1 Ioſeph is ſolde to Potiphár. 2 God proſpereth him 7 Potiphars wife tempteth him 13, 20 He is accuſed & caſt in priſon 21 God ſheweth him fauour.

1.NOw Ioſeph was broght downe into Egypt: & Potiphár ^a an Eunuche of Pharaohs (and his chief ſtuard an Egyptian) boght him at the hand of the Iſhmeelites, which had broght him thether.

2.And the Lord ^b was with Ioſeph, and he was a man that proſpered and was in the houſe of his maſter the Egyptian.

3.And his maſter ſawe that the Lord was with him, and that the Lord made all that he did to proſper in his hand.

4.So Ioſeph founde fauour in his ſight, & ſerued him: and he made him ^c ruler of his houſe, and put all that he had in his hand.

5.And frō that time that he had made him ruler ouer his houſe & ouer all that he had, the Lord ^d bleſſed the Egyptians houſe for Ioſephs ſake: & the bleſsing of the Lord was vpon all that he had in yͤ houſe, and in the field.

6.Therefore he left all yͤ he had in Ioſephs hād, ^e & toke accompte of nothīg, that was wͤ him, ſaue onely of the bread, which he did eat. And Ioſeph was a faire perſonne, and wel fauoured.

7.¶ Now therefore after theſe thīgs, his maſters wife caſt her eyes vpon Ioſeph, and ſaid, ^f Lye with me.

8.But he refuſed & ſaid to his maſters wife, Beholde, my maſter knoweth not what he hathe in the houſe with me, but hathe cōmitted all that he hathe to mine hand.

9.There is no man greater in this houſe then I: neither hathe he kept any thing frō me, but only thee, becauſe thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickednes & ſo ſinne againſt ^g God?

10.And albeit ſhe ſpake to Ioſeph day by day, yet he hearkened not vnto her, to lye with her, or to be in her companie.

11.Then on a certeine day Ioſeph entred in- to the houſe, to do his buſines: & there was no man of the houſholde in the houſe:

12.Therefore ſhe caught him by his gar- ment, ſayīg, Slepe wͤ me: but he left his garment in her hand and fled, & got him out.

13.Now when ſhe ſawe that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled out,

14.She called vnto the men of her houſe, and tolde them, ſaying, Beholde, he hathe broght ī an Ebrewe vnto vs ^" to mocke vs: who came into me for to haue ſlept with me: but I ^h cryed with a loude voyce.

15.And when he heard yͤ I lift vp my voyce and cryed, he left his garment with me, & fled away, and got him out.

16.So ſhe layed vp his garment by her, vntil her lord came home.

17.Then ſhe tolde him ^" according to theſe wordes, ſaying, The Ebrewe ſeruant, wͤ thou haſt brogt vnto vs, came into me to mocke me.

18.But aſsōne as I lift vp my voyce and cryed, he left his garmēt wͤ me, & fled out.

19.Then when his maſter heard the wordes of his wife, which ſhe tolde him, ſaying, After this maner did thy ſeruāt to me, his angre was kindled.

20.And Ioſephs maſter toke him and put him in ^" priſon, in the place where the Kings priſoners lay bounde: and there he was in priſon

21.¶ But yͤ Lord was with Ioſeph, & ⁱ ſhewed him mercie, and got him fauour in the ſight of the ^" maſter of the priſon.

22.And the keper of the priſon committed to Ioſephs hād all the priſoners that were in the priſon, and ^k whatſoeuer they did there, that did he.

23.And the keper of the priſon loked vnto nothing that was vnder his hand, ſeing that the Lord was with him: for whatſoeuer he did, the Lord made it to proſper.
