Ezekiel 1

The time wherein Ezekiél prophecied and in what place 3 His kinred. 15 The viſion of the foure beaſtes. 26 The viſion of the throne.
1.IT came to paſſe in the thirtieth yere in the fourth moneth, and in the fift day of the moneth (as I was amōg the captiues by the riuer Chebár) that ye heauens were opened and I ſawe viſions of God.
2.In the fift daye of the moneth (which was the fift yere of King Ioiachins captiuitie)
3.The worde of the Lord came vnto Ezekiél the Prieſt, the ſonne of Buzí, in the land of the Caldeans, by ye riuer Chebár, where the hãd of the Lord was vpō him.
4.And I loked, & beholde, a whirlewinde came out of the North, a great cloude & a fyre wrapped about it, and a brightnes was about it, and in the middes thereof, to wit, in the middes of the fyre came out as the likenes of ambre.
5.Alſo out of the middes thereof came the likenes of foure beaſts, and this was their forme: they had the appearance of a man,
6.And euerie one had foure faces, and euerie one had foure wings.
7.And their fete were ſtreight fete, and the ſole of their fete was like the ſole of a calues fote, and they ſparkled like the appearance of bright braſſe.
8.And the hands of a mã came out frõ vnder their wings in the foure partes of the, and thei foure had their faces, & their wings.
9.They were ioyned by their wings one to another, & when thei went forthe, thei returned not, but euerie one went ſtreight forwarde.
10.And the ſimilitude of their faces was as the face of man: and they foure had the face of a lyon on the right ſide, and they foure had the face of a bullocke on the left ſide: they foure alſo had the face of an egle.
11.Thus were their faces: but their wings were ſpred out aboue: two wings of euerie one were ioyned one to another, and two couered their bodies.
12.And euerie one went ſtreight forwarde: they went whether their ſpirit led them, & thei returned not whẽ thei wẽt forthe.
13.The ſimilitude alſo of the beaſtes, and their appearance was like burning coles of fyre, and like the appearance of lampes: for the fyre ran among the beaſtes, & the fyre gaue a gliſter, and out of the fyre there went lightening.
14.And the beaſtes ran, and returned like vnto lightening.
15.¶Now as I behelde the beaſtes, beholde, a whele appeared vpon the earth by the beaſtes, hauing foure faces.
16.The faciõ of the wheles and their worke was like vnto a chryſolite: & they foure had one forme, and their facion, and their worke was as one whele in another whele.
17.Whẽ thei wẽt, thei wẽt vpõ their foure ſides, & they returned not when thei wẽt.
18.They had alſo rings, and height, & were fearful to beholde, and their rings were ful of eyes, round about them foure.
19.And when the beaſtes went, the wheles wẽt with them: and when the beaſtes were lift vp frõ the earth, ye wheles were lift vp.
20.Whether their ſpirit led thẽ, they wẽt, and thether did the ſpirit of the wheles lead them, and the wheles were lifted vp beſides them: for the Spirit of the beaſtes was in the wheles.
21.When the beaſtes went, they went, and when they ſtode, they ſtode, & when they were lifted vp from the earth, the wheles were lifted vp beſides them: for the ſpirit of the beaſtes was in the wheles.
22.And the ſimilitude of the firmament vpõ the heads of the beaſtes was wonderful, like vnto chryſtal, ſpred ouer their heads aboue
23.And vnder the firmament were their wings ſtreight, the one towarde the other: euerie one had two, which couered thẽ, & euerie one had two, wc couered their bodies.
24.And when they went forthe, I heard the noiſe of their wings, like ye noiſe of great waters, and as the voice of the Almightie, euen the voyce of ſpeache, as the noiſe of an hoſte: and when they ſtode, they let downe their wings.
25.And there was a voyce from the firmament, that was ouer their heades, whẽ they ſtode, and had let downe their wings.
26.And aboue the firmament that was ouer their heades, was the facion of a throne like vntõ a ſaphir ſtone, and vpon the ſimilitude of the throne was by appearance, as the ſimilitude of a man aboue vpon it.
27.And I ſawe as the appearance of ambre, and as the ſimilitude of fyre a rounde about within it to loke to, euen from his loynes vpwarde, and to loke to, euẽ from his loynes downewarde: I ſaw as a likenes of fyre, and brightnes rounde about it.
28.As the likenes of the bowe, that is in the cloude in the day of raine, ſo was the appearance of the light rounde about.
29.This was the appearance of the ſimilitude of the glorie of the Lord: and when I ſawe it, I fel vpon my face, and I heard a voyce of one that ſpake.

After that ye boke of the Law was founde, which was the eighteneh yere of the reigne of Ioſiáh, ſo that fiue & twentie yeres after this boke was founde, Ieconíáh was led awaie captiue with Ezekiél & manie of ye people who the firſt yere after ſawe theſe viſions

Which was a part of Euphrates, ſo called

That is, notable, and excellent viſions, ſo that it might be knowen, it was no natural dreame but came of God

By this diuerſitie of wordes he ſignifieth ye feareful iudgement of God, and the great afflictions, that ſhulde come vpon Ieruſalém

Euerie Cherubim had foure faces, the face of a man, & of a lyon on ye right ſide, and the face of a bullocke, and of an egle on the left ſide.

Which ſignified, that they had no power of them ſelues but onely waited to execute Gods commandement.
