Jeremiah 39

Nebuchad-nezzár beſiegeth Ieruſalém. 4 Zedekiáh fleing is taken of the Caldeans. 6 His ſonnes are ſlaine. 7 His eyes are thruſt out. 11 Ieremiáh is prouided for. 15 Ebed-mélech is deliuered from captiuitie.
1.IN the ninth yere of Zedekiáh King of Iudáh in yͤ tenth moneth, came Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél and all his hoſte againſt Ieruſalém, and thei beſieged it.
2.And in the eleuenth yere of Zedekiáh in the fourth moneth, the ninth daie of the moneth, the citie was broken vp.
3.And all the princes of the King of Babél came in, and ſate in the middle gate, euen Neregál, Sharézer, Samgar-nébo, Sarſechím, Rab-ſarís, Neregál, Sharézer, Rab-mag with all the reſidue of the princes of the King of Babél.
4.And when Zedekiáh the King of Iudáh ſawe them, and all the men of warre, then thei fled, & went out of the citie by night, through the Kings garden, & by the gate betwene the two walles, and he went toward the wildernes.
5.But the Caldeans hoſte purſued after them, and ouertoke Zedekiáh in the deſert of Ierichó: and when thei had taken him, thei broght him to Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél vnto Ribláh in the land of Hamáth, where he gaue iudgemẽt vpon him.
6.Then the King of Babél ſlewe the ſonnes of Zedekiáh in Ribláh before his eyes: alſo the King of Babél ſlewe all the nobles of Iudáh.
7.Moreouer he put out Zedekiahs eyes, and bounde him in chaines, to carye him to Babél.
8.And the Caldeans burnt the Kings houſe, and the houſes of the people with fyre, and brake downe the walles of Ieruſalém.
9.Then Nebuzar-adán the chief ſteward caryed away captiue into Babél the remnãt of the people, that remained in the citie, and thoſe that were fled and fallen vnto him, with the reſt of the people that remained.
10.But Nebuzar-adán yͤ chief ſteward left the poore that had nothing in the land of Iudáh, and gaue them vineyardes and fields at the ſame time.
11.Now Nebuchad-nezzár King of Babél gaue charge concerning Ieremiáh vnto Nebuzar-adán yͤ chief ſteward, ſaying,
12.Take him, and loke wel to him, and do him no harme, but do vnto him euen as he ſhal ſay vnto thee.
13.So Nebuzar-adán the chief ſteward ſent and Nebuſhazbán, Rabſarís, & Neregál, Sharézer, Rab-mag, and all the King of Babels princes:
14.Euen thei ſent, and toke Ieremiáh out of the court of the priſon, and cõmitted him vnto Gedaliáh the ſonne of Ahikám the ſonne of Shaphán, that he ſhulde carie him home: ſo he dwelt among the people.
15.Now yͤ worde of the Lord came vnto Ieremiáh, while he was ſhut vp in yͤ court of the priſon, ſaying,
16.Go & ſpeake to Ebed-mélech the blacke More, ſaying, Thus ſaith the Lord of hoſtes the God of Iſraél, Beholde, I wil bring my wordes vpon this citie for euil, and not for good, and thei ſhalbe accompliſhed in that daie before thee.
17.But I wil deliuer thee in that daie, ſaith the Lord, and thou ſhalt not be giuen into the hand of the men whome thou feareſt.
18.For I wil ſurely deliuer thee, and thou ſhalt not fall by the ſworde, but thy life ſhalbe for a pray vnto thee, becauſe thou haſt put thy truſt in me, ſaith the Lord.

Thus God recompenſed his zeale and fauour, which he ſhewed to his Prophet in his troubles.
