1 Samuel 21

1 Dauid fleeth to Nob to Ahimélech the Prieſt. 6 He getteth of him the ſhewbread to ſatiſſie his hungre. 7 Doég Sauls ſeruant was preſent. 10 Dauid fleeth to King Achiſh. 13 And there faineth him ſelfe mad.
1.THen came Dauid to a Nob, to Ahi- mélech the Prieſt, and Ahimélech was aſtonyed at the meting of Dauid, and ſaid vnto him, Why art thou alone, and no mā with thee?
2.And Dauid ſaid to Ahimélech the Prieſt, The b King hathe commanded me a cer- teine thing, and hathe ſaid vnto me, Let no man knowe whereabout I ſend thee, & what I haue commanded thee, and I haue appointed my ſeruants to ſuche and ſuche places.
3.Now therefore if thou haſt oght vnder thine hand, giue me fiue cakes of bread, or what commeth to hand.
4.And the Prieſt anſwered Dauid, & ſaid, There is no commune bread vnder mine hand, but here is * halowed bread, if ye yong men haue kept them ſelues, at leaſt from c women.
5.Dauid then anſwered the Prieſt, and ſaid vnto him, Certeinly women haue bene ſe- parate frō vs theſe two or thre dayes ſin- ce I came out: and the d veſſels of ye yong men were holy, thogh the way were prophane, & how muche more then ſhal euerie one e be ſanctified this day in the veſſel?
6.So the Prieſt gaue him halowed bread: for there was no bread there, ſaue the ſhew- bread that was takē from before the Lord, to put hote bread there, the day that it was taken away.
7.(And there was the ſame day one of the ſeruāts of Saúl f abiding before the Lord, named Doég the Edomite, the " chiefeſt of Sauls herdemen)
8.And Dauid ſaid vnto Ahimélech, Is the- re not here vnder thine hand a ſpeare or a ſworde? for I haue nether broght my ſwor- de nor mine harnes with me, becauſe the Kings buſines required haſte.
9.And ye Prieſt ſaid, The ſworde of Goliath the Philiſtím, whome thou ſleweſt in the * valley of Eláh, beholde, it is wrapt in a clothe behinde the g Ephód : if thou wilt take that to thee, take it : for there is none other ſaue that here, & Dauid ſaid, There is none to that, giue it me.
10.And Dauid aroſe & fled the ſame day from the h preſence of Saúl, & went to A- chiſh the King of Gath.
11.And the ſeruants of Achiſh ſaid vnto hī, Is not this Dauid the * King of the land? did they not ſing vnto him in dances, ſay- ing, * Saúl hathe ſlaine his thouſand, & Da uid his ten thouſand?
12.And Dauid " conſidered theſe wordes, & was ſore afraid of Achiſh the King of Gath.
13.And he chāged his behauiour before thē, and fained him ſelfe mad in their hands, & i ſcrabled on the dores of the gate, & let his ſpetle fall downe vpon his bearde.
14.Then ſaid Achiſh vnto his ſeruants, Lo, ye ſe the mā is beſide him ſelfe, wherefore haue ye broght him to me?
15.Haue I nede of mad men, that ye haue broght this fellowe to play the mad man in my preſence ? k ſhal he come into mine houſe?
