Judges 2

The Angle rebuketh the people, because thei had made peace with the Canaanites. 11 The Israelites fel to idolatrie after Joshuas death. 14 Thei are delivered into the enemies hands. 16 God delivereth them by Judges 22 Why God suffred idolaters to remaine among them.
.And an aAngel of the Lord came up from Gilgál to Bochím, and said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have broght you unto the land which I had sworne unto your fathers, and said, I wil never breake my covenant with you.
.*Ye also shal make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land, *but shal breake downe their altars: but ye have not obeyed my voyce. Why have ye done this?
.Wherefore, I said also, I wil not cast them out before you, but thei shalbe *as thornes unto your sides, and their gods shalbe ^your destruction.
.And when the Angel of the Lord spake these wordes unto all the children of Israél, the people lift up their voyce, and wept.
.Therefore thei called the name of that place, ^Bochím, and offred sacrifices there unto the Lord.
.¶ Now when Joshúa had bsent the people away, the children of Israél went everie man into his inheritance to possesse the land.
.And the people had served the Lord all the daies of Joshúa, and all the daies of the Elders that outlyved Joshúa, which had sene all the great cworkes of the Lord that he did for Israél.
.But Joshúa the sonne of Nun the servant of the Lord dyed, when he was an hundreth and ten yeres olde:
.And thei buryed him in the coastes of his inheritance, in dTimnath-héres in mount Ephráim, on the Northside of mount Gáash.
.And so all that generacion was gathered unto their fathers, and an other generacion arose after them, which nether knewe the Lord, nor yet the workes, which he had done for Israél.
.¶ Then the children of Israél did wickedly in the sight of the Lord, and served eBaalím,
.And forsoke the Lord God of their fathers, which broght them out of the land of Egypt, & followed other gods, even the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed unto them, and provoked the Lord to angre.
.So thei forsoke the Lord, and served Báal and fAshtaróth.
.And the wrath of the Lord was hote against Israél, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers, that spoiled them, & he *solde them into the hands of their enemies round about them, so that thei colde no longer stand before their enemies.
.gWhethersoever thei went out, the hhand of the Lord was sore against them, as the Lord had said, and as the Lord had sworne unto them: so he punished them sore.
.¶ Notwithstanding, the Lord raised up ^Judges, which ^delivered them out of the hands of their oppressors.
.But yet thei wolde not obey their Judges: for thei went a whoring after other gods, and worshipped them, and turned quickly out of the iway, wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandements of the Lord: thei did not so.
.And when the Lord had raised them up Judges, the Lord was with the Judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the daies of the Judge (for the Lord ^had compassion of their gronings, kbecause of them that oppressed them and tormented them)
.Yet *when the Judge was dead, thei returned, and ^did worse then their fathers, in following other gods to serve them & worship them • thei ceased not from their owne invencions, nor from their rebellious way.
.Wherefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israél, and he said, Because this people hathe transgressed my covenant, which I commanded their fathers, and hathe not obeyed my voyce,
.Therefore wil I no more cast out before them any of the lnacions, which Joshúa left when he dyed,
.That through them I may mprove Israél, whether they wil kepe the way of the Lord, to walke therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.
.So the Lord left those nacions, and drove them not out immediately, nether delivered them into the hand of Joshúa.
