Acts 1

7 The words of Christ and his Angels to the Apostles. 9 His ascension 14 Wherein the Apostles are occupied till the holie Ghost be sent 26 And of the election of Matthias.
1.I have made the former treatise, ô Theophilus, of all that JESUS began to ado, and teach,
2.Until the day, that he was taken up, after that he through the holie Ghost, had given bcommandments unto the cApostles, whom he had chosen:
3.To whom also he presented him self alive after that he had suffered, by many infallible tokens, being seen of them by the space of forty days, and speaking of those things which appertain to the dkingdom of God.
4.And when he had egathered them together, he commanded them, that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, *which, said he, ye have heard of me.
5.*For John in deed baptised with water, but ye shalbe baptised with the fholie Ghost within these few days.
6.When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou gat this time restore the kingdom to Israel?
7.And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the htimes, or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power,
8.But ye shall receive power of the holie Ghost, when he shall come on you: and ye shalbe iwitnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the kuttermost part of the earth.
9.*And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was ltaken up: for a cloud took him up out of their sight.
10.And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven, as he went, behold, mtwo men stood by them in white apparel,
11.Which also said, Ye men of Galile, why stand ye ngazing into heaven? This Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall oso come, as ye have seen him go into heaven.
12.¶ Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount that is called the mount of olives, which is near to Jerusalem, containing a pSabbath day’s journey.
13.And when they were come in, they went up into an upper chamber, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philippe, and Thomas, Bartlemewe, & Matthew, James the son of Alpheus, and Simon zelotes, & Judas James’ brother.
14.These all continued with one qaccord in rprayer & supplication with the ^women, and Marie the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
15.¶ And in those days Peter stood up in the middes of the disciples and said (now the number of ^names that were in one place, were about an hundreth and twenty)
16.Ye men and brethren, this sScripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the *holie Ghost by the mouth of David spake before of Judas, which was *guide to them that took Jesus.
17.For he was numbered with us, and had obtained ^fellowship in this ministration.
18.He therefore hath purchased a field with the treward of iniquity: and when he *had thrown down him self head long he brast a sunder in the middes, and all his bowels gushed out.
19.And it is known unto all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, in so much, that that field is called in their own language, Aceldama, that is, The field of blood.
20.For it is written in the book of Psalms, *Let his habitation be void, and let no man dwell therein: *also, Let another take his ^charge.
21.Wherefore, of these men which have companied with us, all the time that the Lord Jesus was ^conversant among us,
22.Beginning from the Baptism of John, unto the day that he was taken up from us, must one of them be made a witness with us of his uresurrection.
23.And they presented two, Joseph called Barsabas, whose surname was Justus, and Matthias.
24.And they prayed, saying, Thou Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shewe whether of these two xthou hast chosen,
25.That he may take the room of this ministration and Apostleship, from which Judas hath gone astray, to go to his own place.
26.Then they gave forth their lots: and the lot fell on Matthias, & he was by a common consent counted with the Eleven Apostles.
