Numbers 14

2 The people murmure against Moſés 10 They wolde haue stoned Caléb and Ioshúa 13 Mosés pacifieth God by his praier. 45 The people that wolde entre into the land, contrarie to Gods wil, are slaine.
1.THen all the Congregacion lifted vp their voice, and cryed: and a the people wept that night,
2.And all the children of Iſraél murmured againſt Moſés and Aarón: and the whole aſſemblie ſaid vnto them, Wolde God we had dyed in the land of Egypt, or in this wildernes: wolde God we were dead.
3.Wherefore now hathe ye Lord broght vs into this lãd to fall vpon the ſworde? our wiues, and our children ſhal be b a praye: were it not better for vs to returne into Egypt?
4.And they ſaid one to another, Let vs make a captaine and returne into Egypt.
5.Then Moſés and Aarón c fel on their faces before all the aſſemblie of the Congregacion of the children of Iſraél.
6.And Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun, and Caléb the ſonne of Iephunnéh two of them that ſearched the land, d rent their clothes,
7.And ſpake vnto all the aſſemblie of the children of Iſraél, ſaying, The land which we walked through to ſearche it, is a very good land.
8.If the Lord loue vs, he wil bring vs into this land, and giue it vs, which is a land that floweth with milke and honie.
9.But rebel not ye againſt the Lord, nether feare ye the people of the land : for they are but e bread for vs : their ſhielde is departed from them, and the Lord is with vs, feare them not.
10.And all the multitude ſaid, f Stone thē with ſtones : but the glorie of the Lord appeared in the Tabernacle of the Con-gregacion, before all the children of Iſrael.
11.And the Lord ſaid vnto Moſés, How long wil this people prouoke me, and how long wil it be, yer they beleue me, for ail the ſignes which I haue ſhewed among them?
12.I wil ſmite them with the peſtilence and deſtroy them, and wil make thee a grea-ter nacion and mightier then they.
13.But Moſés ſaid vnto the Lord, * When the Egyptians ſhal heare it, (for thou broghteſt this people by thy power from among them)
14.Then they ſhal ſay to the inhabitants of this land, (for they haue heard that thou, Lord, art amōg this people, & that thou, Lord, art ſene " face to face, and that thy cloude ſtandeth ouer them, and that thou * goeſt before them by day time in a pil-ler of a cloude, and in a piller of fire by night)
15.That thou wilt kil this people as g one man : ſo the heathen which haue heard the fame of thee, ſhal thus ſay,
16.Becauſe the Lord was not * able to bring this people into the land, which he ſwa-re vnto them, therefore hathe he ſlaine them in the wildernes.
17.And now, I beſeche thee, let the power of my Lord be great, according as thou haſt ſpoken, ſaying,
18.The Lord is * flowe to angre, and of great mercie, and * forgiuing iniquitie, and ſinne, but not making the wicked inno-cent, & * viſiting the wickednes of the fa-thers vpon the children, in the third and fourth generacion:
19.Be merciful, I beſeche thee, vnto the iniquitie of this people, according to thy great mercy, and as thou haſt forgi-uen this people from Egypt, euen vntil nowe.
20.And the Lord ſaid, I haue forgiuen h it, according to thy requeſt.
21.Notwithſtanding, as I liue, all the earth ſhalbe filled with the glorie of the Lord.
22.For all thoſe men which haue ſene my glorie, and my miracles which I did in E-gypt, and in the wildernes, & haue tēpted me this i ten times, and haue not obeied my voyce,
23.Certeinely thei ſhal not ſe the land, whe-reof I ſware vnto their fathers : nether ſhal anie that prouoke me, ſe it.
24.But my ſeruant * Caléb, becauſe he had another k ſpirit, & hathe folowed me ſtil, euen him wil I bring into the land, whether he went, and his ſede ſhal inhe-rit it.
25.Now the Amalekites and the Canaani-tes l remaine in the valley : wherefore tur-ne backe tomorowe, and get you into the m wildernes, by the way of the red Sea.
26.¶ After, the Lord ſpake vnto Moſés and to Aarón, ſaying,
27.* How long ſhal I ſuffre this wicked mul-titude to murmure againſt me? I haue he-ard the murmurings of the childrē of Iſ-raél, which they murmure againſt me.
28.Tel them, As * I liue (ſaieth the Lord) I wil ſurely do vnto you, euen as ye haue ſpoken in mine eares.
29.Your carkeifes ſhal fall in this wilder-nes, & all you that were * counted through all your nombers, from twentie yere olde and aboue, which haue murmured againſt me,
30.Ye ſhal not douteles come into the lād, for the which I * lifted vp mine hand, to make you dwel therein, ſaue Caléb the ſonne of Iephunnéh, and Ioſhúa the ſon-ne of Nun.
31.But your children, (which ye ſaid ſhulde be a praye) them wil I bring in, and they ſhal know the land which ye haue refu-ſed:
32.But euen your carkeifes ſhal fall in this wildernes.
33.And your children ſhal n wander in the wildernes, * fourtie yeres, & ſhal beare your o whoredomes, vntil your carkeifes be wa-ſted in the wildernes.
34.After the number of the dayes, in the which ye ſearched out the land, euen four-tie dayes, * euerie day for a yere, ſhal ye beare your iniquitie, for * fourtie ye-res, and ye ſhal fele my breache of p pro-miſe.
35.I the Lord haue ſaid, Certeinely I wil do ſo to all this wicked companie, that are gathered together againſt me : for in this wildernes they ſhalbe conſumed, and the-re they ſhal dye.
36.And the men which Moſés had ſent to ſearche the land (which, when they ca-me againe, made all the people to mur-
37.Eué thoſe men that did bring vp that vi- le ſlander vpon the lãd, * ſhal dye by a pla- gue before the Lord.
38.But Ioſhúa the ſonne of Nun, and Caléb the ſonne of Iephunnéh, of thoſe mẽ that went to ſearche the land, ſhal liue.
39.¶ Then Moſés tolde theſe ſayings vnto all the children of Iſraél, and the people ſorowed greatly.
40.* And thei roſe vp earely in the mor- ning, and gat them vp into the top of the mountaine, ſaying, Lo, we be ready, to go vp to the place which the Lord hathe promiſed : for we haue q ſinned.
41.But Moſés ſaid, Wherefore tranſgreſſe ye thus the commandement of the Lord? it wil not ſo come wel to paſſe.
42.Go not vp (for the Lord is not among you) left ye be ouerthrowen before your enemies.
43.For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye ſhal fall by ye ſworde : for in as muche as ye are turned awaie from the Lord, the Lord alſo wil not be with you.
44.Yet they preſumed r obſtinatly to go vp to the top of the mountaine : but the Arke of the couenant of the Lord, and Moſés departed not out of the campe.
45.Then the Amalekites and the Canaani- tes, which dwelt in that mountaine, came downe and ſmote them, * and conſumed them vnto Hormáh.
