Judges 2

The Angel rebuketh the people, becauſe thei had made peace with the Canaanites. 11 The Iſraelites fel to idolatrie after Ioſhuas death. 14 Thei are deliuered into the enemies hands. 16 God deliuereth them by Iudges 22 Why God ſuffred idolaters to remaine among them.
.ANd an a Angel of the Lord came vp from Gilgál to Bochím, & ſaid, I made you to go vp out of Egypt, & haue broght you vnto the land which I had ſworne vnto your fathers, and ſaid, I wil neuer breake my couenant with you.
.* Ye alſo ſhal make no couenant with the inhabitants of this land, * but ſhal breake downe their altars: but ye haue not obeyed my voyce. why haue ye done this?
.Wherefore, I ſaid alſo, I wil not caſt thē out before you, but thei ſhalbe * as thornes vnto your ſides, and their gods ſhalbe c your deſtruction.
.And when the Angel of the Lord ſpake theſe wordes vnto all the children of Iſraél, the people lift vp their voyce, and wept.
.Therefore thei called the name of that place, d Bochím, and offred ſacrifices there vnto the Lord.
.¶ Now when Ioſhúa had b ſent the people away, the children of Iſraél went euerie mā into his inheritance to poſſeſſe the land.
.And the people had ſerued the Lord all the daies of Ioſhúa, and all the daies of the Elders that outlyued Ioſhúa, which had ſene all the great workes of the Lord that he did for Iſraél.
.But Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun the ſeruāt of the Lord dyed, when he was an hūdreth and ten yeres olde:
.And thei buried him in the coaſtes of his inheritance, in d Timnath-héres in mount Ephráim, on the Northſide of mount Gáaſh.
.And ſo all that generacion was gathered vnto their fathers, and an other generacion aroſe after them, which nether knewe the Lord, nor yet the workes, which he had done for Iſraél.
.¶ Thé the children of Iſraél did wickedly in the fight of the Lord, and ſerued e Baalím,
.And forſoke the Lord God of their fathers, which broght them out of the land of Egypt, & followed other gods, euē the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed vnto them, & prouoked the Lord to angre.
.So thei forſoke the Lord, & ſerued Báal and f Aſhtaróth.
.And the wrath of the Lord was hote againſt Iſraél, and he deliuered them into the hāds of ſpoilers, that ſpoiled them, & he * ſolde them into the hands of their enemies roūd about thē, ſo that thei coulde no longer ſtand before their enemies.
.Whetherſoeuer thei went out, the g hād of the Lord was ſore againſt them, as the Lord had ſaid, & as the h Lord had ſworne vnto them: ſo he puniſhed them ſore.
.¶ Notwithſtanding, the Lord raiſed vp Iudges, which " deliuered them out of the hands of their oppreſſers.
.But yet thei wolde not obey their Iudges: for thei went a whoring after other gods, and worſhipped them, & turned i quickely out of the way, wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandements of the Lord: thei did not ſo.
.And when the Lord had raiſed them vp Iudges, the Lord was with the Iudge, and deliuered them out of the hand of their enemies all the daies of the Iudge (for the Lord k had compaſsion of their gronings, becauſe of them that oppreſſed them & tormented them)
.Yet whē the Iudge was dead, thei returned, and " did worſe then their fathers, in following other gods to ſerue them and worſhip them: thei ceaſed not from their owne inuencions, nor from their rebellious way.
.Wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled againſt Iſraél, & he ſaid, Becauſe this people haue tranſgreſſed my couenant, which I commanded then fathers, & hathe not obeyed my voyce,
.Therefo e wil I no more caſt out before them any of the l nacions, which Ioſhúa left when he dyed,
.That through them I may m proue Iſraél, whether they wil kepe the way of the Lord, to walke therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.
.So the Lord left thoſe nacions, & droue them not out immediatly, nether deliuered them into the hand of Ioſhúa.
