Acts 13

3 Paul and Barnabas are called to preach among the Gentiles. 7 Of Sergius Paulus, and Elymas the sorcerer. 13 The departure of Marke. 14 Paul preacheth at Antiochia. 42 The faith of the Gentiles. 46 The Jews rejected. 48 They that are ordained to life, believe. 52 The fruit of faith.
1.There were also in the Church that was at Antiochia, certain Prophets and teachers, as Barnabas, and Simeon called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and aManahen (which had been brought up with Herod the Tetrarch) and Saul.
2.Now as they bministered to the Lord, and fasted, the holie Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul, for the work whereunto I have called them.
3.Then fasted they and prayed, and laid their hands on them, and let them go.
4.And they, after they were *sent forth of the holie Ghost, came down unto Seleucia, and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.
5.And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the Synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John to their minister.
6.So when they had gone throughout the isle unto Paphus, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, being a Jew, named Bariesus,
7.Which was with the Deputy Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. He called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.
8.But Elymas, the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, & sought to turn away the Deputy from the faith.
9.Then Saul (which also is called Paul) being full of the holie Ghost, set his eyes on him,
10.And said, O full of all subtlety and all mischief, the child of the devil, and enemy of all righteousness, wilt you not cease to pervert the straight cways of the Lord?
11.Now therefore behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, and not see the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness, and he went about, seeking some to lead him by the hand.
12.Then the Deputy when he saw what was done, believed, and was astonied at the doctrine of the Lord.
13.Now when Paul and they that were with him were departed by ship from Paphus, they came to Perga a city of Pamphylia: then John departed from them, and returned to Jerusalem.
14.But when they departed from Perga, they came to dAntiochia a city of Pisidia, and went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down.
15.And after the lecture of the Law and Prophets, the rulers of the Synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of eexhortation for the people, say on.
16.Then Paul stood up and beckoned with the hand, and said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken.
17.The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt in the land of *Egypt, and with an *high arm brought them out thereof.
18.And about the time *of forty years, suffered he their fmanners in the wilderness.
19.And he destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, and *divided their land to them by lot.
20.Then afterward he gave unto them *Judges gabout four hundred and fifty years, unto the time of Samuel the Prophet.
21.So after that they desired a *King, and God gave unto them *Saul, the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.
22.And after he had taken him away, he raised up *David to be their King, of whom he witnessed, saying, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which will do all things that I will.
23.Of this man’s seed hath God *according to his promise raised up to Israel, the Saviour Jesus:
24.When *John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
25.And when John had fulfilled his hcourse, he said, *Whom ye think that I am, I am not he: but behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoe of his feet I am not worthy to loose.
26.Ye men and brethren, children of the generation of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the iword of this salvation sent.
27.For the inhabitants of Jerusalem, & their rulers, because they kknew him not, nor yet the words of the Prophets, which are lread every Sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
28.And though they found no cause of death in him, *yet desired they Pilate to kill him.
29.And when they had mfulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, & put him in a sepulchre.
30.But God *raised him up from the dead.
31.And he was seen many days of them, which came up with him from Galile to Jerusalem, which are his witnesses unto the people.
32.And we declare unto you, that touching the promise made unto the fathers,
33.God hath fulfilled it unto us their children, in that he nraised up Jesus, even as it is written in the second Psalm, *Thou art my Son: this day have I begotten thee.
34.Now as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, no more to return to the grave, he hath said thus, *I will give you the oholie things of David, which are faithful.
35.Wherefore he saith also in another place, *Thou wilt not suffer thine Holie one to see corruption.
36.Howbeit, David after he had served his time by the counsel of God, he *slept, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption.
37.But he whom God raised up, saw no corruption.
38.Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins.
39.And from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the Law of Moses, by him every one that believeth, is justified.
40.Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the Prophets,
41.*Behold, ye pdespisers, and wonder, and vanish away: for I work a qwork in your days, a work which ye shall not believe, if a man would declare it you.
42.¶ And when they were come out of the Synagogue of the Jews, the Gentiles besought, that they would preach these words to them the next Sabbath day.
43.Now when the Congregation was dissolved, many of the Jews, and proselytes that feared God, followed Paul and Barnabas, which spake to them, and exhorted them to continue in the grace of God.
44.And the next Sabbath day came almost the whole city together, to hear the word of God.
45.But when the Jews saw the people, they were full of renvy, and spake against those things, which were spoken of Paul, contrarying them, and railing on them.
46.Then Paul and Barnabas spake boldly, and said, *It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken unto you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge your selves unworthy of severlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
47.For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, *I have made thee a light of the Gentiles, that thou shuldest be the salvation unto the end of the world.
48.And when the Gentiles heard it, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were tordained unto eternal life, believed.
49.Thus the word of the Lord was published throughout the whole country.
50.But the Jews stirred certain udevote and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.
51.But they *shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.
52.And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the holie Ghost.
