her, and lay with her.
15.15 Then Amnón hated her excedingly, ſo that the hatred wherewith he hated her, was greater then the loue, wherewith he had loued her: and Amnón ſaid vnto her, Vp, get thee hence
16.16 And ſhe anſwered him, " There is no cauſe: this euil(to put me away)is greater then the other that thou dideſt vnto me: but he wolde not heare her,
17.17 But called his " ſeruant that ſerued him, and ſaid, Put this woman now out from me, and locke the dore after her.
18.18 (And ſhe had a garment of h diuers coulers vpon her: for with ſuche garmẽts were the Kings daughters that were virgins, appareled) Then his ſeruant broght her out, and locked the dore after her.
19.19 And Tamár put aſſhes on her head & rent the garment of diuers coulers which was on her, and layed her hand on her head, & went her way crying.
20.20 And Abſalóm her brother ſaid vnto her, Hathe Amnón thy brother bene with thee? Now yet be i ſtyl, my ſiſter: he is thy brother: let not this thing grieue thine heart. So Tamár remained deſolate in her brother Abſaloms houſe.
21.21 ¶ But when King Dauid heard all theſe things, he was very wrothe.
22.22 And Abſalóm ſaid vnto his brother Amnón nether good nor bad: for Abſalóm hated Amnón, becauſe he had forced his ſiſter Tamar.
23.¶ And after the time of two yeres , Abſalóm had ſhepeſherers in " Baal-hazór, which is beſide Ephráim,and k Abſalóm called all the Kings ſonnes.
24.And Abſalóm came to the King & ſaid, Beholde now, thy ſeruant hathe ſhepeſherers : I pray thee , that the King with his ſeruants wolde go with thy ſeruant.
25.But the King anſwered Abſalóm, Naye my ſonne, I pray thee, let vs not go all,leſt we be chargeable vnto thee.Yet Abſalóm laye ſore vpõ him:howbeit he wolde not go,but " thanked him.
26.Thẽ ſaid Abſalóm,But, I pray thee,ſhal not my brother l Amnón go with vs? And the King anſwered him,Why ſhulde he go with thee?
27.But Abſalóm was inſtant vpon him,and he ſent Amnón with him,& all the Kings children.
28.¶ Now had Abſalóm commanded his ſeruants,ſaying, Marke now when Amnõs heart is mery with wine , and when I ſay vnto you , Smite Amnón , kil him , feare not , for haue not m I commanded you? be bolde therefore, and play the men.
29.And the ſeruants of Abſalóm did vnto Amnón, as Abſalóm had commanded: & all the Kings ſonnes aroſe, and euery man gate him vp vpon his mule, and fled.
30.¶ And while thei were in the way, tidĩgs came to Dauid , ſaying , Abſalóm hathe ſlayne all the Kings ſonnes , and there is not one of them left.
31.Then the King aroſe , and tare his garments, and lay on the n grounde , and all his ſeruants ſtode by with their clothes rent.
32.And Ionadáb the ſonne of Shimeáh Dauids brother anſwered and ſaid , Let not my lord ſuppoſe that thei haue ſlayne all the yong men the Kings ſonnes : for Amnón onely is dead, " becauſe Abſalóm had reported ſo, ſince he forced his ſiſter Tamár.
33.Now therefore let not my lord ye King " take ye thing ſo grieuouſly,to thinke that all the Kings ſonnes are dead : " for Amnón onely is dead.
34.¶ Then Abſalóm fled : & the yong man that kept the watche, lift vp his eyes , and loked,& beholde, there came muche people by the way of the hil ſide " behinde him.
35.And Ionadáb ſaid vnto the King , Beholde, the Kings ſonnes come : as thy ſeruant ſaid, o ſo it is.
36.And aſſone as he had left ſpeaking, beholde, the Kings ſonnes came, and lift vp their voyces, and wept:and the King alſo and all his ſeruants wept excedingly ſore.
37.But Abſalóm fled away , and went to p Talmái the ſonne of Ammihúr King of Geſhúr:and Dauid mourned for his ſonne euery day.
38.So Abſalóm fled, and went to Geſhúr,& was there thre yeres.
39.And King Dauid " deſired to go forthe vnto Abſalóm , becauſe he was pacified concerning Amnón, ſeing he was dead.
